Just saying I've only seen these rejections on the tubes. I could never start something up with someone and then reject them just like that.

That's not true. In my 'canon' playthrough I romanced Ashley in ME1 and after she called me a traitor in ME2, I romanced Tali for good. Ashley seemed to be ok with it though
Edit: I did that with Miranda too actually. Am I a bad person?

I had determined that this current playthrough I would patch things up with Ashley, and turn down Miranda. First I got into a stupid argument with Ashley, then met up with Miranda and the look on Miranda's face just about destroyed me...so went back to a previous save, pissed off Ashley again and decided to stick with Miranda.

When I realized she thought we were going out I tried my best to let her down easy but apparently Shepard has to act like a douche and basically dumps her like a radioactive potato, causing her to hate the ground you stand on and to repeatedly tell you to **** off every time you try to talk to her.
Luckily, I had a save from before I "romanced" her...several hours back...that I reloaded that made it like it never happened.

Miranda's breakup scene is so hard to watch. I had one playthrough where I was going to romance ashley but after seeing Miranda's face I had to go back to her as usual.

When i first got ME1 (had already played ME2) I was trying to get through it without a LI so I could hook up with Tali in ME2 without cheating on someone. Apparently being nice to someone equals I am in love with them, since I had to shoot down both Ashley and Liara. Heck, that didn't even work, since Liara would not take no for a answer, and even after turning her down right before the love scene didn't work 
Even so, I still did feel rather bad about it.

She actually is the LI for my current playthrough. So far it's meh but I'm still in ME2 and I'm guessing the good stuff comes in during LofSB and ME3

Thats why I only talk to her right after her loyalty mission and never again. That's what I do to everyone of the opposite sex that I'm not romancing in ME2

I swore to be faithful to Liara on my next playthrough. But now that I'm at ME3, she's too cold to me. I hoped we'd be more tender and affectionate towards each other. I wanted some lovin or at least some kissing. Some kind of physical contact when we talk. Instead... nothing.
So now I'm starting over again and making sure I screw the Consort, Liara, Jack, Kelly, Liara again, and then Kaidan. Since there's no emotion in ME3 LI, it may as well be fun.
