Finally I managed to finish the new version v0.8 of the game :). It includes a lot of improvements including the ship customization.
v0.8:
-The use of the mouse wheel will no longer provoke a crash.
-Added support for joystick and gamepad.
-Key binds can now be modified.
-New menu by Aerenko.
-Reduced the smooth camera jittering.
-Added new powers: sabotage, shockwave and cloak.
-Added smoke effects to weapons.
-Shots appearance improved.
-Fixed a bug in the audio engine that limits the maximum number of audio sources that can be loaded.
-Added new maps: Omega and two others.
-Fixed some problems with the shaders in ATI graphics cards.
-Added harbinger's quotes.
-Added vehicle customization: appearance and powers.
-Added more sound effects (shot impacts, shields down...)

You can watch these videos showing the v0.75 and v0.8 versions of the game and download it in the project page.

Wow, just saw this for the first time and this looks really impressive. Great work!
I am going to download and try it out as soon as I can and give some feedback but kudos for the work!

I don't know if you're even interested, but I just want to tell you that I'm always available to help you with voiced sound development and music samples.   :)  If I remember correctly, someone (Maybe even you) asked if they could use my music for their fan game... 
I'll even develop some stuff for you if you ask.  :)   And hopefully, you won't think my stuff is too rubbish. :?
I only have music on there, but I'd be happy to make dialogue (Almost like dialogue from BF3 or 'pilot chatter' if you'd like.)

Those songs are really good ;). Right now I didn't add any music to the game because I'm working in a way to let the user add his own music. It is not tested yet but you can do that by adding songs in ogg format in the folder "data\\musica\\" and adding a text file named "playlist.txt" in there with the names of the song files you want to play in game (one song per line). For example, if you want to play "song01.ogg" and "song02.ogg" you'll have to add those songs to "data\\musica\\" and create the "playlist.txt" file and add the following lines:
song01.ogg
song02.ogg
As I said it hasn't been tested yet so it can be unstable. If I decide to add music to the game I'll consider using yours.

And for the dialogues, that will be great to have some dialogues for pilot chatting and commands.

I intended to add more ships from different species (turian, quarian, asari, geth) so it will be good to have audio for those races too.

I'm working with some frigates too, but I need to balance them a little. Actually I did a test with reaper destroyers and cerberus and turian frigates.
Also I have in mind some sort of strategy gameplay where you can pick a spot where reinforcement should appear or even give orders to your ally ships.
And for the voice acting, Iclonic is working in that but if you want to do some dialogues too that will be nice.

There aren't Turian fighters yet, but I will add them in future versions. Also they can be added using the Vehicle Editor, I will upload a tutorial of how to add your own ships to the game.

Good!! here are the events for dialogues in game:
    
Voice Set: it represent a set of dialogues for ship events. Each ship could have one. It contains the following keys:
  • targetDestroyed: it is fired when the target locked is destroyed.
  • takingFire: it is fired every time the ship is hit.
  • destroyed: it is fired when the ship is destroyed.
  • overload: it is fired when the power overload is used.
  • thanix: it is fired when the power thanix is used.
  • focus: it is fired when the power focus is used.
  • cloak: it is fired when the power cloak is used.
  • shockwave: it is fired when the power shockwave is used.
  • target: it is fired when a target is locked.
  • sabotage: it is fired when the power sabotage is used.
Comm Set: it represent a set of dialogues for game events. It contains the following keys:
  • start: it is fired when the game starts.
  • allyDown: it is fired when an ally ship is destroyed.
  • missionAccomplished: it is fired if the allies win.
  • missionFailed: it is fired if the enemies win.
  • incoming: it is fired when new enemy ships appear.
The crash could be because you have to install .net framework 3.5 and visual c++ redistributable.
Does the game shows in fullscreen or does it shows in a little window just like the menu?

The game menu itself comes up full screen and I can change ship count, map, etc, but when I click vehicle editor or combat, a little screen comes up in the bottom left corner with what I assume is the editor/gamescreen but it's all washed out.

I'm using an AMD Radeon 6970

Try disabling the shaders in options->graphics->shader. In the vehicle editor is the same issue but there, shaders cannot be disabled, sorry. I'm still trying to figure out what is the problem with some ati.

Good! Unfortunately without the shaders some features like changing the colors of the ship doesn't work :(, but at least is playable.

I've been very busy so I couldn't work too much in the game :crying:. I hope to be able to work a lot more this year because I have some interesting features in mind to add:
-Scene Editor: an editor that will allow you to modify or create new maps for the game.
Image IPB
-Random spawn points allowing the ships to start the game in different locations.
-Tactical screen to be able to give orders to your allies.
-Weapons and gear upgrades.

I added a tutorial of how to create a new ship for the game using the Vehicle Editor v0.91. This is a basic tutorial in which you will understand the basic to build your own ship. I will upload a more advanced tutorial in a few days.
