Dude[tte], if you think the endings in the "old days" were all sunshine and bunnies, you should read the Epic of Gilgamesh. Or Beowulf. Or the Iliad. Or Greek theatre. BTW I would love a Beowulf ending. Shepard, shaped and broken by war, seeks a last enemy to fight because peace? I don't know what to do with peace.

Once again, books, epics vs interactive media.

The fundamental difference being that drama means taking the passenger seat, whilst interactive media puts you at the helm. It's fine and dandy if you don't care, but don't expect everyone else to feel the same way. Many people only play games to shape their story, even if it's within the constraints developers put up.

And let's be perfectly frank: Mass Effects story isn't even worthy of licking the boots of the Illiad or the Gilgamesh epic. If someone's out to simply experience great drama, there are millions of better opportunities than any video game writer could come up on their best days.

I never said that everyone has to feel the same way as me. I was just pointing out that marrying the princess and growing old in a cotton candy castle has not really ever been a narrative standard. In fact, many great literary works have endings that are not even just "not happy", they are bleak and crushing and nihilistic. And yet they are beautiful.

I am also not saying that ME is comparable to the epic of Gilgamesh, lol :P. Despite that, I think there is something to be said for the level of emotional involvement you get in an interactive story, despite of the limitations in literary value. And while I understand that for many people giving their Shepard a chance at happiness is a priority, I have to say when my Grey Warden sacrificed herself to kill that Archdemon, it was pretty feckin amazing. Her riding off in the sunset with a bunch of friends was just so much less satisfying. So personally I wouldn't say it's a matter of written vs interactive medium. Although I do fear people are losing the taste for dramatic weight (that, or I am a sadistic monster towards my virtual minions).

Hale and Meer won't be returning. We're to assume that Shepard is dead.

Source?

if this for real then failure to the max :3

Not necessarily.

Since when it is a requirement in any work of fiction that the hero has to survive? Whether or not an ending is good or bad is not linked in any way to whether or not the hero survives it.

And since when was it a requirement for the hero to die? For some reason we were forced into it...

No new Shepard lines indicates no new SC dialogue, or no 'helpful' new SC dialogue. It indicates a lot of stuff actually, none of which give me any hope.

Meer and hale are confirmed last I checked and what I've heard is great however I liked the endings so...

Brace yourselves for some long waiting if what those voice actors say is true.

Why?

Because voice acting IS THE FIRST STEP when you make an animated movie or videogame. In fact, producers often record videos of the session where the voice actors read their lines, so animators and designers get an idea of how it should look a dialogue when is recorded.

Of course that is IF they're recording the voice for the EC, but there's something fishy here: Bioware said that the EC would be ready "by summer", which means that Bioware must have had the voices recorded and acted before the ending scandal. The question then is... if voice acting is the first step and they only have 3 months to do everything...wouldn't make sense that Bioware had the EC planned before the launch of ME3?

Just speculating.

Interesting speculation, but you're making a few big assumptions-- first, that the EC will be as lengthy as other mission-oriented DLC, and, second, that we'll actually see the characters "on camera" speaking-- it could be that they're providing simple voiceover for cinematic scenes.  Either event would mean that production time would be less than a traditional DLC or full game commitment.

Also, to be fair, they said they'd be releasing it "this summer" not "by summer". They're obviously being purposefully vague; as they've stated many times on this forum, it is their policy not announce firm release dates for DLC until it has been tested.

True...first is the story board and then comes the voice acting. It's even easier for developers to precisely match actions and movements to recorded dialogs. I can't figure how can Bioware to it the other way around.

if it was just simple voice over why would it take up to 4 months to do, surely that could be done in a a couple of weeks?
