Of course it's "free"!. That's the whole point!
They earn money from people buying those reinforcements packs or whatever they're called. Yes, yes people are going to jump at me now and say "Well I don't, I use the in-game money I grinded!".
Good for you. However, many use real money. I've seen the posts, and given the random nature of the packs it's specifically designed for you to drain your in-game money and feel compelled to use real money.
So please do not thank them for their roundabout profit strategy.
Oh so very angry you are.

no ones forcing you to spend real money on those packs, you can't blame bioware if some people are weak-willed enough to spend their own cash on digital weapons and suchlike. Bioware could easily have charged peple a few quid for this, in fact many were expecting it, but they didn't. its completely free, doesn't that deserve some thanks??The Angry One wrote...

They could of easily made more money by charging for it though.

Yes, nobody's forcing them.
Let me put it this way. A casino does not force you to give them your money. But the only reason casinos exist is to part you from your money.
Does that mean we should thank casino owners for letting people enter for "free"?

How the hell is it free! The new characters and weapons are contained in the packs.
Sure, you can use in-game money for it, but you and I both know people will spend real money on it.
That is the reason the DLC is "free". That deserves no thanks.

In those days BioWare was BioWare, and not EA GoW Clone Multiplayer Branch #57

Paying up front and getting the characters would, in my view, be more honest than giving it out for free and randomly giving out content based on real money purchases.

You have to understand, this is of the same type of everything else that has happened with ME3: exploration of new modes of revenue generation.
Here, they engender good will by "giving free stuff" in the announcement... leaving only people that are actually paying attention to realize that this "free stuff" actually requires a whole lot of microtransactions.
In a way, it's an excellent way of looking at the whole game: a ay of testing the waters to see what you can convince people to pay for.

You're overreacting. You don't have to spend real money and grinding is easy (and fun) enough to not be an issue. Take a chill pill.

That's actually a great analogy: look at the big "event" casinos in Las Vegas, like the Bellagio, which has a lot of "free" entertainment, from a fountain show to public art exibits... heck, to an extremely reduced price buffet!
They don't do this stuff because they it's a public service, they do it because once you get people in the door, you get them to see the gaming tables... (it's no accident that you have to walk through the machines to get to the vast amount of the attactions.
Whether it's scantily clad girls, free shows, art, music... people forget that sometimes giving something away is the best way to get people to spend money.
