LOL. A lot of people are riding me about posting Chapter one! I'm starting to really worry that it's not gonna live up to expectations! Posted Image

But I am making headway. Rewriting is almost finished! Then just need to finish up the last scene in Chapter Five. Then do all the editing and formatting for Chapter 1 on FF.net... Should be interesting. Hopefully it's mostly self-explanatory and that MS Word documents translate fairly well.

I think if they were doing ME2 as a film, they'd proclude some of the characters, as well as most of the subplots, unless they can tie them together in some fashion (think ME1's Saren investigation on the Citadel, that brings together Garrus, Tali and Wrex). That's probably where you'd start to annoy people, really. ME2 was always more like a TV show (and better for it, I thought)

Reminds me actually, I wrote an article on ME2's writing. Though I'll only share it if people are interested.

Also, so much for my "Yeah, I got the plot sorted now. Cool."
How to convey these plot points is giving me a headache. :pinched:

I'd be interested in reading it.

And, There isn't a direct way to tie any of them together. They're all very different and are tied simply by the Illusive Man hiring them.

Proclude? I feel stupid but I can't find that on google.... *facepalm*

Haha. It's me who should feel stupid. Meant to type preclude, kind of like the opposite of include. Though maybe I should've gone for exclude. I am too tired.

Article is here. Be nice. :P

Yeah, tying them together somehow would be nigh on impossible. Instead you'd look at other ways of fleshing out the characters while following the main plot. Might be an interesting endeavour, actually, but not one for which I would spare the time.

EDIT: Ha. Reading the article now, I had forgotten I was using Firefly as a reference. Lately, I've seen a few people saying that Whedon would be great for a Mass Effect film. And it does make sense (but would never happen).

Illium has its shady parts.

Given a good script, I could probably think of a few directors. Whedon would be able to cover both though, obviously.

I love everything Joss Whedon has ever done... Second to him comes Sam Raimi, but I dont know if he could pull off Mass Effect

And I am really hoping I get there. Starting to doubt myself though, since now I have a bunch of girls here playing Dance Central in the next room, and it's a lot harder to concentrate on writing...

Chora's Den was the seedy bar of the Citadel back in Mass Effect 1 but didn't re-open after Sovrign's attack. Purgatory apparently is also a seedy bar, as Avina has no records of its existance and Aira seems to own the place.

I decided a bar on Tortuga would be fitting. Ill make up some of the last five years of history for it and then make a nice seedy bar on it.

Thanks for the help though

Anyone who has published on FF.net, I have a question:

I have uploaded my story to the document manager, and am using the edit function to go through it for a final edit. However, it seems to have removed the empty spaces between paragraphs and replaced them with a smaller gap. If I were to publish it like that, will all of the paragraphs be sandwiched together? Or do I need to go through it and add all the spaces between paragraphs back in?

If there's a gap between paragraphs, they're not likely to melt together. You can publish and then run another check. If it's not satisfactory, just re-edit it.

I liked your article, although I have never watched Firefly. I thought it was insightful and explained a lot of narrative details that were later incorporated into ME3, like showing the relationships between crew memebers (e.g. random convos between your squad mates that you can walk into). I'm a little tempted to go watch Firefly myself now.

The FF.net editor really hates blank lines. Every time I put them in and save it, it takes them out. Silly thing...

Edit: In the story info, there is a list of characters, but no option there for original characters. What would be the best thing to put there in the case of a story that is largely centered on original characters? Any?

Edit #2: I really suck at writing story summaries... I'm staring at a blank summary box..Posted Image

It might help to think of it as Character X wants something because of Reason X, but Antagonist Force Z is blocking him/her for Reason Z. Will Character X succeed?

Edit: Just remember to keep these in mind when you're writing it.

1) The basic plot situation
2) Name and identity of main viewpoint character
3) This character's story goal
4) Name of primary opposition character
5) What the villian wants and how he opposes main character

An example would be something like, "Joe Deuce, a down-on-his-luck 23 year-old man, is given a shot at a dream writing internship at his favourite newspaper company The Washington Times, but what happens to his chances when Bruce Sprig, his journalism rival from his university also vies for the same position?"

Or something better.

Happenstance draws the crew of an asari cargo vessel and a band of mercenaries into a fight for their lives during the Reaper siege of Terra Nova. This story explores events occurring at the start of the Reaper invasion, and centers largely around original characters, though some cameos are included.

---

That's the summary I was thinking of including. But should I change it to "centers largely around original characters and Zaeed" ?

The first sentence sounds good. I think the first example works better than the second. The mention of Zaeed may turn some people off.

Thinking of a summary for mine was frustratingly hard as well, and I don't even think what I ended up putting is any good.

But he does have a fairly large part in the story so far. I was going to select his name from the drop-down menu for characters too. Is that a bad idea?

There's the option "Others".

I don't see that option in the list. I see "Unknown 1" "Unknown 2" "Unknown 3" and "Any" but nothing that otherwise seems generic.

However, with that said, Chapter One of the story is up. And it looks like (most) of my formatting translated right.
