I hope I have the correct forum for this question.   For a mage is there a viable weapon option besides a staff, without taking the arcane warrior? 

I liked the animation for casting without a staff when you first start a mage origin in the fade.  I was hoping for a rod, book or even a wand just for variaty.   Having to use a 2 handed stick seems a bit cumbersome to me.

Nope, sorry. Mages use sticks and nothing else. There is nothing specificly preventing you from using something else, but it's not remotely as viable as the sticks.

Oh well. Thank you for the fast reply. I'll cross my fingers and maybe pray a little for DLC. Hopefully some kind of weapon for a mage that won't make them look like little kids playing in the back yard.

Magic staffs are cool. It's just too bad they are carried on the backs.... looks rather silly.
