I would not bait Ninja Stan; believe his first post under the new handle was another thread closure.

Well, he DID say on his blog that the main reason he's coming back as a volunteer mod is for the sense of righteous indignation. :P

He got tired of the system and its red tape. He told Bioware they could take his badge, but he was keeping the gun. Now's he's a vigilante on the edge.

That sucks. Made it sound like he didn't like the corporate atmosphere as much.

I've noticed a lot of Bioware "core" members have been leaving the past few years. Guys that have been with Bioware quite awhile. You can say one guy doesn't make a team but when you start losing a lot, you damage that team and core. Luckily, Bioware has plenty of talent.

Sucks to see ole Stan gone. I hope he enjoys his new life!

Dudes, I'm still here. Quit talking about me like I've just died or something! :P

And don't read too much into it. Turnover is a way of life in business, even in creative ones. People move on to other opportunities all the time, just as new people are hired all the time. I left because it was time to do so, and it was the best solution for all involved. There is no rancour, no hate, no rage. And they let me come back as a Moderator, which was my plan the whole time. I know there's a tendency to ascribe motivations and develop conspiracy theories, but I've been saying for 11 years that game development is a job like any other. And like any other job, you have people who stay for a long time and people who move on after a couple of years or a couple of projects, for various reasons.

I miss the people, I miss the company, I miss the projects, but ultimately, I don't miss the job, which I'd been doing for 11 years. Maybe I'll go back in a different capacity in a couple years, who knows? But thanks to everyone for the support.

Apologies if this is an inappropriate question but what was Stan's job at Bioware? What exactly did it involve?

I was a QA Analyst. My job involved analysis of story, quests, pacing, dialogue, character development, pacing, and cinematics. My job was also involved a lot of in-game bug testing. At the end of my tenure, I was also involved in training new hires.

I've been doing the same job for four and a half years and I hate it with every fiber of my being. But with two mouths to feed at home, you're stuck. I envy you, Mr Woo.

I can understand that, but sometimes you have to consider the happiness factor. Sure, with a job you hate you might be feeding the family, but at what cost to you, your sanity, your health? I'm fortunate(?) enough to be single with no children to worry about.

Work-life balance is an increasingly important factor, now that we have tablets and always-on internet and various ways for you to be "at work" even when you're not at work. Every person must make their own decisions based on their own priorities.

Woo can still give you the hammer for old times sake. Moderators can ban too.

Not that I can speak for Urk, but sometimes it can be a relieve to just say out loud what you're thinking. Getting it off your chest ya know. ;) Don't tell me you never shouted something out loud (something that bothered you), simply for the sake of gettting it out, getting it off your chest.

We all have a deep seated desire for something to hate or despise because it helps us rationalize ourselves as people, especially our mistakes, flaws, and so forth.

So the subconscious cognitive process is something along the lines of: " I am not that bad because EA is worse than me!"

Agreed, Mr. Woo, that tone is not helpful. But many can sympethize.  That being said,  I did notice one little lne in your blog that stood out at me:

"And now that I'm no longer employed by EA, I can explore these creative ideas more freely"

One might wonder if there are/were many others at EA who felt a bit "restricted" in their artistic endevours.

Looking at the state of things these days,,,,,,just sayin', ya know.

It's the truth. We all need more truth in our lives.

Glad to see you are not gone entirely, the place would fall apart without you.

Now now, let's not inundate Mr. Woo with our EA hate - I can't imagine that turning out well for anyone.

He's a hard as nails moderator with a heart of gold.
