All STR is a viable build. I don't understand you, and I don't know if you understand yourself sometimes. You say it isn't smart, then you say it is safe, then you say it isn't role playing, and finally you say it is meta-gaming. So... what is it? If people want to spend a few points in DEX and/or CON early on, fine. In the end those points would be better off spent on more STR. I'd go that way. I am a "role player" by the way.

Of course all Strength build give more damage in the end, but that is in the end. before that what happens? Got fireballed? Chunking health pots like crazy? Searching for healers early?

What i mean by role-play is not playing as according to the guide line. The guide told you to "go to Circle Tower first for Attribute bonus and get Wayne as healer" or " go to Redcliff first" and such thing. meaning playing in order that guide makers make.

Why not you go to Orzamar at level 8? Do your all Strength build can survive the assassins at the gate? How about Denerim Back Alley and Abandoned Ruin with Blood Mages, do your all Strength build survive them at level 8 or 9?

Curious to know how you feel about players who make SnS Warriors with just enough STR to wear the best armor and place the rest of the points into DEX so they basically become invulnerable to melee damage? Oh and they use a Dagger to boot. I've never played it, but it is a viable build.

I against that too, similar reason i stated many times above, the enemy not only attacking with melee, all Dexterity tank is rubbish. Your tank don't get hit by melee attackers, then booooom! fireball...zaaaap! chain lightning...or swaaaapppp! being slashed by Revenant...or suffocating Curse of Mortality.

Don't you understand what i am babbling about in the posts above?

Anyways, this is my last post on this thread. We can go circles forever. Good gaming everyone!

Well, it is your choice

Whether you get annihilated by spellcasters depends on more than just your constitution. If you have other party members to back you up, those spellcasters are easy to deal with. There's lots of gear that protects you from spells. There's healing. There's Force Field, although that's almost cheating. You could also stealth up to the caster with a rogue and stun them.

Sure, take constitution if you like it. There's nothing wrong with that. But don't pretend pure strength 2h warriors can't survive because it's just not true.

By the way, of all the characters I've played. my pure strength 2h warrior was the one who had the easiest time against revenants. I was actually genuinely surprised at how quickly I won the first time I played my 2h warrior.

IF you set up like this or like that

IF not? Then what?

If I am soloing, don't have potions, won't use tactics and didn't care to gear my character properly, I might as well give up :)

Well, okay, so did I. Once. I was playing Dwarf Noble, I figured that'd be his first destination. Of course, I did put something into Constitution first.

I do sometimes go there second, but never first. I always want the Fade bonuses as the first thing.

I put Cunning for all my warriors, because i don't like the idea of dumb, uneducated, unaware, insensitive, Elissa Cousland and Lady Aeducan :-)

I always have 15 Cunning at the very start of any of my warrior build

I want my Warden can detect any hidden agenda or lies from anyone she encounter...as a leader of a group she must be a smart one, not just robust character that only know how to whacking people with sword...

My main reason to go there first is Wynne. The game is a lot easier with Group Heal.

It does. But +21 attribute points isn't exactly a small deal. Besides, the tower and the fade are pretty easy compared to stuff like Orzammar.

Amen.

Besides, I just find Orzammar... boring, somehow. I don't know why, I just do.

The Fade is more boring than Orzamar....in fact, the Fade is the one and only place in the game that is ultra-boring....

Just pour attribute points into strength, specialize in Berserker and Champion, and get the two-handed talent tree filled up ASAP, that will be a great build.

I dunno. The Fade is home to the only shapechanging mechanic in the game that doesn't suck.

Otherwise, yes, it would probably bore me to death.

It is the landscape, the Fade feels "empty", mostly just stares at the walls, walls everywhere, open door here and there seeing walls, get into mouse hole seeing another walls....lols

and the music too...arrrgh the background music makes me dizzy and sleepy...

Skip the Fade:
dragonage.nexusmods.com/mods/816

I use this as I cannot stand the fade either. Works good!

Personally, I think Templar/Champion is the better build long term. If you don't take Berserker your only missing out on 8 damage that never scales which isn't much in the long run. Versus Templar which has nice survivability and lets you use the Knight Commander's armor.

I agree. Templar is amazing simply because of the spell reist gear you can wear. The knockdown is cool too, but I am a bit annoyed that it's based on willpower unlike for example War Cry (can't rate this highly enough - quick knowdown plus debuff that's cheap AND based on strength).

You take Berserker if you absolutely MUST max your damage. But the bonus is pitiful for 2h warriors because it's per swing. The last ability, Final Blow or whatever, is another one of those willpower abilities. To make it good, you must sacrifice overall damage and ability to hit.

Yes this is why I actually like the fade.

The deep roads however are just a tad too deep and samey. I think there are good parts there, just too much of the other stuff. Probably my least favorite part of the game overall.

Yup,playing two handed warrior is like playing mage and the spell are special attacks, because auto attack is suck (both two handed weapon warrior and mage have suck auto attack), so Willpower is like mage (it is just that mage have lyrium potions, warrior don't), no need to minimize will power. Do not shy to boost it.

Holy Smite count from Willpower, fit nicely if build Willpower based two handed weapon warrior.

That is why i mention "put all in strength" is rubbish. There is not only one way to build two handed weapon warrior. The game is not just about damage, damage and damage...if just want a lot of damage dealing, just play mage and kill everyone with Storm of Century.

I realize no one is posting in this thread any more, but...

Holy cow, I leave for two years, come back, and people are still posting garbage about taking anything other than strength for a 2h warrior? Or anything except dexterity (plus str to wear armor, of course) for a tank? Look, if you wear the right armor, you'll have 41 armor and take next to no damage from all but a few attackers. With a high dexterity build, you'll almost be unhittable for all but a few attackers (Ser Cauthrien and the smith in the deep roads).

Constitution gives minimal bonuses compared to what you get from gear and leveling. You don't need Willpower to make Holy Smite useful--its best use is a stun/knockdown that hits all enemies--not just mages. You can arguably put a few points in Willpower for a build with a lot of sustains, but otherwise it's just not worth it. As termokanden said (/wave) you use Deathblow for that.

The truth about this fragile 2h strength build is that players have done solo runs with it. I believe even no potion solo runs. A max strength build will one-shot many enemies with a sunder arms/armor. Builds with crappy stat investment (almost anything other than pure strength) won't do that. There is only one good reason to invest in anything other than strength for a 2h: RP. If you feel like you need to invest in certain stats to properly RP your character, go for it. Just don't come here and claim the build is as good as or better than pure strength.

Slanting to weapon style is important.

Dexterity for Duel Wielders
Strength for 2 hander
Dexterity for Sword and Board

Slant to class then slant to weapons are important to both class and weapons and to character.

soteria: I know. I just hope people try it out for themselves at some point. I did just that after my first character, and then I was convinced.

Pure Strength Build. Eventually you just steamroll over every thing. For instance, my friend is doing a playthrough on my desktop and he has acquired the nugcrusher as well as cailan's armor while smashing through everything in his way at level 8.

Pure Strength is the way to go.

Also, you need haste (double haste preferably), so have morrigan invest in that line as soon as she gets heal.

Haste is a must for 2h warriors, definitely!

However, it's most important early on when you don't have many special attacks. Later on you have so many of them that you can function quite well without Haste and can actually put them on rotation.
