I wish that most of the promo items were in the game. While I don't mind couple promo items, hell even Baldurs Gate 2 had them, though they were released in a patch later on. I feel that the amount of promo items in DA:O went a little overboard.
I'd much rather prefer having them drop from bosses with generally uninteresting loot tables, then have it in my backpack right when you start the game.
Now I have to buy t-shirts to get all the content

It's not a sales techniques for DLC though, the main selling item is the TSHIRT. The amulet is just a freebie, nothing worth getting upset over when you could probably make one yourself in the toolset.
I understand what you are saying
Spending more money (more than you would on an average piece of DLC) on another not-game-related thing to get game content.
[/list]But I don't really think that's the case here. They haven't created an item and then tried to come up with ways to make you pay more for it. I wouldn't say the amulet is something the DLC team spent hours working on?
The only *proper* addons are Wardens Keep, The Stone Prisoner and Return to Ostagar. You aren't missing out on anything like this, if you were then it would be a different story. Sorry, but I don't understand what the problem is [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png[/smilie] if it was a nifty piece of DLC that most people would like to get their hands on then yes I would agree with you.

It would be a sales technique though if the shirt came with a code for something like Return to Ostagar though lol

As mentioned by myself and others in various threads, you can download all the promo special items from E.A. directly for free if you are playing on the PC (not Warden's Peak and Stone Prisoner). I have all the items. I recieved two of them with my pre-order of the game, but other than that I grabbed them all from a link in the PC support forum.

scroll down until you see this
"..4.1 List of the DLC and their folder name as well as the link for a direct download."
Each item is listed with a hotlink to download.

Next Up: Don't do anything and get the ability to build an amulet in the toolset. What has the industry come to. Oh, wait.
Speaking of toolset...When game data (e.g., spell changes and other stats based 'stuff') gets patched do we need updated xls or database files or something for the toolset to be current? Or do we get the update automatically with each t-shirt?
Anyway, I see the specific content is available through alternate means. I'm hoping we're not moving towards further limiting DLC based upon which unrelated products you purchase at stores you would otherwise not purchase from.
Just curious. You have something against creative marketing? Isn't it the job of someone trying to earn money from you to try and make your buy something you would not normally buy?

I must have missed the part where this item was required to complete the game.
I don't see the problem. If you don't want the shirt, there's no reason to buy the shirt. If you do however actually want the shirt then the item you get is a nice bonus, but pretty worthless in the long run.

One thing that bothers me is how all the really good items especially early on are the DLC items. Helm of Honneath, Warden's armor, Starfang, Lucky Stone, and the Edge are all really OP compared to how early you can get them. This makes all the other items you can get in the game terribly unexciting, and the excitement of loot is one of the main things that you look forward to in the course of the campaign. Right now you get the DLC and realize your set for equipment barring 1-2 changes in the endgame when you have gold to splurge on the 100+ gold equipment.

Dark and others; You didn't miss anything about the item being "required to complete the game". Which, while entirely irrelevant to the topic, apparently needs to be addressed.
The amulet is one of several DLC items, available through special promotions or specific vendors. After some thought, each of my bullet point issues likely boil down to a single issue:
]The content (all of it, inc. pre-order bonus, specific vendor promos) isn't available to everyone to pick and choose from one source.
So, if someone (like myself) wanted it all, I believe I would have had to purchase 1 CE version, 4 (or 3?) regular game versions, a t-shirt (when I wrote the post I wasn't aware the amulet was available through this site if you "knew where to look") and whatever future channels are developed.
I expect a similar mess with upcoming EA/Bioware products. It seems less consumer-friendly to me, and removes choices from the customers. That's one reason I don't like it.
"Proof" of that would simply be to ask yourself what you would have to do/buy/obtain in order to acquire all the content or all the content that you would like to have. 'Convoluted', 'impractical', and 'inconvenient' are words that come to my mind when I run through that thought experiment.
I fully support those that don't want the DLC. I'm pretty sure if it were all available through this site and anyone could obtain it, few would turn it away (the "amulet sucks anyway" argument and the "you don't need it complete the game" argument). I won't call anyone a liar though. Frankly, I'm surprised it became an argument at all, where I felt like I had to justify wanting all the DLC.
Carry on.

As noted they are all here to d/l without needing to buy anything, so there shouldn't be any concern about not being able to get them. It is a choice now, if you want to get them--get them, if not--don't.

They are all here to d/l without needing to buy anything? Where? Please, show me. Because if what you're saying is true, then this topic is a non-issue. Let me know.

who cares about another dlc necklace. We got plenty of those already?
The EA store said it is out of shirts since launch. My nwn shirt is getting a bit worn out and I need a new gamer geek shirt. Then when I go to the mall all the other dao fans will give me the cool nod as they pass by and girls will turn to take a second look from behind!
