Hi

Just upgraded the origin client to the latest version (8.6). Now a strange issue occurs, the game itself doesn't launch but the process MassEffect3.exe is running. The game was running fine in the last client version. Anyone have the same issue?

:?

A manual game update fixes the problem.

Same problem after the new Origin update. I need to kill the ME3 process and re-launch the game.

  • Launch Origin
  • Right click on your ME3 game tile
  • Check for updates
That's how i did and worked for me.

Same problem. Tried "Check for updates" and 'Repair install", they did update something, but game window still won't appear even though the .exe file is running. Uses about 600KB of RAM.

Just restarted the origin in order to debug the issue but the problem continues. I don't know but i managed to correct the bug temporarily and now it's back :(

I did the manual update as Nelson said and I could launch the game from "update completed" pop-up/screen.

This happens on one of my computers also. What usually works for me is to kill the Masseffect3.exe process and Origin process in task manager. Then on the Origin desktop shortcut, right click and choose "run as administrator." Have that running, then do the same (run as administrator) with the Mass effect 3 desktop short cut.

Ok from what i've seen analysing this problem, everytime you need to play the game you must change any origin configuration option (auto game updates, manual update check, cloud storage,) in order to play properly. If you close the game and/or the origin client and try to launch the game after that, it will fail unless you change any origin config option again. It seems the origin config file must be rewritten everytime you need to play. That's my interpretation.

So in short, choose any origin config option before you launch the game, everytime. Tried many times and worked for me.

Nothing suggested here works for me. The problem seems to be that origin can't communicate with the game files at all. Not even the "Browse game installers" option in settings is working. All this thanks to the wonderful 8.6 patch. I've spent several hours today trying to fix this joke of a steam copy with no results

Same issue here today, resolved itself after system restart?... Also "checking for updates" downloaded 25MBs of something.

Same as many here. Did the origin update, game wouldn't launch. Did a manual check for updates, game would not launch. Did a repair and update, game would not launch. Killed ME3 and Origin via task manager, reopened origin, tried to launch game, game would not launch. Closed everything down again, tried to launch via ME3, it opened Origin, began game, but once again ME3 would not launch. An yes, the .exe is running in the background, just not doing anything.

This hasn't worked for me so far. Will keep trying various combinations of this until the sun rises.

I found a solution that works for me. First delete your internet browsing history (I'm not sure it is necessary), then change a game setting with MassEffect3config, for example Fullscreen->Windowed.
After that run the game shortcut as an administrator. It should work now.

This happened also to me following the Origin update yesterday. Like others, I killed the .exes in Task Manager but still couldn't get ME3 to launch from my Windows Taskbar shortcut. What worked for me, in the end, was launching the Origin client and then launching ME3 from within the 'My Games' screen. Will have to see whether things are back to normal tonight when I next play or whether the problem persists (and indeed whether what worked last night will work again).

Kind of annoying that a game you've paid good money for can't be played because of a problem with an update to an (unrelated) piece of software. <_<

Okay, tried every solution here, still .exe runs in background with about 600 KB Ram. Tried updating twice, downloaded 25MB first time and second one was about 10, no result. Installation repair didn't worked too. Launching Origin and ME3 as admin doesn't work too, Going to check this with changing settings though.

So this problem began with Origin update 8.6, ME3 didn't cause it, seems that problem lays somewhere in the interaction between Origin and ME3, probably in logging in. Four days and still no acceptable solution. Unexpected from the game I've bought for 50 bucks.

Several weeks ago Origin updated to 8.6 and I had this same problem. Some time after that it "updated" again to 8.5.2.
I thought THIS TIME 8.6 would have resolved the issue, but looks like the QA is very loose in EA.

Sometimes windows security will deny execution after an update due to thinking it has changed (and it won't tell you). Whatever version you have, you might try resetting your windows security setup.
