This weekend op has "synergistic" objectives, ie the squad and community goals are completey linked. Before, all you need was an extraction or full extraction and then you could stop. Now, three promotions per person should make reaching the community goal a gimme even though there is till no incentive (victory pack still worthless).

I'm gonna say somethin' here.
And it's gonna BLOW PEOPLES MINDS.
Like, WIDE OPEN man.
You'll be looking around at your room and goin' 'Whoa, is that my mind all over the place?  It got really blown!'

And that thing is, 'Not everybody's a Gold mode vet with a surplus of credits and everything but ubersupermegaduperultrachocolatyfudgecoated rare weapons maxed out.
This Vic pack may be worthless to you, but that is not an indication of its actual worth to the majority of the playerbase.

Lolz, Phantom mobs with Banshees sprinkled in ought to be interesting. The squad goal is also why I like to keep several characters near level 20 at any given time. So, that looks like a gimme!

Also, it's nice to see them recognizing the mediocrity of the victory packs. But, I'll definitely have all rares maxed by then so I could still care less.

Yeah, me too.  I have 3 level 20 characters right now.  But I'm leaving Thursday night on vacation and won't be coming back until Monday, so I'll have no chance to promote any of them and get the easiest commendation pack ever.  It's not like I wanted a Valiant or a Hurricane anyway...

Awesome idea! :)

You're assuming that most people regularly play and complete wave 10 of gold, which isn't the case. Most of the player base plays/succeeds on bronze/silver, where the credit rewards are significantly less. Then there's the factor of time. Elite players can complete gold matches within a reasonable amount of time, say 20-30 minutes. Less skilled players, even if they manage to get deep into a gold match, may be looking at upwards of 35-40 minutes by the end of wave 11, which is a less favorable credit:time ratio and may discourage them from continuing to play gold matches. There are also people for whom playing gold is unpleasant and stressful and who are more interested in playing for enjoyment than credits. The pressure from other profit-minded players in gold lobbies to run the most efficient/widely approved of builds contributes to this. Furthermore, succeeding on gold is much easier with a regular/communicating team, which may be hard to organize if one does not frequent social sites like this one. Then there are more minor factors, like the vagaries of the RNG system and character cards, network latency which is particularly problematic on gold, and constant EA server disconnects for numerous individuals.

Sorry, wall of text. But basically, I don't think the elite/pro/competitive ME3 multiplayer gamers who are so numerous on the BSN should extrapolate from their own experience to presume how the rest of the player base, which is much larger, less organized, less dedicated and (usually) less skilled, plays.

This is why I asked how often he/she/it was playing and whether it was on gold difficulty.  I mainly replied because I didn't agree with (nor understand) the OP's suggestion that N7 rating has something to do with rare weapon unlocks.

Hell, I'd fail the operations on purpose at this point. I want to see Ravagers spawn Phantoms instead of Swarmers!

That's rewarding the community, not punishing. I will return to MP in order to play against Cerberus or Geth with banshees.

Sorry, it is not logical to conclude that "most people have all their rares maxed out". Assuming the RNG gods are with you and ony PSPs are unclocked, it would, at best, take some 7,000,000 credits to do that (or you could be very rich). With a farming approach and assuming you promote, I struggle to see how all rares would be maxed below an N7 of 500 and if other packs are unlocked, or character cards unclocked, it could be N7 1,000 or more before all are unclocked.

I would estimate only 5% of players, at best, have all their rares maxed. Just look at the leaderboard - many posters here will be right up the top.

I can understand this misunderstanding because the BSN attracts more accomplished (a.k.a. Elite) gamers to post, so more players appear maxed and so the perception is that this is true of most players.

What's going on here is a bit like the 'False-Consensus Effect': http://en.wikipedia....onsensus_effect

Assuming you've been playing ME3 regularily since release day, all your rares should be unlocked.  Unless you're doing it wrong and not making enough credits to buy the packs.  I had all my rares maxed prior to Resurgence and then it only took me about a week to max all my Resurgence weapons.  And I don't play all day, everyday.  Now I'm playing about once a week, if that.  It won't take me long to max whatever new DLC weapons get released considering they'll be the only unlocks I need other than ultra rares.

Are you not playing very often?  Not playing gold (for max credit reward)?  Even with character cards screwing me fairly often, maxing my rares wasn't all that difficult.

EDIT: I should add, my N7 rating has been 360 for a while now and kinda has nothing to do with my unlocks (I don't understand the implication that N7 rating relates to rare weapon unlocks).

EDIT-EDIT: I should also add that I haven't spent any real money on packs.

Can't speak for adrest4, but I primarily play bronze, occasionally silver, and almost never gold.  I have been playing since release, but, well...

Manifest

To be fair, I get the point that Klokateer makes that if you don't suck and you play Gold, you can get the rares maxed more quickly. I play more for fun on Bronze and Silver, so I guess I'm 60% maxed on rares. So sure, the N7:Rare relationship is not a hard one.

I still think the people who have maxed rares are a tiny percentage of all the people who play ME3 MP, and most of the leaderboard is pretty low level, which makes the Rare Victory pack useful for most players, but I can see that a greater proportion of BSN regulars (I still don't think most of them) will be on max rare.

I wanted to balance the argument that I see regularly on this forum which is that most people have everything but ultra-rares maxed and most people can solo Gold. I don't buy that. That doesn't mean that some people don't have those things and some people can solo gold - respect to them.

EDIT: Oh - thanks DragoGoldenwing for saying what I meant to say more elegantly:

It's hard to say whether or not they're actually punishing us.  Certainly "more Banshees" makes it harder, but you don't know for a fact that they didn't make this event much easier because the last one missed the goal.

What would you rather have had:  "promote 3 characters for an N7 weapon and more banshees, with a 50k promote community goal" or "promote 7 characters for an N7 weapon, no more banshees, with a 500k promote community goal"?

I mean, to get this one just make sure your 3 least favorite classes are at level 20 and promote them Friday Night.  Easy.

I think I would rather consider it adding a dimension of realism; i.e., the operation was a bust so there are consequences.  The Reapers made more banshees.

By Saturday (or maybe even later Friday) every lobby is going to be full of low-level character classes as people recover from promoting. My plan is to start saving credits now so after promotion I can buy PSPs to (hopefully) return my classes to playable levels.

This.

This is definitely the right direction, it keeps "the disc in my tray"" as it were.

The MP feels like it has its own growing storyline, I like that.  It most certainly has its own consequences.

Drago your mind-blowing seriously made me lol.  Awesome!  Image IPB  I'm going to have to remember that one for future use.   And I agree with your statement.  I have hardly any rares maxed; I don't generally play gold, so I don't rake in the credits and I don't buy 3 kajillion PSP's a week.  Probably like a lot of folk.

BioWare - Outstanding!!  I can hardly wait!  Always psyched for the fortnightly Op challenge and I'm so looking forward to this one - random Banshee spawning?!  Wooo!!
