It sure isn't out of the goodness of their collective heart. In other words trying to earn back consumer goodwill.
Edit: And because of what those two above me said. ^^

Anything that keeps us logged in and tuned into the ME franchise in these early months makes good sense. The longer from the launch window we get the less people will be playing. After the EC you'll probably see DLC that costs $$.

1. They dun goofed with the ending of the game, and are trying to make up for all the hate
2. $Microtransaction$ > paid dlc
Who the hell but a few players would put down some money for multiplayer dlc? They would dish out for items tho.

Releasing paid multiplayer DLC fragments your community. As it is right now, they'll make money from people who want the weapons and classes right this minute. Everyone else will have to risk the RNG. But honestly it's not THAT much of a grind, so it works.

And trying to buy a little goodwill when their handling of the reaction to the ending alienated their core customers.

Microtransactions= big $$ unlocking chars and weapons take time so impatient players spend more money trying to unlock than they would on a regular priced dlc map pack.
+1 ... No other comments or else It might be impossible to remain civil toward BWare and MP players ...

Everybody risks the RNG. Even the ones spending real money. People don't get to choose what weapons you get in those packages. Which I think is insane. If you pay real money, you should be able to choose.
And I think it is a endless grind. As soon as you are finished with one weapon, so you won't get more of that garbage, you start getting more useless character chars. That means that the absurdly low chances of getting the ones you want, are still absurdly low no matter what....

It's not really "free" Sure to download it, it will be free but you are oging to have to farm hours and hours of gameplay to just have a chance of even getting the new content. Bioware relies on people paying for the packs with real money, something people are sadly buying. That's why both MP packs have been free.
I thank these people. As long as they keep spending money on packs, EA will continue dishing out free stuff. It works for me

A) It will keep people interested in Mass Effect 3, and it ties into the story somewhat.
The Extended Cut is free and even happening because:
A) The fan uproar.
The rest of this post is my opinion / theory / idea or whatever...
They are siphoning the DLC out little by little, because it's all part of their 'master plan' which ends with a secret final battle DLC. Also, what's up with you people who think it's so bad to have micro-transactions? (Mainly you, The Angry One). I think it's great that the DLC is free. And it is FREE. No one is forcing you to spend real money, that is your choice. And it's not gambling, you always get something out of the packs. And playing the game, to aquire in-game credits to spend on packs, it's still free! It's fake money that is aquired by having fun! Would you rather the DLC be $10 or $15? I'm guessing you wouldn't care, The Angry One, since you don't even play MP apparently, and you shouldn't care.
The End

Ditto. More the fool them but I'm happy with it. I don't understand anyone spending a penny of real money on packs. Getting the credits from playing the game means that not only is the gameplay fun but it gives me a goal from it. What's the point in dodging that?known_hero wrote...

Aye. I appreciate people (including me) feel like they got burned, but free DLC is made available and people act all cynical about it.
Personally, I just use in-game currency. I find the MP very enjoyable in small doses, and now I have more of an incentive to do so. Can't we all just get along and kill some goddamn Reapers?

The fact that you may not be one of them doesn't change that THIS IS WHY IT EXISTS.
It. Is. Not. Free. If you wish to continue praising BioWare for false platitudes, go ahead. I will however openly mock you for it.
