I think I will be taking EDI with me along with Liara, she has overload for shields and incinerate to help with armor.

Is there suppose to be a counter as you complete missions? I thought I read that somewhere. Similar to other achievements. For example - I remember as I was working towards the Veteran achievement (kill 5000 enemies) every so often it would update my status...I have beaten 5 missions now, no counter....it's on Insanity for sure. Any ideas???

Ignore al of the other posts...

If you want to go with the easy route, go with the sentinel. I've done insanity runs with Adepts, Engineer, Infiltrator and Sentinel. And i can say to you that going with the sentinel is by far, and i mean by far the easiest choice in the game.

Fully spec tech armor for Cooldown and Damage protection, completely ignore lift grenades and if you want a good debuffer fully spec cryo explosion for damage while frozen and damage to armor.

Pick energy drain as your bonus power you single handedly have biotic explosions and tech bursts at your disposal. In the Thessia mission i took javik and liara, and just destroyed that first banshee that appears in less than 12 seconds! Warp > Throw > javik dark channel > throw > liara warp > throw and rinse and repeat.  That's 3 bio explosions in about 5 or 6 seconds.

In geth missions you just need either tali or garrus for those TB and another biotic in case you want those BE.

And with all the cool down bonuses you can get from armor upgrades, tech armor and mastery upgrades you can carry some relatively heavier weapons and still get max cooldown for power spamming.

If you're worried about armored opponents cryo blasts just destroy them. A fully specced cryo blast for damage while chilled and damage to armor to chilled opponents is just ridiculous. Don't bother with squadmates with incinerate, the power is just awful in this game. Either way you won't need any these since BEs just destroy everything even if you don't bring javik or liara with you!

Take my word bro, the sentinel is by far the best class for insanity, only rivaled by the adept.

I have an adept right now my friend. I'm going to stick with it. Thanks for the advice though, I never played Sentinel much....might try one out after this though!

Adept, with either James and squad incendary ammo or Bonus power Warp ammo on the Shuriken.
Plus Singularity and Warp biotic combos and cluster grenades

...hell, who am I kidding, any class can do Insanity with ease on Mass Effect 3

You know that advice has to be legit.  Tells you to ignore everyone else, and it says "take my word bro" at the end.

Yes there is, but it only shows at a certain number of kills.  It's not like the gears of war achievo counters were you can access it whenever you want but it's there don't worry.

Right I got that...because it would update me from time to time on my kills. Maybe I didn't word it right, let me try again lol

As I complete missions on the insanity difficulty, every now and then should a counter pop up informing me of my progress towards the Unwaivering acheivement?

I have played all of them already.

It wasn't that I disagree with you, but the "ignore all the other posts" thing is a bit narcisistic.

You may be right, Sentinel with Defensive Matrix or Barrier is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Especially because Throw is broken in this game.

To be honest, it depends on what you feel most comfortable with. ME2 was my first taste of the series, and I wanted platinum for it. I got trashed trying to go for the Insanity trophy as an infiltrator. Switched to soldier and it was a breeze. With ME3 it really feels so much easier for some reason, and I've beaten all of my playthroughs on insanity. With an infiltrator. I've always taken Liara and Javik with me whenever possible so they can set off combos together while I pick off shielded enemies, keep them alive, etc. Battlefield awareness is key.

I'll second that. Took a soldier for my first ME3 walkthrough on Normal, it didn't gone well most of the time, not like ME and ME2. Took sentinel second time for Hardcore and things were ridiculously easy. Took Warp Ammo as bonus power(says it gives me 68% damage against armor and health, seems to be true), Valiant and Hurricane as weapons. It is a death machine - overloads stuff, warps and biotic-explodes stuff, shoots stuff... Squadmates just for funny comments on the move, Liara's Singularity is helpful against Phantoms though, plus her Warp allows to explode things faster.
Oh, and playing few games in multyplayer may be good idea. After few solo map clean-ups on gold, everything in singleplayer looks like a joke.

Did a Sentinel on Insanity. It was breeze. Took Kaiden and Liara, and Reave as my bonus. It was a biotic explosion-fest. (I took Reave myself, as it is insta-hit compared to warp)

I play as an Infiltrator with energy drain.

Squadmates differ, usually Garrus thou for removing shields quickly and conc. shot on phantoms. Its real easy, only die when I play to reckless.

You can see it in the main menu somewhere. I think under extras. It keeps track of your progress.

I used an Adept on my first run so I went with the Vanguard for insanity. Its tough but its really fun.IMO. I'm still at the Sur'kesh part but I haven't played in a couple days. The charge then nova combo from MP works pretty well. Plus, you have pull and can get slam so you can set off your own explosions.

I used the Infiltrator class for both ME2 and ME3. That tactical cloak saved my ass more times than I can remember.

Also, since I like sniper rifles more than using any other gun, the damage bonus you get from being cloak was also a huge help throughout an Insanity playthrough.

I took a sentinel with AP ammo and tank skills, never used powers. Used the other tanky/weapon damage characters as my companions (Garrus and Edi/Javik/Vega). Only difficult part in the game was the 10-second battle with three brutes on the Turian moon, that took a bit of ridiculous running (until I found a blackstar launcher nearby).

Didn't have to move out of the way of 'nades when shields were buffed up (I found they one-shot other classes) and could freely run between cover while shooting back without worry of losing shields. Turtling through ME3 Insanity as Sentinel was the easiest "most difficult game mode" playthrough I've ever done in my life.

I mainly used the Mantis (with ammo and damage upgrades,1-2 shot most enemies) and particle rifle (as back-up when I ran out of ammo or for big fights like Brutes, Atlas, Banshees, etc.) I didn't even have to use the pause feature to come up with a strategy... it was almost boring beyond the fact that I'd die to the occasional brute or not noticing having two grenades thrown at the same time.
