I've decided in my next runthrough I'm going to give my Vanguard stasis as a bonus power.  Trying to figure out the best way to distribute points and what evolutions to take.  Any help is appreciated.

The most important powers to consider are charge and nova. And it depends on how confident you are with your situational awareness. I personally went all damage since you can pause the action by opening the power wheel.

Charge: force and damage, power synergy, full shield recharge. You can take weapon synergy if you like to use shotguns point blank for very good damage. Your preference. I always take force and damage to increase the chances of staggering but radius let's you stagger more targets at once, but with lower chances to stagger mini- boss types. If you are using your charge to detonate biotic explosions then radius is a bit redundant.

Nova: force and damage, power recharge, piercing. Don't take the radius evolution since nova can only hit 3 targets max anyway. I prefer power recharge since the bonuses stack which lets you charge more often and carry heavier weapon, but half blast is much safer since you have barriers left over and more invincibility frames to work with. This evolution is up to you. Piercing vs sustain is about even. Sustain with power recharge gives the chance to have the best of both worlds (good recharge and shields left over) and procs a little more often than 25%. Most like myself opt for piercing since it deals good damage against protected enemies.

Assualt mastery: all are good really. I had a hard to time deciding between shotgun damage and power intensity. If you don't use shotguns the choice is obvious, but a claymore X or spike thrower X after a charge is pure joy.

Fitness: go for all shield upgrades. Your nova damage depends on it and it makes you more durable. However, the rank 6 melee synergy is worth looking at since it gives you a whooping 200% bonus on your charge. Most things that survive your charge and/nova will be downed with a heavy melee even without other melee bonuses so the melee damage bonus is not that helpful, then again shield recharge is rather pointless since you recharge via charge anyway.

Ammo powers: both can be used to set up fire/cryo bursts. BUT the detonating power needs to kill the target for it to happen. Fire bursts deal the most damage out of all combos, but cryo does freeze people. I usually take one to rank 4 for the squad bonus and the other to level 6.

Pull: I usually skip this or put it on the back burner. It can be used to set up combos, but squad powers like reave and dark channel are much better.

Shockwave: I skip this as well. Charge and nova do a good enough job dealing damage. But it is okay against guardians as it knocks there shields away.

Stasis/bonus powers: I don't really like stasis for vanguards but it does give them a long range crowd control and can set up biotic explosions. It's versatile. That being said, dark channel and reave are much better set up powers. Reave gives damage reduction and sets up multiple targets, while dark channel can jump to other targets if the previous target dies.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.  I'm also considering Carnage, Barrier, and Reave.  I don't have a save where Kaidan survived Virmire, so I'd have to start a new game, choose him as the survivor and play through until I've had both conversations to unlock them.  Not sure if that would be worth the trouble, though.

Reave is great for dealing with mini-bosses so I'd highly suggest it. Barrier IMO is pointless if you go the charge-nova-charge route since you should be getting your shields fully back very often. Carnage I don't know since I haven't done a weapon based vanguard but again it could be useful against mini-bosses.

I have a stasis bubble vanguard and it's great fun. As has been said, dark channel is WICKED for nearly endless biotic explosion set ups.

Well I think at this point it's down to either Carnage or Reave.

Reave is an ok ability, though I didn't really use it much except for when there were targets I didn't want to charge (i.e. turrets and banshees). I haven't tried carnage, but I suspect it would do well enough against those two as well. Barrier I actually found pretty useful for the rank 5 power damage bonus, even though I didn't need the damage reduction very often. Really, any of the above ought to work for you.

Some other advice:

Incendiary ammo will benefit from power damage bonuses (everything except armor pieces and Liara's intel terminal), and with a fast firing shotgun (e.g. raider, scimitar, disciple) the rank 6 explosive burst is quite powerful. For that reason, I chose to emphasize power damage over weapon damage at pretty much every opportunity.

I don't know if you have any team setups in mind, but Liara and Javik are both excellent for causing mass biotic explosions. Warp/stasis or pull/slam/dark channel to set up, charge/nova to detonate. Also, Javik's lift grenades can interrupt a banshee's sync kill (Kronner did a video showing this if you want to see it in action).

Reave is really nice ability to have it can set up and detonate if the situation is too dangerous for a charge/nova not to mention it can give you a nice DR bonus which can help your survivability really the only downside is its tied with kaidan. Bur if your sticking with stasis I would go.

stasis strength--bonus power--bubble
