Since Darkspawn obviously cast magic (thorugh Emisaries), do they have to worry about dmonic possession? Can demons even posses them? If so, do the Darkspawn follow the Darkspawn Abomination (and is it also drawn by the Old Gods song), or try to kill it?

Unclear, I think. I'll note that powerful enough darkspawn tend to drop demonic ichor, so maybe that indicates a link between them. As to whether that makes them vulnerable to possession, immune to it, or some kind of demon-spawn themselves... canon isn't really clear.
Maybe demonic ichor isn't really demonic at all, which would imply that I'm going entirely in the wrong direction? The item description makes no sense: it implies it comes from the undead, which never happens ingame. The only thing it ever comes from is the spawn, often the Emissaries. Maybe the emissaries owe their magic to being possessed by a Fade creature in the first place?
Thanks, Thrawn. Now my head hurts. :{

Long time ago, the question came up: why are there genlock emissaries when dwarves can't be mages? And the answer came back from the writers that darkspawn magic is "fueled by the taint" instead of by the Fade. If there's no Fade connection, the risk of possession is probably low.

Even if they were at risk for demonic possession, I don't think darkspawn care about that sort of thing the way regular people do. People hate and fear demonic possession because it robs them of free will and causes wanton destruction (among other reasons) while darkspawn are largely mindless creatures bent on total descruction.

Thanks. Did they ever answer the Demonic Essence question?
