AtMoM has some reasonably good expo, and if I’m not mistaken, so does the Yellow King (or whatever it was called). And TCooS.

The King in Yellow, by Robert Chambers, is a good time. It's a bit...well, I can't say it's abstract in comparison to Lovecraft's stuff, because it isn't, but it's a bit all over the place. Really amazing though, and why Hastur and the King in Yellow are among my favourite fictional beings. Carcosa is also a really interesting locale...its state and shape changing depending on mood :P

But yeah, AtMoM is another solid reference. Lots and lots of material there. Were I to write about the initial excavation of the Prothean data on Mars, or the Ilos mission, I'd probably use that as reference. Really strong descriptive work there.

Thanks, guys! I'll see what I can do.

Further quick question, connected to my previous one: Would you write 'Leviathan' or 'The Leviathan'? Should I treat it as a title or a name?

The Leviathan, unless it calls itself Leviathan.

So I finally finished my first writing project, "Mass Effect: Going Dark". It's nearly two years in the making. Two years I've been slaving over this, working at it, seeing it grow, watching it take its first steps, and start eating solid food. For the first time ever, I selected the 'Complete' button. I feel proud, but sad to see that it's done.

I don't know what to do now! It's been my focus for so long, I'm afraid to start working on the iterations. It's mah baby!

.........Just thought I'd toss that out there. You know, because.

Ooooh, a finished story! Congrats!^_^
*looks at word count of story* :o Over 300,000! That's amazing! I...I will hopefully someday be able to find the time to read it. Perhaps when I visit my parents next, I'll have enough spare time to read it over a few days'.

Read the summary...normally I'm not big on OC-driven stories, but the summary in your profile intrigues me. I shall place it on my 'to read' list :)

That's a bit of a sticky part, you see. She introduces herself by saying she has many names, but the people of this cycle refer to her by the name 'Leviathan'.

Also, I'm feeling a little guilty about some of the lines in this segment. Seeing as this encounter was planned as a way of posing one possible Reaper motivation theory, it does kind of feel like a jab at Bioware, even though its not meant to be. The real crux of the problem is that I had an opportunity to use a line from the EC that just... works. Like, amazingly well. But in using it, I feel like it looks like I'm really poking fun at Bioware, maybe even coming off a little bit vicious, and I don't want to transmit that vibe.

I'm introducing a new character who won't be around for long, but needs to feel important and intriguing.

1. Have everyone high-five them and shout their name whenever they appear. Alternatively, they are wearing a crown.
2. Make sure they speak cryptically and mutter to themselves, trailing off at the end of sentences when you think they might...
3. LOTS OF PROCLAMATIONS AND EXCLAMATIONS
4. They must die in the middle of a sentence where they were revealing the truth. Alternatively, they leave with the words, "And maybe I will see you soon...", but they don't reappear. EVER (this is important).

I love #4. Reminds me of what happens in one of my favourite book series. Despite how annoying it is, I probably wouldn't have it any other way :P

Also, I can agree with #1. My friends know that when I'm feeling kinda bummed out, a good high-five will set me straight :) Crowns are pretty cool too, but you can get those at Burger King. They've kind of lost their value.

I recently figured out that I find it easiest to write shortly after I wake up and if I try to accomplish something and then come back to writing it gets more difficult.

So question of the day: Is there a time of day/period of time when you are most productive or when you feel you do your best writing?

I should also note that I'm not a morning person so I have no idea why writing comes easiest to me when I'm only half awake. Maybe it's a lack of inhibition? (But hey, I'm actually getting work done on the chapter that's been killing me for about a month now, so maybe i shouldn't worry about why it's working.)

Don't worry about why it's working if it's helping. Posted Image

To answer the question though, I do think that some people might write better at certain times of the day. Unfortunately I can't write on a schedule because my kids will always come first and kids are unpredictable, but I do find that I am at my best when I am well-rested and fully awake. Not immediately after waking up, but once I've had an hour or two to get my day started, I find I am at my best. Maybe that's why you're finding morning writing to work for you. Your mind has just had a long period of rest, so even if you aren't a morning person, your mind might be operating better because it's rested.

It might just be that when you first wake up there's not a million things on your mind that spring up from your day-to-day activities.  Makes it easier to focus.

I personally don't seem to have a set time when I'm productive.  Last night I got on a roll and wrote for a solid hour right before going to bed.  Normally I just write on the train heading to and from work, but because of the noise (even with earplugs) and visual distractions it's never quite as productive as I'd like it to be.

Same. My best time for writing is either right when I wake up or when it's 4 in the morning and I've been awake so long that I've past the sleepiness stage. Basically, anytime when my brain's not overcrowded with other thoughts from a million other sources.

Grats lill (and everyone ofc!) on the 100.  When you look at the age of this thread, it's quite astounding really.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, critiques and chat over the time.  <3

Usually right about the time when I need to go to bed for work in the morning.  CURSES!!!

Then I spend the day not concentrating on work at all, always thinking about how to write or develop my ideas, frustratingly unable to do any writing.  I need a lappy.  lol

Indeed! I’m glad there are so many others with problems and it’s not just me talking to myself

Opinions please! :)

Would it be unbelievable for post-ME (pre-ME2) Liara to be able to fly a personal shuttle of some kind? Dunno if this has been covered in Redemption or something, still need to get that. I've already broken some of it in my FF re: Aria. lol

I imagine if she's travelled around as an archaeologist, she probably would know how to use one.

I think she's hitching a ride at the start of that comic, but that was probably for long-distance travel? I haven't read it so someone else might know better there.

I had her chartering transports for pre-Normandy adventuring about, but in her obsessed information seeking mode, I thought it would be reasonable.

Edit: Hm, which makes me think, what's the minimum size/class of ship that can jump through relays?  Wikiiiii?

Oddly enough, it was covered in Redemption. *Spoilers* She knocks out some idiots and docks the ship at Omega herself. (source)

Presumably if she can dock a vessel, it wouldn't be too unbelieveable for her to pilot one.
