Bottom line: We didnt see him die. Not really any way. this is bioware, dont you think they would trick us like this? It would be an awesome way to sell a DLC as well "A guy who YOU thought was dead, isnt"

Maybe hes coming back in Return To Ostagar

You saw Cailan crunched and smashed, so why didnt they show directly and explicetly the death of Dunan?

Actually I could totally see Duncan being alive, but so wounded, dejected, and maybe corrupted that he asks the Wardens to kill him (ala Tamlen style). Of course Alistair will be like "but we can get you healing, yadi ya yadi ya" then Duncan will simply say "Alistair, shut up." It would be so perfect.

This is actually a reason I hope he did not survive, as much as I am sad that he died.  The only thing I think that would keep him from seeking the PC and Alistair out if he survived would be that he was captured and unable to do so and what the darkspawn do...would be much, much worse than death.

Id like Duncan to be still alive, but I doubt he is.

First, it would be unrealistic. Even if he *had* survived the axe-blow we see, he would have been captured and eaten by the Darkspawn.

Second, Alistair says that Duncan knew he would die soon and planned to go to Orzammar after the battle. He would not even have tried to flee but fought and died like a warden.
