Having seen certain Japanese animation/art really not looking forward to this DLC shall they choose to follow this particular angle...

Well, the brood mother had the most explicit eh... girlparts in the game, I dread what they'd make out of the loving embrace of a brood mother and father.

Oh great, now I have a mental picture, I've stayed too long.

I don't think it's a question of can it be done so much as should it. IMHO, no, it shouldn't. The "ZOMGWTFBBQ I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD" plot device is horribly overused.

This.

They'd have to go to pretty strenuous lengths to explain how Duncan survived an axe chop to the head and how he made it off the battlefield even though the front lines were overwhelmed.

The king is dead.  Duncan is wounded and exhausted--and weaponless, having left them in the dead ogre.  He sees the beacon lit on the tower, but realizes that Loghain isn't there--the Grey Wardens have been betrayed.  The GWs are being decimated in front of his eyes.  That's a pretty tight spot to get out of.

Somebody upthread mentioned Wynne escaping, but she wasn't on the front lines as the king and GWs were.  There was time enough for combatants in the rear to realize that all was lost and to flee.  The game itself references people being at the battle and surviving on several occasions--one off the top of my head (aside from Wynne) is the knight in Denerim who recognizes you as a GW, who says he was there and blames you for the death of his friend.  So I don't think Wynne's survival proves anything with regard to Duncan.

Besides, I highly doubt that you'll find King Cailan's armor just sitting on the battlefield, waiting for you to come along and pick it up!  I wouldn't be surprised if the upcoming DLC was basically a hunt for the various pieces.

Morrigan said she saw Darkspawn dragging surivivors underground. The small possibility Duncan survived, perhaps sensing he is a Warden they spared his life and are currently using him for some dreaded purpose

So you're assuming that Duncan survived the axe blow?!  It was a big swinging blow, likely to either split his head down to his shoulders or decapitate him, depending on the angle!  How do you account for this?

Morrigan also said she saw darkspawn eating the corpses, so that explains why no body would be found.

Well, its a big assumption he survived of course. But yes, stemming from the fact Wardens can sense Darkspawn and vice versa. Perhaps Duncan made a last minute move and he survived, they sensed he was a Warden, did not finish him off then drug him underground. All theories

O_O, prehaps it's not the darkspawn who impregnant the broodmother (poor Duncan, that's far worse then what I thought would likely have happened to him)

Back onto the topic of Duncan, dead or alive.

He hits too many 5s, in my opinion. Age, Role, Personalities, "Virtues," and Occupation.

Trust me the idea of Broodmothers is not new in the annals of Japanese porn artistry.
Not by a longshot.

In an insect hive, such a duty would be performed by drones who's sole purpose is to fertilise the queen.
Perhaps that's what ghouls are for..

Unfortunately, I know, and it is a scathing, horrifying knowledge acquired at great personal sacrifice and price, people who see the soulless cold in my eyes usually silently damn the japanese for the conflagration that has stripped me of my innocence.

I think Duncan magically turned into a Griffin and flew away. Later on, we'll be able to meet a talking griffin with a cool looking black beard

The screen goes white, not black! White=good, black=bad, so it means that Duncan killed all of those darkspawn. Believe me, I am a professional at interpreting such cinematography, I've taken film lit!

Duncan then removed all of his & Cailin's armor, so he could treat the King's wounds and use his body heat to prevent hypothermia. Then they left for the Deep Roads (D-spawn going one way, Duncan the other) and came out together, somewhere secret & safe.

Get ready for DA: Return of the King!!!!

Yeah, but bang is wrong, we weren't making love, and we broke up nearly 12 years ago so the memory is sort of cold and informal... he was no Alistair, afterall. Image IPB

If it moved the story forward in a thought provoking manner than I would be all for it. If used just as a plot device to elicit sales, not so much. There are so many ways that this story could evolve based on the different choices/endings you make during the game that this does not seem outside the realm of possibility. It obviously would upset some and other would be quite pleased. It is amazing how a video game can garner such fervor. Myself included!!!
