just my opinion, but I don't think the relay jumps are very rough inside the ship. half the crew is standing during some of the jumps in the game, and they'd probably sit if it was a jarring process. but what about an alert of some kind to wake your character? like an incoming call. or an announcement from the pilot that they have arrived in the whatever system. or someone talking nearby. or just assume that the jump is just rough enough to be felt in the ship like you said. I doubt anyone would complain about a detail like that. *smiles*

Probably depends on the circumstances of the jump. If its hurried, or through an unconventional relay like Omega Four (remember how Shepard shudders a bit during the jump), then it might be rough. If they have time to make the calculations and stuff, I'd imagine that it wouls be a subtle tug, a little moment of displacement.

While BioWare is notoriously bad about managing to stick to their canon, and don’t actually show the jump as instantaneous, I don’t actually see any jittering in the jump itself. They are (for whatever reason) shaking a bit more before the jump, and then when they arrive into the system, being that it’s where it is—but not during.

Readership seems to be normalizing again judging by my numbers, vacations starting to end everywhere. Reviews are very low, but that’s probably karma from how many stories my reading is behind on.

Good news, everyone. I've finally completed my latest project: my story for the ME Big Bang.
So, after 162 pages and over 48k words and around two months time, it's done! Rejoice with me friends!

Edit: Now comes the 'fun' part... editing. -_-

Ayup.  Give me a dark and quiet and isolated room and I can type at a fever pace.  Give me distraction... won't write a thing.

Edit: also, I need to get off my duff and read your stuff, lillitheris.

Edit2:  And while I'm here, I'm also currently writing a, hopefully, humorous take on the Control Ending called 'The Fun Filled Adventures of Reaper Lord Shepard'.

^ I’ve made an artform of doing three different things while being distracted by four others ^_^ How I’ve ever managed to put down 100 k plus words is beyond me.

Ooh
I don’t think there’s enough written about The Shepherd. This could be good!

Sorry, I feel a bit rude. Was at work earlier and managed to hop on during lunch...then it got busy again.

Decelerating from FTL sounds like a good shout. Since she's snuck aboard an auto-piloted freighter there are no extra measures for live passengers. Except maybe, you know, a breathable atmosphere. :P Unless I fudge that and say there was a mask included onboard, just in case... Hmm, complications.

Do the flashbacks have a secondary (or primary) purpose so that this character is only a part of them, or is introducing/expanding the character essentially the sole purpose?

There would be a two-fold purpose. One is just exploring a bit more of Miranda's childhood, and the other character is an old friend of her father, who features in the current bit of the story too.

I've not firmed up all the details anyway, and I'm thinking I may move some of it to after a particular moment in the story and also draw parallels with the Oriana 'situation'.

Hah!  you're a far better person than I am. :P  Honestly, I need complete and utter sensory deprivation to get anything done right.

Here's a link to where I got it currently, on Tumblr here. I hope it entertains you. :)

@hot_heart: Forums are asynchronous, no worries ^_^

Thinking about it more, I kind of feel that if the character appears in them, it’ll feel convenient anyway. The reader will quite probably forgive anyway, but the best way to mitigate that is to link the flashbacks to current events so that it’s felt there’s a reason why she goes to the particular memories that happen to feature the particular person
but of course, that would then possibly necessitate drawing a parallel with the person’s activities then and now

No, you're right to analyse it like that. The problem is trying to express what I want without spoiling anything while, at the same time, I don't expect everyone to be on the same page. The character has a certain 'presence' in the story and there had recently been a revelation regarding them, but I'm thinking I might shift it to a bit later.

Plus, it gives me something to fit in when Miranda and Oriana both together because...I'm struggling with what they might discuss. And I'm worried about demystifying this other character to some extent...

You know, it’d actually be pretty awesome if you can trans
late? that struggle into the actual conversation. Be it that they’re sisters, and be it that they will be BFFs too (maybe?), the initial conversations would be really awkward, especially with the age/life experience difference.

Yeah, that's a good point. I mean, they had been chatting prior to ME3 (provided you made that decision in ME2...which ME3 seems to assume anyway) but circumstances are very different now.

I'm also working in the angle of whether Oriana would want to stay with Miranda or her adopted parents; bearing in mind that Oriana is with Miranda in the epilogue slide for the Control ending. Had considered killing them off (via Reapers) but I think that might be a bit much, plus I figure Miranda would've made sure they were safe. Or at least, I've left it too late to establish any of that...

does anyone know the name of the salarian from the first game that was scanning the keepers? I remember his partner's name but can't remember his.

Awesome, will check it out! If you do get to reading, any comments are appreciated ^_^

Edit: you know, I don’t think I ever played the keeper scanning ‘right’
always ended up scaring the guy off.

I will.  You can be sure of it.  I have a tendancy to be quite... verbose in my reviews. :3

So much for trying to finish my project. Posted Image  Was on the starting line with guild yseterday for GW2 and spent hours in game and then chatting on mumble when log-in server crashed. Tried to do the next chapter and  ended distracted by the banter flying among the others. Posted Image

The in-game mechanic of having only a 3 man squad. How do people approach this, if at all? I've a scene where Shep wants to replace person A with person B, but the justification is being difficult.

I think this came up a few pages ago, if you want to look back for more opinions. I think the consensus was that usually there are other teams doing different things—decoys, interference, support, whatever—in each mission. The three-person squad is just the one you see.

Although, that said, I generally headcanon (not written down yet) that the squad is usually 2+2. (And the others are doing some kind of support).

Edit: Not sure I understand your specific situation, though. Are you wondering if it’s OK to have both A and B even if it puts you at 4, or if it‘s OK to move A to a different squad to make room for B without sidelining A? I’d say both are fine.

Edit2: Although in either case, you may want to surreptitiously explain to the reader how you are breaking the ‘rule’ of 3.

Hm, for combat yea, but what about things like just seeing Aria on Omega or whatever?  Without spoiling too much, basically when Shep meets Zaeed, she wants to dump Miranda and take him along instead.

I don’t see a problem with just doing that. So, in addition to just swapping in Zaeed and sending Randa back to the ship, you also have the options of keeping them both (which seems sensible, though you might want to comment something like “typically Shepard wanted to keep the squad at N members, but in this case
” if that applies), or sending her to join or create another squad.
