The only 2 achievments I need are both related to the insanity level. So for people that have done it, or are going to do it...I want to know:

1.) What is the best class to use? I'm good with Vanguard and Engineer, ok with  Infiltrator and Adept, not so good with Soldier and Sentinel.

2.) Should I take any particular squad members with me always? (I have Javik - have save games ready with both Ash and Kaidan alive)

3.) Should this be done as a new PT or import a character from ME2? Is it better/easier one way or the other?

My gut says go with Engineer with Armor Piercing as the bonus. You get overload, incenerate, plus can deploy
drones to help. The armor piercing does more damage no matter what you
shoot at, and you can blow through guardian's shields.

HOWEVER, I think the Infiltrator's cloak would be very valuble here - especially when trying to turn on the hammers on Tuchanka.

I don't care about storyline at this point, I've beaten ME3 about 5 times...all with different characters, classes, different people alive or dead...I'd probably skip the cutscenes anyways on this PT

THOUGHTS?

I found Adept with Pull/Throw (specced for double target and Biotic Explosions) really clear the map fast.

I took Energy Drain as my bonus power (due to phantoms 1-shotting shields and being immune to most thrown biotic powers).

After completing it on Hardcore using warp/singularity I started up Insanity and blitzed through the game just pull/throwing half the map dead in the first couple of seconds of each fight. Big stuff like Brutes and Banshees melted with Warp/Throw (both with biotic explosion spec).

I also took the armour mods that gave +60% biotic damage (although I don't think it works on Biotic Explosions iirc).

Squad Mates? I took Garrus because he hasn't left my side in all 3 games, other than that Liara is good for bubble and helping with some Biotic Explosions, or Vega for extra dps.

I'm confused. You said you beat the game with all of the classes but yet you are here asking which class should you tackle insanity with. I'm not trying to be rude but that is throwing me off.

You actually answered your own question: Vanguard or Engineer. These are the classes you said are your bread and butter.

ME3 NG+ insanity doesn't level scale(like in me2) so it's actually easier than starting off from scratch.

As far as squad mates, Liara is the most overpowered squad mate in the entire series. You can pair her up with anybody and would still wreck ish up. Personally, I only bring her for my biotic classes but that's just my preference. Really, Liara works insanely well with all classes.

You aren't being rude at all! I was just wondering if there were any tricks with other classes that would give me an advantage at a high difficulty level. I beat the game with every class except Soldier and Sentinel, I quit about half way through with each.

So what you are saying is starting from scratch is easier, even though with an import I would start at level 30 and be able to crank my powers up a bit???

No, importing is easier. If this was ME2 than importing would be harder because the game would scale the enemies up to your level(enemies do MORE damage). ME3 doesn't have level scaling so when you import, your level 30 shep is fighting the exact same enemies with the same damage output as if you were starting off from scratch.

This is a shame. Insanity looks like it should be harder on the surface (as I felt that ME3 was actually harder overall, with faster enemies, less health, etc) but my level 60 NG+ Adept would beg to differ as he tears apart massive groups of enemies with two button presses. Level scaling is a feature that really seems odd to have been removed.

In terms of "Best Insanity class" I would immediately say whichever class you like best. That's really all it comes down to for me. Each class has some seriously powerful moves if you can figure out how to use them properly, so using what you know and love will save you buttloads of trouble.

I just finished my first insanity run. It was NG+ and I chose Infiltrator as I had not used it in SP, yet. I use it almost exclusively in MP so I found that Insanity is incredibly easy with a Black Widow X. :)

I could see Adept also being extremely easy with Biotic Explosions going off all over the place. The only part I was challenged on was the end with the missile trucks and the Brutes/Banshees everywhere. Still got through, but it was challenging.

I agree that Liara is the best squaddie to have. I also find James is a pretty good damage dealing tank with a Claymore.

EDIT:  I am on PC so aiming and mapping hotkeys to my gaming mouse really help me own the tough parts.

Take the class you are most comfortable with. You can beat insanity with any of them.

As for scaling, it apparently scales with character level, so if your NG+ starts off at 30 you will get some scaling before the game is over. If you are already at 60 when you start NG+ then the game is mostly static, but you do get to level up your weapons to X as you find them.

edit: I played my Engineer with AP Ammo.  It is fine as a power that doesn't affect your cooldown.  If you want to play optimally there are others that may be "better," but I thought it was fine.  Engineer's core powers are very good though and don't really need much of a supplement.

Well I chose Vanguard. The biotic explosions help a lot. I went with a level 30, so I upgraded my Shockwave all the way. I do believe I will take Liara with me all the time. I started with an Energy Drain as a bonus power, but that will change to Reave....I'm on the Normandy now. I only died twice on Mars...not bad I guess.

I used an infiltrator and bought the black widow. I forget the names but I used mostly armor that buffed weapon damage. The last mission was a piece of cake with cloak and I usually used liara and a random sqaudmate depending on the enemies for that mission.

I was a soldier class in my playthrough....and my 3 powers i used mostly was flame bullets/armor piercing bullets (got from a team mate)/ and Adrenaline when needed be. Which does make it sound like a made it hard for myself....but i lvled my powers so it would benefit my teammates also...so when i activated flame ammo they also get flame ammo on their weapons...so it was especially effective taking out squads of cerberus and reapers pretty quickly.
Weapons of choice was a Vindicator X, Widow X and Carnifax X incase i somehow ran low on ammo...Weapon power recharge was no worry for me considering all i be using most the time was the ammo powers.

Completely agree. If you spec her for it, Liara has something like a 2 second recharge on Singularity. You can just spam that and throw and clear a map really fast.

I might have to start over with Adept, I'm getting mauled by Cerberus at Grissom

I did mine with a soldier, using an ME2 import.

DO NOT DO THIS. It was a goddamn pain in the arse. I managed it, but some parts where rediculously hard. I had no decent weapons and no offensive powers to speak off.

I'd recommend a Sentinel or Adept, using an NG+.

Atrium fight?

Grissom is one of the tougher missions in the entire game.  That it is unlocked relatively early and is on a "timer" doesn't help.  I don't think switching to Adept will make it easier, Vanguard is probably the strongest class in the game.

What is your level and what is your build?

Don't just charge everything, especially in the atrium if you don't have your core powers maxed.  I did it a "lame" way with my ARVanguard just to show how relatively easy it can be done:

I rethought it and said yeah, I don't want to start over. I was cleaning up some old junk save games that I was testing other classes...guess which one I deleted. FML.

@ OP

I'm doing another playthrough myself: "Clean" playthrough Insanity Vanguard (Renegade) Male-Shep - It's tough. I'd challenge anyone to do a "clean" playthrough on Insanity and come back and say it's E-Z

But if you're doing a NG+ (in order to get Lvl 60 and Insanity) Achievements, It's the easiest and quickest. For you'll have $$$ and be able to get your Spectre Weapons. Secondly, you're weapons will be at a higher level - so taking down enemies is more fun.

Anyway IMO Infiltrator or Vanguard is best option.

I wish insanity was like this in ME2 I still remember screaming at the screen for archangels recruitment mission and the collector ship......

Well, I restarted this morning considering I want those 2 achievements bad. I used adept this time, and boy am I ever glad. Liara's sigularity, my throw, rinse-repeat.

Here's a question - If I keep my power recharge at 200% by limiting what weapons I take with me, then equip Liara's outfit that gives a 25% recharge...does that mean my powers recharge at 225%? Or is it capped at 200%??

I know the feel. I had completed a perfect 100% awesome renegade insanity playhtrough of ME2 to prepare for ME3 and RIGHT after I beat it I decided to go and delete that one character I didn't use... And I deleted him. So I had to rush a half ass playthrough again after it.

I'm pleased to see other Engineer users! It's my favourite class by far, and rips through all enemies pretty efficiently if you keep your cool. I think it's a seriously underrated class (the least used if I'm not mistaken). I'm using it for my insanity playthrough right now, which, to be honest, doesn't feel any more difficult than hardcore (I used NG+ which could count as taking the easy way out!). On Tuchanka, I just used my squadmates as decoys and ran straight for the hammers because I think the brutes constantly re-spawn, so there's no need to kill 'em all. I'm not looking forward to London though. That fight with the brutes and banshees is just horribly difficult.

I use Adept along with Edi and Liara. But I would replace Liara with Garrus/Vega. But thats just my own PoV for Adepts.

I say whatever you think floats your boat, except soldiers. 'Cause soldiers literally get nothing special that makes them stand out. You do have nades, but you can easily get nades from squad things as well. Again, whatever floats your proverbial boat.
