Aaaaand, oddly enough, I actually--maybe not suppot it, per se, but I can see ads in game if done properly. It adds a ton to the atmosphere, makes it that much more real if the products on the billboards are actually real products and not some fake-looking ad. Adds to the immersion, if you will.

This.

And also, I believe someone mentioned it earlier, (might've been you actually) but if there's enough add placement, wouldn't the game itself be cheaper? A drop in price would be wonderful.

If they do something like this, no money from me. Simple.

Considering how long I am entertained by a good game, they are not expensive at all. I don't want advertisements in my games because some people don't want to pay full price.

I have no problem with this. I just won't buy the games that have in place ads. I'll stick to old games or indie games. Will most people do that? That's the question.

So, you're asking a bunch of gamers if we'll just stop buying games?

No. I can't say most of us will do that.

In that case, you're helping shape the bright future of gaming. 30 second seconds of gameplay, 15 seconds of adverstisements. If you pay just 9.95 per month, you'll unlock the higher resolutions. Yay gaming!

Don't kid yourself. No one's gonna change anything. Same thing with how most people on this site seem to think that EA is going to be hurt if they stop buying their games. EA is NEVER going to be hurt.

This is one of those things that we're either going to have to accept, (if it's even true) or we're going to have to stop playing games.

Now as a gamer, I have no intention of not buying games. I also watch YouTube video despite the adds. Is there a difference? No, not really.

Back to my original point, if this is happening. It's happening. And no amount of threats to stop buying products is going to stop it, unless everyone follows. Everyone is not going to follow. That, I know.

I'd rather play my old games over and over again than pay money for that crap. Don't care if I'm not changing the world.

That said, your attitude that "it's happening anyway, might as well go along with it" is just helping them screw over gamers. Yeah so maybe we can't change it, but each of us still has the choice not to put up with it.

It's the same concept as the ME3 endings really. It's not changing, so you may as well accept it, and enjoy the game anyway.

It's not hard to twist someone's words and make them seem like a bad person.

Maybe all the big publishers will move to schemes like this eventually, and maybe they won't. But even if they do, I'm sure there will be still be independent efforts.

Anyway I'm not saying you're a bad person. I just couldn't agree less.

That's all fine and dandy. Feel free to play your old games. If you don't buy anything new, it doesn't effect me.

But if I see a game I want, I'm going to buy it, and I'm going to have fun playing it. Regardless of any schemes these publishers decide to go through with. I don't like the online pass nonsense that every publisher seems to be doing, but it's out of my power, so I'm going to play the game anyway.

No reason for me to stop doing what I love.

I think the concept would be perfectly fine, for free-to-play games. But unless it's a modern game setting, they shouldn't be integrated into the game itself, on billboards or such. That would be major immershunz-killing.

That scene did indeed come to mind when reading this thread.

Don't kid yourself. That would just be another revenue stream. Much like DLCs and 'Project 10 dollar'. Do you see game prices dropping just because they're getting more revenue from those things? Game prices won't drop even if they have ad placements in them.

I'd rather see real advertisements seen in-game on billboards like in Prototype 1. Saw a Gamestop advert once.

I don'twant adverts popping up like on Youtube, delaying me from watching the video or happening halfway through a game like tv shows have.

On what planet do you think EA is operating?  Apparently one with far different rules of commerce than ours.

YouTube is a free service.

You may be unwilling to not buy games, but you can't speak for everyone.

Of course it depends on the game.

More importantly while there are adds at the beginning the middle adds don't stop the video you are wathcing. Unless I've missed something.

i cannot fathom how sony doesnt think this wont backfire.. the community backlash (if this actually happens) would be so massive they'd be shooting themselves in the foot - people would just flock to microsoft, nintendo and pc and sony's console would be left in the dust.

Of course. It doesn't belong in Oblivion. But Alpha Protocol? Sure.

Off-topic, but I just finished playing that game again. My "kill everyone" playthrough. Excellent example of how choices can affect the story.

Anyway, for this post to be somewhat relevant, I don't think that having ads in that game would be a very good idea.

I'm inclined to believe your optimism because your post contained cats and I love cats. However, I do think things can get worse without making people flee.

Their security scandals didn't even scare people away.

They don't, really (the choices thing).

The ending can be one of half a dozen pretty much regardless of what heppens during the game, outside of the handler stuff of course.

And, not prominent ads. But, on the mags. Maybe on your computer, in your email account. Maybe they could actually name that motorcycle, ya know?  That type of stuff.
