I've always wondered why everyone is so afraid of blood magic when it's actually inherently less dangerous than any other form of magic, since it isn't a draw for demons.
As far as I understand it, normally a mage draws on the fade (the land of super happy funtime demonic entities and spirits) for power. But with blood magic, a mage draws on the power of his (or if evil, someone he doesn't like) blood. Hence no risk of demonic posession. It can also be taught, rather than learned from a demon.
Aside from mind control and the ability to ignore Templar counter-magic, it doesn't seem inherently more dangerous or evil than say.. roasting someone alive with elemntal fire or scaring them to death with a horror spell. In fact, it seems a lot LESS dangerous and evil than other forms of magic.
Is the whole 'blood magic bad' thing just because the chantry is terrified of it, since it can't be effectively fought with anything except more blood magic, making templars useless? Seems to me that's why it's used by apostates, rather than for the evil laughs, as most of them are just trying to survive.
Query about Blood Magic.

Yeah, because there's nothing inherently scary about mind control. The only way to learn Blood Magic in Origins was from a demon, so I'm not sure where you get "doesn't come from a demon" at. There are very few exceptions to the Kill a Bloodmage, get a demon to fight next rule too.

Hardly scarier than being burned, shocked or frozen to death. I'm talking lore in general though, not just gameplay mechanics.
You could learn it just as easily from another mage or even a book. It's not demon specific, which is what makes it safer - as its general use doesn't attract demons like flies to a picnic.
Also I could be wrong, but I think the abundance of insane blood mages in Kirkwall had a lot more to do with the city itself then the mages. If you get the Enigma of Kirkwall stuff it'll explain a lot.

What character teaches blood magic? None of my companions could teach it. In either game in the franchise, and I never saw a book either. I am specifically talking gameplay and lore. What makes it scarier is that I can take control of your mind, sit on my chair, and watch you kill yourself. We also know, from gameplay, that not all rituals that can be powered by blood magic are evil, but they do require a life to be sacrificed to do them. Meanwhile, the exact same ritual can be performed with lyrium, and nobody has to die. This has happened in Thedas, recently in fact, and so is part of the lore.

And the concept that blood magic doesn't come from a demon because it draws power from blood isn't entirely accurate. Just because mages draw their power from the Fade doesn't inherently make it from a demon. That almost like saying drinking water from a pond means you draw that water from a fish. Which isn't an accurate statement. However, if you going swimming in said pond, you could get nibbled by a fish...
...bad analogies aside, from what we've seen, the majority of mages who resort to blood magic also wind up becoming abominations (if DA2 is any example), so it doesn't seem to be a deterence from suffering from demonic possession from the Fade.
