New version 0.7 available now for download.
Changes Log:
v0.7
-Added a new game mode: Escort the Freighter.
-Added new ships.
-New HUD by Aerenko.
-Included the option to invert the Y axis.
-Menu and HUD text translation to English and Spanish.

v0.6
-Reaper legs stuttering fixed.
-The ship's movement is now set by default to half the maximum speed and you can go faster or slower when you hold the respective key but the speed will return to half the maximum speed when the key is released. This allow to follow enemies more easily.
-The reaper laser now have a laser sound instead of the reaper horn sound.
-Improved performance.
-Improved AI using fuzzy logic.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the Vehicle Editor is included in the v0.7.

New features for the next version:
-Gamepad control support.
-Added voice (Miranda and Legion):

I'm also working on the ship customization and adding more powers including tactical cloak and sabotage.

Any suggestions for other powers to be included? I'll also appreciate suggestions about the gameplay and how can I improve it.

Verdict: For a fan project, this is amazing. It's very close to being the space simulator alot of us wanted to see when we saw the clip showing the space battle between the Reapers and Sword Fleet. But, obviously, there are things that should be improved.

Suggestions:

The first person viewpoint should be from the cockpit, right in between the two wings, and just in front of the windshield.
Third person viewpoint should be slightly overhead to the rear of the fighter.
Sound effects could use some replacement. A higher pitched/shorter tone can be used for the fighters. Also, the actual lasers could probably have a little more thickness, be a little shorter, and have a white body with a blue or red glow. Those projectiles are white hot when they move though space It would be wise to take that into account.
More space models like the Alliance Dreadnought and Alliance Cruiser (see the Art of Mass Effect for differences), Turian fighters, Turian cruisers (I dont know what their dreadnought looks like), the Reaper Destroyer class, Reaper Sovereign class, and finally, Cerberus Cruisers/frigates would be a great addition.
Making a third faction is another idea. Alliance, Reapers, and Cerberus. Each faction fights each other. Also, another map for the Cerberus base could work.

I love you work, not doubt. Ive already downloaded it and want to play it very soon, but there are obviously things that can be improved as with any media.Good luck to you in the future!

I can't do a cockpit view because there is no cockpit in the models, I can only put the camera very close to it but in the exterior.


This are the new powers I'm working on:
  • Tactical Cloak: use an optical camouflage to avoid enemy attention for 10s. It will be disabled if you fire or use another power.
  • Sabotage: hack the friend/foe identification system of the enemy to made him attack your enemies for 5s.
  • Shockwave: overload your shields to create a shockwave that disable enemies in a 50m range for 5s. Your shields will be disabled.

Try disabling the shaders in options->graphics->shaders, can be an incompatibility with your graphics card. Can you tell me which graphics card are you using?

Edit: also try to reduce the number of ships.

It crashes when I try to use the middle scroll wheel and I'm unsure of how to use overload and stuff. Beyond that, I was impressed with how good of a job you did. Nice.

I checked what you said and I can reproduce the error so I'll look into it and fix it for the next version. I didn't notice this before because there is no function binded to the mouse wheel.
The powers are used by pressing the keys '1', '2' and '3' for thanix, overload and focus respectively, though you'll need a target in your sight or locked (by pressing 'f') to use the thanix or the overload. Theese are all the key bindings:
  • W: throttle.
  • S: brake.
  • D: roll left.
  • A: roll right.
  • Left arrow/mouse: turn left.
  • Right arrow/mouse: turn right.
  • Up arrow/mouse: turn up.
  • Down arrow/mouse: turn down.
  • Q: order allies to attack the enemy you have in sight if there is one or the enemy you have locked otherwise.
  • E: order allies to attack the enemy who have you locked.
  • F: lock enemy in sight if there is one or the nearest one otherwise.
  • C: change camera.
  • Space bar/left click: shoot.
  • 1: use power 1.
  • 2: use power 2.
  • 3: use power 3.

Ahhhh, OK. I'm left handed and I forget sometimes I need to rebind keys. No wonder I was having so much trouble 0 I was using IJKL. Thanks.

As for the middle mouse button, I do that even if there's no function almost as like a nervous tick.

I'll try to include a way to rebind keys in the next version so you can use ijkl instead of wasd, but unfortunately in the actual version the key bindings can't be changed.

I've been very busy lately (I got a job!!!!!) so I've been unable to work in the game too much.
I fixed some bugs:
-The use of the mouse wheel will no longer provoke a crash.
-Reduced the smooth camera stuttering.

New powers:
-Added new powers: sabotage and shockwave

And improved visual effects:
-Added smoke effects to weapons.
-Shots appearance improved.

Aaaand... NEW MAP!!!!

The gameplay is rendered in a tiny box in the left bottom corner while the main menu still takes up a large part of the screen. That's not supposed to happen, I assume?

Edit: Is this the shading issue you refer to? I have an AMD radeon HD 6870.

This is a new issue, never happened to me before. I'll do a few test and see if I can reproduce it, for what you said it is a viewport size update issue or maybe the post-processing shaders. Try disabling shaders in Options->Graphics->Shaders. Thanks for the info.

I've had two problems, the vehicle editor crashes as soon as I start it, and the game crashes if I have shaders enabled.

GPU: ATi Radeon HD5750
CPU: Dual Core AMD Phenom X2 3.4ghz
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

I'm working in getting the shaders to work with ATI and looking for some incompatibilities.But I don't have an ATI card so the only thing I can do right now is use some emulation tools to find the issues. I recently found some bugs and I'm trying to fix them.
