And I can confirm that since my dealings with John Epler have earned me a beer from him.

I'm not complimenting you but you are 'popular' around here.

Thanks for the compliment!

Being well known by the Moderators is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, yes, we tend to know your tone and your posting habits so we'll cut you a break if you slip up. But on the other hand, we know your tone and posting habits and are far less forgiving when you violate the rules. It is assumed you have been with us a while and know better, so are violating the rules deliberately.

So then the question is..

How came we become well known without being well known?

The same way you become well known anywhere: be visible and helpful on the forums, don't be a jerkface to newbies, argue maturely with those who have a different opinion than you, and generally don't believe that anything you don't like or disagree with is a personal affront.

Whether you subscribe to Wil Wheaton's "don't be a dick" motto or my "be excellent to each other" motto, either will serve you in good stead here in the forums and in life. :)

In life now? And I always thought the key to success was through sweet talking, deliberate emotional sabotage, proxy wars, discrete professional disparaging, nepotism, and prostitution of the mind.

I'm glad you're still with us Stan. But there's something I need to get off my chest.

EA JUST SUCKS! THEY ARE DESTROYING BIOWARE AND I JUST HATE THEM WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING!!!

And? This accomplishes what for you? What does this help to change?

First off, let me go ahead and completely agree with what Urk said. Second off Mr. Ninja Stan, don't you know holding things in is like the worst thing you could do? Better to let things out then hold them in and let them eat away at you.

If anxiety over EA and games is enough to create stress related illness, then perhaps one may need greater help than can be granted here; just a thought....

I'm not. You have become a mini Internet Celebrity. Just one of the videos I saw recently reminds me of the old YTMND fads.

I'm going to try and ask this in the best way possible. I'm sure it's a delicate subject but the question is begging to be asked.

Stanley Woo. I understand you did your job for a long time and got attached to it. I'm sure Bioware gave you the ability to live a comfortable life while you were with them. And I'm sure you have a great deal of respect for them for that.

But today, right now, Bioware has a very large, dire... image problem. And you Stanley Woo are one of the faces at the forefront of that image problem. There's no way you don't know that your reputation and mere presence on these forums continues to contribute to the problem.

So my question is since you obviously have a lot of love for Bioware don't you think it is in their best interests if you were to move on completely?

It was very nice of them to offer you a continued position moderating, but I just can't see how it's fair to them or good for them in any way whatsoever to have you still here. At the very least you could have changed your name and laid low and not been so obvious. To me it just seems rather selfish of you to not let go when you have to know that your staying here is hurting the company.

I thought latest Bioware games poor reception is the reason of their image problem. How is forum moderator even remotely responsible for that ? And "one of the faces at the forefront of that image problem"? I seriously have no idea what are you talking about.

I have this feeling you have been banned a few times or your thread got locked, but I didn't meant this thread to be the place to resolve your personal issues with Stanley so please, maybe use PMs for this purpose.

I'm just going to refrain from posting about SoWutNAO's post, as there is way too much to say in response to that and I don't want to be dragged into a long winded unnecessary conversation about it.

I will say this though- the question really wasn't begging to be asked. If anything, it was begging to be buried in the mind of whoever thought it up.

Is it a little different to have a dev leaving the team but actually staying on for the community. We should be pleased. At the same time it's like one of Blzzard Dev's leaving and staying on the team as a mod.

It's great they are a mod and they have grown attached ever so long.

I'm semi curious if this move was good for the rest of his life or if one day they will hire him back. Leading to the question what got the person removed in the first place. One can wonder I suppose.

Stan was not the first to go while the door behind him remained open for a return, and hopefully will not be the last. This may be a reason why Bioware continues as a leading Employer/ company with awards to show for it.

And while Stan, Evil Chris, John Epler, Rob Bartell, David Gaider, etc may be more visible to the community due to forum postings, both their image and that of Bioware appear to rather well, fine, Okey-Dokey, etc.

However, the image of the community itself has taken a major hit since these present Forums, expanded to the numbers seen today. At one time, the more notable critics were sometimes paradied and placed into games as comical relief; now they demand, whine, lament, spam, and arrogantly post and troll from the security of relative anonymity of the internet; making new accounts to cover for the old.

A shame; really, as I much prefer the older forums over the new. And they had Spell Check....

I couldn't imagine having a tougher job right now than being the mouth piece for BW. Folks on the BSN demand statements from BW and then when they oblige, their products and more-detestly, they personally are attacked. I agree Elhanan, it was much nicer on the old forums when everyone seemed happier.

Any "image problem" is generally in the minds of the doom-and-gloom haters on the forum who can't see beyond their own viewpoint. They don't like a BioWare game, therefore BioWare is failing. BioWare does something they don't agree with, therefore they don't listen to the fans. BioWare is moving in a direction people aren't accustomed to, therefore BioWare will fail. BioWare makes some unpopular decisions, it's "obvious" EA is controlling BioWare and is a money-grubbing soulless corporation.

So my question is since you obviously have a lot of love for Bioware don't you think it is in their best interests if you were to move on completely?

Why is it in their best interests if I move on completely? What harm am I causing by continuing to be a Moderator of a community I love?

I don't think changing my name and being anonymous is going to help anything. At the very least, people would wonder why I was posting under a false name and what do I have to hide. Selfishness has nothing to do with it, particularly since my remaining a Moderator was discussed with our Community team prior to my leaving the company. They were happy to have me, and I was happy to stay on and help out.

Again, I think that people who have a problem with me are taking a mere disagreement with my methods or tone and inflating it to vendetta levels, as seen by the number of racist caricatures of me on YouTube and previously on sites like Reddit and 4chan. I honestly doubt that that's the side of the argument you want to be on, and if it is, then we're going to have to agree to disagree.

I'm sorry, but while I appreciate you sharing your ideas, I'm not going to let other people dictate what I care about.

Stop picking on Stanley!

This does make one wonder how the Bioware/EA thing is working out. How do past/present bioware folk feel about this? They are EA now...

Nothing personal to anyone, but if EA is the Big Bad Wolf that causes one's heart to freeze in today's world of lies, deception, and corruption, then I wager that some may have larger problems than gaming woes. They are being more like a little pig wearing blinders that forgets to shut and lock the door.

You make it sound as if everytime their is a new outrage, involes a pattern. I remind you of Dragon Age Orgins. I don't think I hear many complaints. Before DA2. I was vidily defending that bioware never made a fail game. Some times the game does have legit problems. Yes people do voice concerns loudly but not everyone complains for the sake of complaining.

I feel as if you are taking everyone who complained. Into this cycle, that no matter what fans will accept the game complain and move on. Untill DA2 I never knew fans of bioware to complain about the product. It had re-used map's very limited in depth companion etc.

Mass Effect did have a legit concern. Besides that the game was great. Just reminding not all fans think the fan and find thing's to complain about and we will repeat it. This is first time I known bioware ever to be hit with negative feedback concerning their games.

I do hope it's not a start of some sort of bizzare pattern.

The hatred shown on Metacritic, Amazon and here for DA2 and ME3 only helped solidify my own trust for Bioware, as well as my dislike for the so-called fans. While not all fall into this club, the voal raucus of this group taints honest criticism, much like zealots ruin things for other causes everywhere.

Personally, I would ban a lot more than those here; would really consider shutting down the Forums, too.

It'd probably be more accurate to say Amazon reviews and Metacritic are basically used as a form of protest tool now.

I still use Amazon for gathering info. There, sifting through tanked ratings with questionable reviews is fairly easy; takes a bit more time to read, but at least all voters are also purchasers.

OTOH, some other places are simply statistical lies wrapped as facts, adorned with bows of bias and prejudice. Pass.
