And 1000 players is nowhere near dead - games like Diablo will always have more players due to being more accessible, but not quite the same community, and that's probably the best thing about NWN (well, leaving aside its mod scene and diversity of servers, of course). Same with a ton of other games that are getting on in age -- Battlezone even has one of its developers still updating it occasionally! :3

only 1000players on whole world, thats really almost dead actually, even pokemon online has more players :/
ShaDoOoW, there's a error in your logic. The number is only the number of people who happen to be playing at a given time. It is only a fraction of the number of total people who play NWN multiplayer. The actual worldwide multiplayer base is much larger. There are ways to get closer to the real worldwide player population using statistics from similar games and other things but, really, is that even necessary?
Still, today (Saturday) NWN multiplayer alone peaked out at about 1,250 players online at the same time. Compare those numbers to the worldwide daily game totals listed on Steam, looking at the "Peak Today" column and being sure to click on "View all of the top 100 most-played games" so it shows the whole list. A peak of 1,250 simultaneous players would put NWN 1 at around 60th most popular game on Steam.
It might seem hard to believe if you use the Bioware boards here as any kind of example of how much play NWN 1 is still getting. And that's not counting single player games, LAN games or private worlds.

The companies just manage to make more and more ridiculus iterations of WoW...
Just wondering if the companies (and their customers) eventually will get bored of the WoW-concept and finally make/demand a proper fantasy MMORPG? ...more NWN-style so to speak....

And I compared it with the actual player count as well. At this moment there is 22000 players on diablo2 battle net only in Europe just now. And thats morning in europe and thats in the time of Diablo3 release, was five times more when I logged in last time. Game thats older than NWN.
On pokemon world online, there is constantly thousands player online as well. The player base is also much higher. Or for example there is 200k players from Czech Republic just now playing flash game "FarmeRama". Damn.

No wonder the 10+ year old game is still so popular. There still is no fantasy roleplaying game that can compete with it....

^ This nails it, at least it does for me.
NWN still stands as the pinnacle of CRPGs for me. Nothing like it has come again, that puts so much power in the hands of players, to be CCers, realize their dreams, ambitions, etc. Make CC, create your fantasy world, Mod, whatever. And all in one easy-to-use package.
Despite it's age, NWN stands as a shining beacon for all those who love having the freedom to put their imagination into play.
Would love to see this continued in a Pathfinder based CPRG!

Is there anything we can do about that? Drag attention and recruit new players? What I found out, at least in my country is that many childrens and teenagers starts playing those free MMORPGs, its free, its easy to install (mostly) and their friends plays that too. My ten years old brother is playing game called Metin2, his friends plays with him. I showed him my NWN PW and he was amazed however he returned to Metin2 after a while because his friends didn't knew how to get NWN running. These players have no knowledge of computers at all, thus they all have Vista or Win7 OS which is problematic with NWN, also they do not know where to buy it or more specifically how to buy it, neither their parents do even if parents was kind enough to buy it for their kids.
They would play it if they could but actually they can't. The new generation doesnt even know the games we grow up, they are growing up on free MMORPG shts.
Maybe I could mention that most PWs in middle/east europe never had connection to master server allowed to play peoples with cracked CDKEY. While as wrong as it seems, who likes the game will buy it. And others will at least try it and then leave or become part of the player base. Every pirate who doesnt bought the game is good in these days when playing less and less players. If there was an easy way how to download whole game in one package will all patches, with some basic overrides and with CEP, it could possibly increase the current player base. The accessability is very important and its somwthing that NWN lost when MS is down and Bioware doesn't support game at all.

That leaves the more...D&D interested crowd. Although that doesn't mean they are easier to deal with...some can be quite picky! *grins*
As with all things, that which is "shinier" ("Ooooooh, look! Shiny!") and "all the rage" will, of course, attract the mainstream, because the mainstream is made up of Sheeple and they are really only interested in maintaining the status quo. The medium in which they move is always changing.
Then one has the Guilds, of course. They provide their own type of cohesiveness and bonding.
NWN is old. Only those who love it remain.
That there are so many, is representative of how well done the actual game is.
That, and the plain fact that there is no other alternative!
