Enron was the most profitable company in America
RealTimeWorlds had multiple hit properties
Battlefield 2 was the default modern warfare FPS

Going with quantity over quality has never worked out for a video game. As soon as someone else does it better and cheaper, you're screwed. Bioware picked up a lot of new wallets, but those wallets wont stick around once COD:BO:2 comes out.

Also, you can't count PC sales, because they dont include digital downloads.

And folk on BSN does not = total ME/Bioware fanbase.

Is the ending of ME3 an issue? Yes. Is it the end of Bioware? No.

What's going on with all the revenge fantasies...?

The ending of Mass Effect 3 is a symptom, not a cause. Why are you stuck on this?

Its not the fall that kills you, its the impact with the ground.

No, but it will worsen their reputation somewhat. Unless they please many fans with the EC. Which I pray to god they do.

I do to but I honestly have no idea how they're going to pull it off.  I want the game to have that same great feeling for me like Mass Effect did initially but right now my confidence in BW is severely shaken and I wish that wasn't so.  Some of my all time favorite games come from BW but right now... we're at odds I guess you can say.

I just read the "extended cut" announcement. I have been a big fan of ME from the start, and I was almost banging on the game store door when I could pick up my pre ordered copy.

Now, I would have been very happy for more content and stuff, but I'm not relay excited anymore, they already screwed me over and I don't realy care anymore. I havent played the game after I beat it.

Will bioware die after this: No
Will they loose a bunch of customers: Yes

They can only go down from here unless a fresh face takes over.

If Bioware get's "released" from EA if they do go under, we just have to pray they don't get bought by the same people who made Duke Nukem Forever...

Then, all will truly be lost.

Bioware is part of EA. If they go under, so does Bioware.

Bioware is owned by EA. If EA goes under, they will try to sell off Bioware to cover their debts.

To be honest BioWare signed their own death warrant when they joined EA.
It's only a matter of time. The cycle is inevitable.

A deal with the devil so to speak.

[calculation] EA has 3.6 - 5 years in which declaranece of bankruptcy is likely if EA maintains its present course.

[optimistic suggestion] Bioware may be able to find a loop hole that would let them sever most if not all ties with
EA, maybe if we are to review the contract pherhap we the community might find something EA's lawyers have missed.

[advice] one must know when to admit mistakes.

To the OP, nope. They'd have to prove themselves as a bad investment for EA to dissolve them; and to do that they'd have to have poor showings for their next few games.

We may be able to look back and say that this ending stuff was the killing blow, but it wouldn't show for a while.

Ok...I have to ask why does EA have 3.6-5 years before it declares bankruptcy, when they are still generating income in the gaming market where other companies are not?

Their net income has been negative for the past few years.

Their net income was way down, but they made money. Their income dropped from $276 million to $76 million for the 2012 fiscal year, which is a huge drop, but they still made income, unlike, for example, Sony and Nintendo, which all suffered huge losses this year, and in the case of Nintendo, the first time they suffered a loss of making no income in 30 years.

That is the difference that people don't seem to catch. Again, a lot of that money was used for buying some studios like Popcap as an example, investing $80 million into next generation technology, paying the bills for the EA Partnership program, and tweaking Origin.

So income was negative, but only comparatively from previous numbers, unlike the aforementioned companies where Income was pretty much non-existant.

To be clear, I'm using "net income" in the accounting sense--total revenue minus total expenses. Did they "make income"? In the sense that they had revenue, absolutely. They didn't, however, make enough to cover their expenses; and that's a problem.

Fair enough.

This is a industry wide problem though as no one in the gaming industry is even making net revenue anymore, let alone income, except Square/Enix which went up 2.1% for some reason in revenue (with no word on income so it might be a case of what EA had with high revenue, low income). Fact that EA lost 200%+ and still had $75 million in income according to their 2013 fiscal report I found it an interesting factoid, as they are the only company that I know of right now to have that honestly that should be brought up still from a financial standpoint.

But I am no accountant, I just ask one for advice on these type of stories before I type them. So you probably know more about this stuff than me.
