This one we can cope with. As for ads in general, unless they're ads that are part of the world themselves (Captain Baseball Bat Boy, Nuka Cola, Perseus) then it's a no go.

If a game is set in a world that is based on modern-day reality and if the placement makes sense, then I could tolerate some in-game ads for real products.

But yeah I don't want to see promotions for Sprite in Ratchet & Clank.

The only time I've seen that done well was in Alan Wake. Even then, the use of "advertisement" is shaky at best. The main weapon in that game is a flashlight, that being the case, you're going to need batteries to run it. The batteries you collect in the game are energizer batteries, and outside of seeing the label on the battery itself there is no advertisement. So things like that are permissible I suppose, but commercials on tv's were you would see "Night Springs" in Alan Wake showing commercials for VEVO would be a big f*cking no from me.

I'm just going to skip the next gen altogether.

I hope the market will stop this, at least the whole no used games things. It seems like Microsoft, Sony etc. hasn't learned anything from Ubisoft's failure when they implemented an online requirement in Assasin's Creed 2. It didn't sell well apparantly...

As for the new consoles maybe and perhaps having an online always requirement, I repeat what I always say when this topic arises: there are places in this world where the internet connection still requires modems or where the internet connections are vey unstable. And these places exist even in Canada and the US...

As for the ads in game, didn't EA have similar plans? some years ago. It seems to we hvae had this discussion before. I have nothing againt ads in the game, say for Ford Motorcompany in a racing game or for Coca Cola in say Mass Effect or in Battlefield 3 as long as they are relevant for and to the game.
I think, however, we all (?) agree that in game adds which interrupts our games are a really, really bad idea...

It doesn't surprise however that bluray drives are becoming a requirement in order for us to play games; they can hold much more content and data than the dvd-discs...

lol, well, I bought a new computer last month that can outperform the playstation 4 and xbox 720 judging by their rumored specs, so i wasn't planning on buying them anyway.

Why would pc games be exclusively excluded from that. That, plus we are ALL going to see DRM on absolutely everything. For everything.

Remember when Microsoft wanted PC users to pay for Games of windows live? They got a short sharp F off. This would no doubt get the same reaction.

What if they offered optional free versions of games with ads?

When will they realize that shoving ads in my face isn't going to sell a product? I don't own a car. There's no point in getting a car insurance. I don't go to fast food joints. Putting up ads for KFC ain't gon cut it. PSN+ is completely out of the question for me. Stop asking.

Is product placement not good enough, anymore? Couldn't just have Max Payne popping the latest pain-killer from Merck, now we have to actually get in-game commercials?

This is why I haven't purchased a PS3 yet.

If this turns out to be something like VOID from Gamersgate I'm all for it. One minute add and unlimited access to a game for free now I can try King's Bounty.

Yeah if its optional and the ads are paying for the game so I don't have to thats a whole other story.  I don't have problem with ads on youtube because I don't have to pay for youtube.  They start interupting my DVD movies with ads then we have a problem

Acceptable. I'd rather read a book than play a free game with ads, but if someone else wants to do it, I won't complain.

However, showing ad breaks and such in paid games is unacceptable in my book.

How could it be acceptable to have to sit through advertisements from a product you purchased? However, this is kind of unavoidable when you think about it. When everything gets pirated, we have the option to fast forward through commercials, and we simply mute the sh*tty music VEVO makes you listen to before you see a music video, they have to find some other way to advertise. I just don't see how this is going to go over well, it's really odd to advertise on a purchased product.

Ah Captain Baseball Bat Boy. Remember that episode where he got turned into an old man? I used to watch that all the time as a kid.

Oh you mean this episode of Captain Baseball Bat Boy?[/quote]

This and the radio stations in GTA IV are the only ways "ads" would be ok in a game.

Agreed. I really don't want or need real world advertsements that'll most likely ruin the immersion I have with a game.

Oh yeah fictional ads made for the game are awesome... What Rockstar has done is make their worlds feel more alive.
Princess Robot Bubblegum and Republican Space Rangers were my favorites lol
