Keaton, easily.  He made excellent Bruce Wayne. Little socially awkward, somewhat estranged, bit of an outsider. Moments of being fish out of the water when not wearing his fetish costume. That's what I always wanted to see from on-screen Bruce Wayne!

I remember being really exited long time back, upon learning Bale got cast for Batman.  Based on American Psycho, I figured he'd make an Awesome Bruce Wayne. Got disappointed. Never saw anything by him as Bruce that would rise above routine performance. I find him a great actor but have hated the roles he picks for a long time. He isn't and shouldn't be summer action movie super star. It's terrible having to endure him as Batman or John Connor. He isn't bad, just very..non exiting to watch in roles like these. He fits very well in roles  made of ugly and sinister stuff. As a hero, he is always terribly boring to watch.

I'm not sure if it is possible to do the role of Batman well.. either you do it poorly(Clooney,Kilmer) or well enough for people to think you aren't ****ty in the role. (Keaton, Bale) But let us face it!, Batman isn't a character that could ever..steal a scene in a movie. I wager that's why every single batman movie since forever has made sure to cast a Bad Guy who can. As actor of Batman, when you get inside the leather fetish BDSM thing, you just don't have a scene where you could deliver a strong performance even if you had the talent for it I guess I'd prefer Bale over Keaton ever so slightly if he hadn't chosen to do the wacky throat..thing when speaking:p

Overall I have absolutely no clue why people are so exited over Nolans Batman movies. Heath Ledger's incredible performance is the only remotely notable thing either of the new Batman flicks has managed. I much prefer Burton's goth fairytale -take to it all. . Entire concept of having dude in leather costume fighting crime in world trying to be " realistic" as hard as Nolan's Gotham is ridiculous.

Maybe it has something to do with you thinking so hard that it's a leather fetish suit.

As a kid, I loved Gothic fantasies to bits. But Batman always was intended to be a crime themed book, not one on fantasy. So anything that focuses on that element is headed in the right direction, and Nolan's been the only one to do it right. The first Batman by Burton is an insult to the Joker in many places and took after the camp in the 60's and 70's to the point where the character no longer fit. Returns has it's own special charm, but it's still not as honest to the character as Begins or TDK was.

My favorite is Kevin Conroy, there isn't anybody that can beat him.

For the movies I really like Bale. I do hope that in The Dark Knight Rises his voice won't be as low as he was in The Dark Knight. I liked it beter in Batman Begins.

It's that 3 pack a day voice that Bale tries to pull off that's silly. Even Kevin Conroy has taken a swipe at him for that.

Speaking of which, I do own every animated Batman series available to date. And no arguments here... TAS was, and is incredible. Hell, it's where Harley was born.

I didn't add Adam West 'cause then it's all over. He pwns all. And some people need to get their heads out their puckers and come to an arrangement for 60's Batman to get the incredible box set it deserves.

Thank you for taking the time to type out nearly to the letter why I liked Keaton best.

Speaking of the 60's show, Yvonne Craig was the best Batgirl. Ever.

Keaton.

Not just because he's the best Batman & Bruce Wayne, in the best envisioned Batman movies, but primarily because he's the most interesting Batman.

Christopher Nolan always makes fantastic movies though, and Christian Bale is also 24 carat, so I have to say that those movies and Bale's Batman are also good.

Clooney and Kilmer are disasters. But I'd say that is entirely due to the director and writers the franchise was turned over to. (Keaton actually jumped ship, after talking to Joel Schumacher, discussing their ideas about Batman, and realizing that the next movies were gonna be crap he didn't want to be involved with).
It seems Schumacher took his cues from the corny TV series, but to me the Batman of Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, represents the "true" batman. He is a vigilante. He reallly is. Nothing else.

Happily, Nolan seem to have exactly the same regard for Schumacher's visions as I have, because he turned it all back again. I'm sure both Clooney and Kilmer would have done a good job, had they featured in Cristopher Nolan's Batman movies.

Batman not killing people is a new view by people if anything, made real popular today by stuff like TAS.

I take a contrary view on that. It's because he's accumulated a "Rogues Gallery" of villains, whom he captures and imprisons in Arkham. "The Cossack" there is just some mook; he is a dime a dozen, and there are a million of him. When Batman kills the Joker, however, they can no longer write Joker stories. And that will make them sad.

Though personally, I never did buy the idea that killing a homicidal madman makes you "as bad as him." If anything, putting him in a revolving door insane asylum makes you as responsible as he is for his crimes.

The concept of Bruce not killing anyone came from having Robin around, not TAS. Once they gave him a sidekick and camped him up, they removed all of his dark elements. He would stay that way until the late 70's.

Yeah the only reason Joker has not been killed off is because he is popular.=]

@android654 Yes I know the concept of Batman not killing did come from having Robin, and them trying to make the series more for kids. But the concept became much more popular to fans because of TAS, in my view anyway.

It was cool that they did it, that way the next game should be interesting.

Bale's Batman is etched into my memory more than anyone else's, but I find the portrayal to be so rediculous. All the forced whispering while trying to sound gruff.

I guess it's now iconic to me, but I don't know if that's necessarily good.

Kevin Conroy will always be the Batman/Bruce Wayne to me.

But I do enjoy Christian Bale's portrayal of Bruce Wayne in his "rich idiot" persona. That, and Michael Keaton is a great Batman.

My personal GOTY 2011 is constantly switching between Arkham City and Bastion. I can't decide between them.

But yeah, AC is amazing. So excited for the Harley Quinn DLC.

Post 70's live action films, who played your favorite version of Batman and/or Bruce Wayne? I say Michael Keaton as Batman, and Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. Keaton fit my notion as Batman almost exactly as I saw the character in the comics.

Batman -- http://social.biowar...53/polls/34365/

Bruce Wayne -- http://social.biowar...53/polls/34366/

Bale. Even thoughhis Batman voice is pretty funny, he's more like Kevin Conroy's Animated Batman and to me that's the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman because as Bruce he has a softer voice, but as Batman it's intimidating and harsh and Bale tries to do that by adding a gravely bass to his voice while he's in the Batsuit.Image IPB
