I know this is kind of a "Why couldn't I get x to do y" kind of question that probably won't get a response from the writers, but it has had me curious for a time now and whilst I know this is likely to bring up the whole 'pro/anti loghain' debate again. Just curious what other people think.

Basically, you get to the landsmeet and Riordan gives his alternative suggestion, considering you go and execute loghain no matter what, surely that still leaves the stuff that you were going to use for Loghain available for another person to do the Joining?

So why no option to either ask a party member or ask the landsmeet for volunteers (ponders Ser Cauthrien, Bann Teagan, that lady whose brother you saved, ).

What is your opinion on this?

On another note that I've just thought of, up until that point, Duncan made a big thing about the 'joining' being fairly secretive and yet Riordan shows up at the Landsmeet and gives it as an option and not only that Anora seems to have an idea of what happens during the ritual? Quote from Anora "The Joining itself is often fatal, is it not? If he survives you gain a general, if not, you have your revenge." So Riordan been giving out the Warden secrets to Anora? I know earlier on when you are at the War Council at Ostagar, Cailan makes a comment about congratulations are in order for you passing the joining, but he doesn't give any indication of him knowing it is tough.

If this is explained in the books, fair enough. Just seems a bit odd considering how at the start none of the people going into the ritual (ie. PC, Daveth or Ser Jory) know of the often fatal initiation.

According to Bioware poster, they had planned a joining for companions at Landsmeet, along with a blight corruption that would require it. However, it was cut.

Knowing that the Joining could be a fatal ritual is a secret sort of, but not really. People are bound to notice that Grey Warden candidates often don't return after the Joining ritual.

What really is kept secret is that fact that they drink tainted blood, if everyone knew about that the support of the Grey Wardens would fall dramatically.

Also Daveth and Ser Jory did kinda know, I remember talking about them and they were mentioning to me the rumors that the Joining is a dangerous ritual and some of them may not return alive.

And knowing it can be lethal does not mean knowing WHY it can be lethal...
