I probably should reread some other fanfics to see how other authors handled it.

The problem with reading other people's stuff is that it will be their Shepard and their interpretation. You might pick up a few useful pointers, obviously, but don't let it overrule your own instincts.Ursakar wrote...
I'm currently writing the Illium reunion scene between Shepard and Liara and I cannot suppress the feeling that I suck at writing romance. Don't know why. Maybe it's because it is the first time I write something like that or something.

I think it would be a good idea to consider what it is about their relationship that speaks to you. In general terms, I would consider:
- How they left things before Shepard 'died'. Had they discussed a future or taking it slow?
- Whether Shepard senses a change in Liara's demeanour and adapts, or if there is an awkward air to it.
- If there had been any contact or attempted contact before meeting face-to-face (perhaps Cerberus had blocked some of that).
- Who else is present at that time. An old acquaintance like Garrus or new (possibly unfriendly) faces?

For those writing Ashley fics... do you ever add snippets from the poem she quotes in your fan fiction. I looked up Tennyson poems and found an interesting passage I might want to include. Just wondered your take on adding such to your fan stories.
I think that sounds fine. This actually came up N pages back, I seem to recall… If you find fitting ones from the ones that we know she enjoys from the games—Tennyson, certainly—by all means use them. If you’re not comfortable with specifics, like I wouldn’t be, you can always fudge it by simply stating that she recites something.
The other consideration was how to use them. Whether Ash would actually cite poetry, or simply read for relaxation, whether she’d write herself and so on.
That's exactly what I was thinking of doing. Simply her stating a few lines in her apartment. Mostly reading for relaxation. Sort of to wind down from the events that happened earlier. Thanks for the input!

The FFN mobile site is actually quite nice and usable. Most of the info is there, handily available. Was toying around on it with my phone.

Has anyone here reached a point in their story where they're just sick of it and want to end it soon? I'm kinda approaching that feeling myself.
Actually, definitely, yeah. Well, maybe not. I love my characters, but I'm kind of really exhausted of working in the timeline I've been working in. In the last two weeks, I've finshed all I've wanted to accomplish in it. I've been yearning for the ME timeline for two months now. I'm only a chapter or two away and it feels amazing, but I still need to get those last 6-14k words out.
But it didn't change the fact that two weeks ago, I still wanted it all to be over with. I was still having fun writing though, it was just frustrating, is all. It's like gangrene...you can't let it spread fast. make a decision. I decided to pound out massive chapters covering lots of material in a short time to get it over with. My other option was ending it rather poorly. However, my story NEEDED a specific ending. It still does, which is why I'm 1-2 chapters away (I still fear it will be a lackluster finish, but I've never been great with endings, I'm not good at handling epic things).
Make a decision. No one's pointing a gun at you (or if they are, ask them to please lower their firearm).

Anyways, I hope to stick it out a bit longer to give the story its due respect, but I'm just annoyed of it at this point. Was wondering if that was a normal experience.

If you tire of a project, simply swap to another project or just chill for a while until coming back. I know long 100'000+ stories can get tiresome at stages when the plot is moving along a bit too slowly.

Usually, a good little break is good enough to get your head sorted. Read some other books/stories, watch some films; stuff like that.

I’ve been at the ‘woo gonna finish this chapter tonight’ mode for the last 4 nights. Somehow, it‘s still not done. Hm. Maybe tonight’s the night?
I'm always like that.
I felt proud last week, I made 3 chapters in one week. That's a record for me. Usually takes me like one to two weeks to post a chapter. I felt uber charged because I had some really crazy ideas on moving the plot forward. And its going to get crazier. I think my own fanfiction will make me insane. Lol.

I’m spending more time ‘living’ the conversation bits in my head than writing. I guess it’s a good sign, but still.

It would be cool if someone here did let me know how I did on that aspect on my latest chapter. I'm going to be doing more of those, and I want to know how to improve the writing.

I do have a slight lull right now, tangentially to the earlier topic…there’s not that much happening plotwise right now; it leaves a lot of room for characters, which is awesome, but perhaps that’s a part of my meandering.

It happens. What's going on IRL tends to affect my overall speed as well. When I started my fic originally (in the before time, with the high scrapers) I was able to knock out a couple chapters a week. Can't keep up the same pace now and some chapters always take longer than others.

Really tough finishing a fic off. I honestly didn't expect to get as far as I did, really, when I started this in May. I think it's going to take me all night to get this as right as I can...

Incidentally, met Jennifer Hepler at a convention meet-up discussing women's roles in the video game industry today. Got her autograph. Fight templars!

That feel when you're on the last section of your fic and you're riding the high of being at the finish line, while hoping that you were good enough to meet expectations.

Like the last, last chapter, your writing that now.... Cries, what am I going to do without looking forward to your chapters.
