I feel like i'm at a loss (and don't take this that i'm complaining) but how can Bioware keep affording to give away at least 3 DLCs for free? got to earn money somehow and the initial sales figure won't last forever surely

 You can pay though. Bet on non-gold players getting frustrated with scraping together credits and getting nowt to splash the cash.

They make money on MP from selling packs. They know that they'll make more off the packs when free DLC drops than selling the actual DLC. It's a growing trend.

This.  the packs are where the dough is coming from.

I'm happy to say that all my rares are maxed, so I think I will get the characters fairly quickly

It would be even better if I could unlock the friggin Talon, Indra or Javelin.

I wouldn't call this free, you paid money the online pass.
