heh Yeah , my second story is doing much better in the other place then it is in FF

A pain having to dump all the chapts into threads... just spent time doing that and ended up with an extra chapter?  Not sure if it was the numbering or if I split a chapter without realising, but it seems to read okay.  Go figure.

I'm not trying to set a precedent, but...

Top post Tableau!

Rila and Felere run down the beach back towards their sister and mother.

“You'll never beat me!” shouts Rila.

Rila arrives back at the family first, falling dead tired onto the sand, closely followed by Felere with sand spraying all over the area.

Mirata lowers her sunglasses to look over them with a little disgust, “Tsk, watch it!”, then returns to reading.

“Will you come swimming, mother?”  Felere asks.

“Please, mother!”

Samara rises from her beach towel and straightens her swimming costume around her athletic body, the result of years training and exercising.

“Are you coming to swim with your sisters, Mirata?”

“I wouldn't be seen dead.” Mirata says without looking up from her datapad.

“A simple 'no' would suffice. But very well.”

The two girls always feel proud walking with their elegant mother along the beach. She is quite the local celebrity due to her prowess on the skyball team. Mirata thinks she seeks more from life, always searching for new ideas and philosophies. She is rarely to be found without some new tome of art and literature, essays and debate. She certainly likes to think she is a cut above her simple siblings. Her maiden stage cannot come soon enough so she can get out on her own and explore all the mysteries of the galaxy.

As she reaches the water's edge, Samara wades in to hip height then dives forward with barely a splash as her
body cuts into the water. The two younger sisters run into the water, splashing and laughing then swim to try and catch up with their mother who is already powerfully moving through the water.

^ Somehow or other, I never thought Asari would ever need swimming costumes. They're all mono-gender.

Has anyone played X-Com yet? I'm just waiitng for the price to drop.

I think there's something wrong when Reaper forces are so mundane compared to Collectors (MP).  I find myself disliking Collectors more than Reapers. Also find the new type of rankings totally hilarious, especially those on solo games. One can get away with it for Bronze and Silver. But Gold and Platinum?:lol::lol::lol::lol:

That's so unrealistic. BW, you're digging a deeper hole than ever.

Not sure what difference that'd make.  Do you like lashing your bits about when the same sex is around?

In the absence of any further information...

'Herbie goes to the Races'

'Everything you ever wanted to know about the asari, but were too afraid to ask'

I'll stop.

Sorry.

Look over there!  It's Liara!

The difference being that Asari are not humans. That's just imo; their culture will be different. I'm not saying that it's wrong that you want them to wear swimming costumes. :P

Yeah, we can do that. :D  I think I happened to have a game with you once. That was back when the new maps were introduced. I remembered because of your nick, or a nick that looked like yours. It was the London map and there were only 3 of us. We wiped on wave 10, I think, getting 4 nodes. The 3rd node was stuck out in the open and we were not able to hold back the mobs (Cerberus). None of us were playing a class with grenades which would have helped, :P

Okay, this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but I have just learned that somehow since last year, my tolerance for alcohol has drastically decreased! Posted Image

The codex says asari are a social species. I'm not sure about swimsuits/no swimsuits... never really thought about it, but I mentioned how one of my asari characters was uncomfortable in revealing clothing and thus avoided beaches and pools. On the other hand, I always sort of pictured asari being comfortable with nudity, such as having communal bathing areas. So I guess I've always mentally contradicted myself! Posted Image

Despite my tableau there, I'm also a bit conflicted on the asari naturism thing, When I did a scene in which Liara *ahem* lets herself go under the influence of alcohol, I mentioned that Liara is not comfortable with her body. I was going to, but fell short of, saying that this is unusual for asari and while at university the other students weren't bothered about wandering the halls of residence naked but Liara was uncomfortable even with this. So by my own 'canon', yea, maybe they would be 'naturists' on Thessia when swimming or other relevant activities. I think I'm probably worried that it could come across that it was only written that way for voyeurism / perversion haha.

I sort of viewed asari comfortability with this sort of thing sort of like it has been portrayed in some anime. A group of close friends or siblings might bathe together and socialize while relaxing thusly, but public nudity would be less appropriate. But I suppose either a more puritanical view or a more naturist idea could apply. Based on what little is said about asari social norms, either could be entirely plausible.

Edit: Although I share your particular worry about how that sort of thing could come across. I was going to have a conversation between two characters in my story in the bath, but I didn't want it to come across as the author... me... being a perv, so I shifted said conversation to the crew lounge. But in that case I actually liked it better in that location, so it all worked out well.

Well, my sister and I are close but I don't think I will be bathing with her or hit the hot tub nude with her. I dont think that has anything to do  with a society but rather a choice. Some humans are perfectly happy to be naked and some I wish were naked more often ;) but I think a bunch of Asari walking around naked sounds more like a fanatasy then what Asari were really meant to be like. I don't think I have read anywhere that the Asari walk around thier home world naked. Maybe in a dorm they are more relax and go from their rooms to shower naked, but I bet that would never be all of them, just a few bold ones

\\Edit: and some humans should never be seen naked

I think that, coming from a completely different set of cultures, there's a lot of flexibility on what exactly the asari think about nudity. I don't think they would all walk around naked, per se, but seeing as all of their bodies are similar, I doubt that anyone would make a big deal about nudity, especially with how their fashion is portrayed throughout the ME series, and how many asari are compelled to explore and experience the galaxy at a young age, often taking up dancing, which holds no negative stigma, but is seen as a positive role.

To me, that shows they are at the very least a sex-positive species (in general) and are comfortable with their bodies. I wouldn't imagine they have many hang-ups over their bodies and how they accessorize them. Combine that with them likely being a more collectivist society, and they're probably more comfortable around close friends and family. I don't think the asari would walk around all of Thessia in the nude, but I doubt any close family would bat an eye over one of their relatives walking around nude in their residence, or in their company. There wouldn't be the sexual connotations we humans have, because out reproductive organs are visible when nude, and we require the use of them for reproductive purposes. For asari, their reproductive organ is their mind, their body ending up as the vessel for what reproduction they decide upon. There would likely be little stimulus to mate upon seeing a naked form, since it is not linked to their sexuality nearly as strongly as it is in humans.

So...yeah. I don't think nudity would generally be a huge issue there. I wouldn't doubt there would be asari that dislike nudity, but it wouldn't be a culturally engineered mindset like it is here.

That's how I'd view it also.  That said, I'm writing for humans (and their hangups) so avoided it ^^

D'oh. I think a combination of things left a reader a little confused about one aspect of my story.
Tip: don't be (naturalistically) spare with certain bits information and take ages to update. :P

At least it was only a minor thing.
