If all my posts in the BioWare community were turned into an awful collection that wouldn't sell a dozen copies, I'd probably have an entire series of crap. All that writing over 9 or 10 years for only a little online infamy. Ah well, could be worse.

Over the last 11 years, i have become far more critical in dealing with media. I complain more, I am more strict about what I don't like to see, and I talk about media a lot. I am much more critical about the portrayal of computing and gaming in media, mostly TV and film, and I am far less tolerant of internet jerks. I still love media and games, though.

Are you serious right now?
You fight jerk-ery, with more jerk-ery (excuse the lame word manipulation). You're no saint. Whenever you deem something unacceptable, you pull the warning/ban/endofline card. And the community just blindly either accepts it or faces a ban.
I have no personal issue or vendetta, I'm just being honest. You say what you want, attack peoples intelligences, (I have the messages we shared), and claim this is BioWare's rules, yet you break those rules very passively.
And I'm not going to argue this, it'll be spam and pointless bickering. But this is just my take.
PS. most SPAM threads are made to enlighten the community usually venting an issue or bickering, sometimes the spam is made lightheartedly to make some people laugh and get along, usually joke or stupid threads just for fun. We don't want to break the servers or anything, we love BioWare, we want to help by making this place brighter and not a grim warzone like it has been for months now.

Judging by the number of PMs I get, no, the community does not blindly accept it. They do, however, understand why I do what I do once I provide my reasons for it (in addition to the reasons provided in any lock message, ban message, or what have you). Lots of people hold this conspiracy theory that we Moderators ban/lock/remove anything that disagrees with us. That has, time and again, proven to be NOT the case.Karimloo wrote...

You are absolutely free to disagree with a Moderator. It's when you start swearing, insulting, or otherwise violating the Site Rules. For example, no one is ever banned just for swearing. They can, however, be banned for swearing in lots of posts, or if the swearing reaches ridiculous levels of frequency and/or creativity, and/or if the swearing is directed at a fellow community member, developer., or Moderator.
There are myriad ways of lightening the tone of the forums without resorting to spam. The Off-Topic forum is full of light-hearted threads, most of which are not spam.PS. most SPAM threads are made to enlighten the community usually venting an issue or bickering, sometimes the spam is made lightheartedly to make some people laugh and get along, usually joke or stupid threads just for fun. Out of curiosity, why'd you decide to stay on board as a moderator instead of being a dirty pleb like the rest of us? It's not like you need to be a moderator to stay prominent in the community.

As an example, after one of the ME2 promo videos for characters released, I accidentally typed out the F word in exclamation, and was auto-given a 24 hour ban by the system.
I messaged Chris about it, and he immediately removed the suspension, though not before typing, "Gives LPPrince a smack across the head" in a playful tone.
Chris was cool as hell to do that, as he could've just said, "Nah, deal with it."

I, for one, commend Stan on his work in moderating. It's an utterly thankless task, and mostly just earns the ire of people who are unhappy because their post/thread got edited/deleted/closed. In the vast and overwhelming majority of cases I've seen, it's been justified. I imagine there might have been a few along the way that might have been harsh, but hey, moderators are humans too. They make mistakes. Just like forum posters.
Best of luck, Stan.

As a counter example-
Once I went into a thread and said that I was more attractive than The British Sniper Dude(Big Ben, prior to the name coming about) in the first ME3 teaser(as a joking response, since a lot of folks said he was an attractive character in the CGI trailer).
A British forumite came in thinking I meant all Brits are ugly and proceeded to absolutely rain fire on me and Americans in general.
Chris dealt with him accordingly, and proceeded to chew me out(PM) as well for making the one comment I made.
What I got from Chris then was a warning, a powerful warning of "next time you do anything, you're gone" or something of that nature/along those lines.
To this day I still feel that warning was WAY too strong and completely unwarranted. Sure, I could've been told to be a little careful with the way I word things as someone might misconstrue them, but I was made out to look like I really WAS trying to be racist, when I quite clearly was not.
I was hurt, taken aback, shocked honestly. I by no means tried to hurt anyone(clearly). I called the dude what everyone called him- The British Sniper guy. This was before he got the name "Big Ben" from the fandom.
Someone decided to read my post as racist, and then through a single message from a mod I felt like I was being double teamed. Hard enough to read the British poster's rage-filled response, but then I had to read a rage-filled personal message from a higher up.
Had Chris felt any stronger about it, I'd of probably been permanently banned right there and this post wouldn't exist.
Point being- it doesn't matter who you are, how long you've been here, or what you've done. There's no going easy on someone because of tenure or amount of games registered or anything like that.
If something's going to be said, its going to be said. No matter to whom.

If a mistake has occurred, and someone is banned accidentally, we have the ability to fix it. If it is brought to our attention. I have fielded many PMs regarding the bans I've put on community members, but only a few that I believe were honest mistakes in banning. For those folks, I ask the powers that be to lift the ban, but in those cases it's just a 24-hour ban and mosthave no trouble waiting it out if the forum administrators don't get to it in time.Naughty Bear wrote...

Being well known by the Moderators is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, yes, we tend to know your tone and your posting habits so we'll cut you a break if you slip up. But on the other hand, we know your tone and posting habits and are far less forgiving when you violate the rules. It is assumed you have been with us a while and know better, so are violating the rules deliberately.I'm not complimenting you but you are 'popular' around here. Don't think that we don't send warnings to "well known" community members when they violate the rules, the same way we would do for non "well known" people.

Recently? No. I have recieved no warnings this year. Only time i communicated with a mod was asking Chris to lock my thread.
What rules am i violating deliberately?
My last warning was on the 2011-06-05 which i honestely should of been banned instead for making a disturbing and violent comment.

The same way you become well known anywhere: be visible and helpful on the forums, don't be a jerkface to newbies, argue maturely with those who have a different opinion than you, and generally don't believe that anything you don't like or disagree with is a personal affront.Volus Warlord wrote...

Whether you subscribe to Wil Wheaton's "don't be a dick" motto or my "be excellent to each other" motto, either will serve you in good stead here in the forums and in life.
P.S. And yes, Naughty Bear, I meant the generic "you," as in "all y'all in the forums," not you specifically. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.
