I know that this ending is just the last in a long line of BioWare failures, from the likes of DA2 and the TORtanic, but is it possible that the failure of BioWare Edmontons biggest franchise has finally broken the company. Members of the old guard like Karpyshyn are leaving, and there are massive lay offs, including Stanley Woo.

The epilogue DLC could fix the ending, but will it do anything to help BioWare's downward trend both financially and quality wise?

No, the DLC will not fix the ending, nor will it help Bioware's downward trend. If anything it will seal it shut.

Unless the ending is actually fixed, Bioware is dead to me.

I hope so. The sooner they crash and burn the stronger the message will be to others. For the sake of long-term game development and innovation, the best thing for the fans of the gaming industry would be for Bioware to simply cease to exist, and to serve as a lesson for other developers. Bioware did some great things in the past, but the best thing for the future of gaming is a complete collapse of Bioware.

The death of a flag-bearer of the RPG market would be a sign against RPGs in general as an unpredictable and unreliable market. Gaming would 'improve' itself by moving away from ambitious RPG projects, not embracing the genre.

Bioware has apparently been dying for the better part of a decade. Someone should tell them that they're doing it wrong.

Jade Empire is a horrible RPG, and was the death-nell of the company.

That's a bit dramatic.

Overdramatic in fact. Next we'll be blaming the Ending for causing world hunger.

Clearly the charity money raised to fix the ending would have been used to buy food for starving children.

Making games that appeal to everyone is easy, and gets you a lot of cash for a short period of time. Making quality games that appeal to a subset of the population makes you less money short term, but it attracts quality fans that are willing to spend money long term.

Except that isn't true.  If anything it's exactly the opposite.

EA has gotten to this point through decades of repackaging the same games every year and selling them to mass markets to rubes who simply MUST have updated rosters.  They've been around (and have made a lot more money) than damn near anyone in the gaming industry.

Meanwhile, the "quality games" studios you speak of usually wind up being swallowed up by the EA's and Activisions of the world.

I don't think they can die so long as they're owned by EA. At least not in the same way that other development companies die out. Worst case scenario, EA abandons the company name and reorganizes the Devs under a new banner, in hopes of staving off the stink of death.

there last straw is DA3 if they screw up on it, it will kill the company, because they will lose the rep of "good RPG maker" and unless they go into the 3rd person shooter or FPS route I really dont see them living much longer after a DA3 screw up.

So IMO mess up on DA3 and count your ass goodbye.

Because honestly SwTor, is not going to stustan you.

Saying that you cannot change the ending because of artistic integrity, and that you will release a expansion pack that explains the ending, is telling your fans that they are not intelligent enough to understand your art.

Saying they were doing an expanded ending is not even remotely the same as saying they're doing a 'small words' version of the ending for dumb fans. It could just mean they're adding in things they couldn't properly cover in the original ending.

You might want to wait until it actually comes out and see whats in it before deciding if your intelligence is being insulted or not. Or you can let yourself be offended by things they didn't actually say. Your choice.

This. Sick and tired of all the baseless 'chip on their shoulders' 'Bioware is insulting us' pronouncements. The 'not intelligent enough to understand your art' phrase is so overused it's mind-boggling.

If any of those layoffs were stateside, it would have made the news 6 weeks prior to their occuring, because that's how much warning a large company has to give its employees under the law prior to a mass layoff (except in extenuating circumstances).

A noble conviction. I'm sure this has nothing to do with your hatred of Bioware. This is completely unlike the anti-gay groups using "what about the children" as a shield to mask their own homophobia.

"TORtanic." That made me chuckle.

DA2, TOR, ME3. Hugely hyped up, ended up being colossal failures. Now, unlike the first two, ME3 was actually a good game, but failed miserably when it came to properly closing out the trilogy and giving gamers what they were promised about the story. The last three BW games were pretty much the nails in the coffin, and I guess DA3 will put the coffin in the ground.

Still, I guess there's still hope with the EC. But this is kinda like watching a basketball game with your team down 20+ going into the 4th. I guess we could see a turnaround here. But no way in hell will I be looking forward to its release as much I did ME3's.

The cracks started to show in the final DA:O DLC. I've realized now that the quality has steadily been going downhill since. That would be the real reason for any decline.

What's wrong with witch hunt? I didn't get the 'this is on the hate list' memo for that one.

No, but plenty of concerned eyes will be pointed at Dragon Age 3. I have faith that they'll learn from missteps and misjudgment, though.

I will never be able to forgive them for ruining the mass effect series with me3, that is just how I feel and will play judgement on anything bioware releases in the future.

As for the thing that kills the company it is very possible, but they have some saving throws, dragon age 3 being one of them

Mhe... if BW does not want to continue the franchise of ME, they could and SHOULD come up with a new Sci-Fi universe, even better than ME.

Colossal failures? On what planet. OK, jury still out on SWTOR, but even DA2 made a decent profit, and ME3 is the biggest selling Bioware game ever.

Someone also mentioned Valve and CDProjekt Red don't p*ss off their fans. Erm, the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott campaign and the outcry over CDPR's bullyboy letter sending campaign accusing innocent folk of downloading their games?

I seem to remember a horde of angry fans over those two issues. Then it blew over. So will this.

Seems some people actively want Bioware to fail, so they keep talking it down, some kind of wish fulfillment complex. Who needs 'fans' like that?

Don't even try to understand those kind of people.  It is one thing to no longer like the game a certain dev makes.  Don't like their games then don't get them and move on with your life  But to actively wish for the failing of a company just because they don't cater to your exact whims, well that is sadistic.  People that want to see bioware fail are sadistic.
