I...I can honestly see the appeal. It's kind of exciting! I'd imagine they'd have to be quite defensive getting into close combat range, considering the danger of getting their suit torn open by a martial weapon or whatnot.

That's part of what inspired me about the idea. Its just seems so... unusual for a Quarian, after what Kal'Reegar says about Quarians always preferring to fight from a distance, preferrably orbit.

And then I picked up on something... somwhere, not sure where, about Quarian dancers being good ones. That led to the Martial Arts-focused Wardancers, a sect of Quarians spread out across the Flotilla that believe in betterment of your surroundings through true understanding and mastery of your own body. They do not congregate due to the changing nature of the Fleet, so instead practice their ways alone, returning to their mentors once every few years for additional training and new techniques to master before their next meeting.

Jano, my Wardancer squadmate, is very fun to write, and can offer combat advice few others in the squad could.

Ok, so, Small Project that popped into my head in the last few weeks.

I want to write myself a small Jack and Miranda DLC script.

I already have a plot in mind but I'm having issues with formatting. I have no idea how to format things like the dialogue wheel and ete.

Any ideas?

That's what my new story started out as. I read "Blackwork" (linked to the chapter where he is featured- beware the lemons) and loved the OC Mason Black. I started writing a story about him when James was a kid, then it turned into James' story. It's quite a beast of a story already, getting some great reviews.

It's easier to call it a fanfic about a fanfic when it's really about an OC. Otherwise, you're just taking inspiration from a story about an established character, so it doesn't really qualify as a fanfic of a fanfic.

I read a story by fortyfoureasons and the way they left the story at the end I just want to continue it... they were original characters, a human child Garrus adapted and Liara and Shepard child. But they were his creations.

I've wanted to finish a bunch of incomplete stories like that, but it's wierd to ask, especially if the story has been dead for a while.

If you're writing it as a script, you could try:

NPC Dialog

Shep Paragon:
Shep Neutral:
Shep Renegade:

NPC Reaction Para
NPC Reaction Neut
NPC Reaction Rene

Basically, double space between people, but single space with the choices/reactions

Speaking for myself, it can be daunting when playing with a vivid and rich world.  At least the vanilla backdrop is fertile ground for experimentation.

Having said that, I love doing collaborative works!  Unfortunately, it's difficult to get the timing and organization down sometimes.

Hmmm....That could work. But, What about when things lead to different paths? Like...

Ok, Zaeed's Loyalty Mission. Paragons save the hostages while Renegades go after Vido. How do you write something that leads down two seperate paths?

It'd be interesting to know how the actual scripts for the games are formatted.

You could try to locate one of the leaked game scripts—the ME3 one, for example. What was the other recent one?

Well, if you like, I'd love to work out some kind of a collaboration with you. I'm really trying to get some additional material written up by different authors to add some mass to the ITU-niverse. You know, some additional stories like about what the rest of the squad were doing while Shepard was busy with the main objective and so on.

I meant the original ME3 script leak something like a year ago. I don’t know about Leviathan other than the sound files and such.

Anyone not been getting alert emails lately? Missed that two stories updated today, and wouldn't have known if I didn't curiously check my alerts page

Couldn’t say, but don’t think so since I only have a handful of alerts anyway. What’s this alerts page you’re talking about?

Hrm. Mayhaps I'm an isolated case...
And the alerts page is just that part of the ffnet alerts tab. Story alerts, author alerts, stuff like that.

Ok, I'm writing an origin story for my Shepard (Yeah, big surprise), however, being a biotic, it made me realize, what was Shepard's personal story for biotic training? Was Shepard an L3? Was Shepard at Jump Zero? Were they ever in the BaAT program Kaidan was in? How long do you think Biotic training is in comparison to boot camp? What kind of activities you think biotics have to go through before they're sent into the field?

I'm not sure if Shepard went to Jump Zero because he can still ask about this stuff from Kaidan but I highly doubt he went to BaAT considering Kaidan even goes to state the "goal" and ete, which Shepard would already know if he went there. Shepard and Kaidan also have enough years between them that Kaidan and Shepard wouldn't have met on Jump Zero. I believe its said somewhere that they first met on the Normandy.

I'd imagine that training would equel out the same length of time. Hence why Adepts understand more advanced Biotic Abilities while Vanguards and Sentinels have the Biotic Basics. It also would sort out inconsistencies of the Time Line should each class have requires different ammount of time training.

Lets say training takes place over a year.

Adepts = 12 months on Biotic Training with 0 Months on Combative Training.
Vanguards = 6 months of Biotic Training with 6 months of Combative.

I'd imagine that trainiees could be sent to Pinacle Station at some point.

Shepard was an L3 if they're a biotic, and they didn't go to BaAT, which would have shut down when Shepard was 15, two years before they got the L3 implant. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from twisting the canon, because it's pretty malleable and in the end it could make for a more interesting story.

I'd imagine that biotic training is different depending on what your skills/specialties are. Still, I'd imagine there would be a lot of physical training to build stamina, and there would be a lot of Biofeedback therapy to help one's focus on their biotic abilities improve. Amps don't immediately make you awesome and able to access your abilities, you need to learn how to tap into them still, and how to assign physical gestures to certain techniques. that takes time.

I'd wager that untrained biotics would take longer than traditional boot camp, with semi experienced biotics getting sped through the training at a faster clip.

The talk on the wiki entry for biotics has a lot of interesting discussion on this general topic.  It's the very first entry.  The long and short of it is that:
  • The game somewhat contradicts itself by having Shepard's implant installed at age 17, which is a little (though not egregiously) late.  This is done because Shepard is stated in ME1 to be an L3 biotic, and L3s were developed in that timeframe.  BAaT shut down two years prior amidst the fallout of Kaidan killing his instructor.
  • Also oddly, Shepard is stated to have had both in-utero exposure to eezo, and another exposure at age 14 that "cemented" his/her biotic aptitude.  This is extremely rare, and means that Shepard did not manifest biotic abilities in childhood, but only later as a teenager- which explains the delayed implant.
Given that the implant was installed at 17 and Shepard (by canon) enlists at 18, it's likely that ALL of Shepard's biotic training took place under the auspices of the Alliance rather than any of the re-branded Conatix subsidiaries that were also licensed (for lack of a better word) to train biotics.  As Kaidan notes in ME1, biotics of any stripe all remain monitored by the Alliance, so I imagine Shepard also underwent a certain amount of periodic evaluation for purposes of gathering data.  They might have been especially interested in Shepard- Kaidan is among the strongest human biotics, and the only  one he's met who rivals or exceeds his abilities is Shepard.  I don't think it's going out on much of a limb to speculate that Shepard may also be the only N7 biotic as of ME1 (at least).

Canon/canon speculation aside, I've always thought an AU story where Shepard DID go to BAaT would be tremendously interesting.  It's partially because Kaidan is one of my favorite characters, but also because I don't think enough attention is given to how frigging shady the whole thing was.  BAaT and most everything to do with the early history of human biotics was conducted with the support of the Alliance through corporations like Conatix that were given a free hand.  Conatix oversaw what amount to acts of terrorism over Alliance citizens by setting up "accidents" and the like to generate new test subjects, not to mention held children in isolation on a space station and killed several of them.  All this is only ever used as background, mostly for Kaidan, but I have to feel like Biotic Shepard has some thoughts on what it means to become what is likely the Alliance's most well-known biotic amidst this culture.  Doing this kind of AU story would allow some of these issues to be highlighted a little more easily.

I'm replaying ME1 and Ashley says that she had some teacher call her a Goldbricker and Shepard can point out that his teacher used the same phrase and that Ashley and Shepard went to the same boot camp, just at different times (Obviously). I don't remember the name but I'll look it up. Point is, It wasn't Jump Zero/BAaT.

Don't think you can reorder things. I think you just have to replace each chapter with the correct 'document' again.

^ You can, actually. Go to Publish > Manage > Content/Chapter, hit Edit…then there will be a small drop-down box labeled move, and you can select which position to move it to.

Tough choice…I was thinking about having this chapter contain two scenes, but I think it works better as just a single, short one. Might just split it out, and then readjust the other part into the next chapter.

Edit: …And that’s what I ended up doing.
