Yeah, video cards can be really finicky, and they need to be cleaned often, I find. Either that, or ensure you have good cable management and airflow.Obsidian Gryphon wrote...
I started learning a little bit
about components way back in the 90s when a friend helped to set up my
first DIY rig so I know how to make sure I get the right hardware and
change them out. I'm a total dud when it comes to software, which I
leave to the techs.

connections and recently, I found that the current rig is actually
sporting a pwr supply meant for servers [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie] and the jacks incorrectly connected to the graphic card) or the optical drive.

Haven't posted in here for a while. I've been hopelessly slack lately. Very busy at work and then, as experience has taught me, I've jumped at any chance for socialising (gets harder as you get older).
Anyway, hope everyone's writing is ticking along well. Currently, I'm struggling with writing a knock-down, drag-out brawl between Kai Leng and Miranda but trying not to go overboard with the brutality. I think you can get away with a certain amount of 'uncomfortable' reading (I dabbled with it in chapter sixteen), but there is a risk of looking like a sadist...or is it masochist when it's first-person? =p
For discussion's sake, has anyone attempted a similar sort of thing, or included a fight where their main character essentially loses? I'd be interested in reading any such stuff if people have links.

Aye, I think Miranda would use her intellect and her fully-tooled skillset to ward off leng, or even wound him. Considering a near-death and sluggish Thane managed to knock Leng around, I'm pretty sure Miranda could go toe to toe with him. He's too cocky, and so is miranda, but she's cocky because she's smart, able to adapt. leng has tech and close combat skills. I think she'd edge him out if she was able to control the environment to her advantage.enayasoul wrote...

I think the farthest that I went with having the main character loose... is getting shot at or stabbed or beaten down emotionally.
For Shepard in the game, I think Thessia was a place where Shepard loses. You have to have some place where you think the main character looses it all or almost loses it. He or she then finds the strength and comes back as a lion... for example. S/he kicks ass near the end.
So with Miranda... honestly, I would have loved to see her kick Kai Leng's butt but intelliently. Her using her mind, her biotic moves, and essentially outsmarting him. (apparently she had when slipping that tracer on him. I think she was just caught off guard from that one video of Kai Leng leeping at her.) That could make her feel a bit cocky but then Kai Leng could get in few good moves balance it out.
Personally, I'm against violence towards woman and that's what we do see a lot of on tv in crime shows and so forth. I've asked myself why is it always the woman who are victims of rape, battered wives, poisoned, stranglation, shot etc.

Yeah, graphic cards are monsters nowadays.Stretching from end to end and so heavy. I do have surge protectors now and I clean my rig every week. Really. Every weekend, I will take out whatever can be taken out, wash whatever can be washed and dry properly and the rig's innards dusted and vacuumed.

A few months ago when I called in the techs, newly recommended, they helped me to bring down the rig to the graphic card vendor, the techs at that end thought it's a new machine and couldn't believe it's 3 years old. Neither could the techs I called in until I enlightened them.

Nice! Congrats on the productive days, those are really the best days everenayasoul wrote...
I was productive today. Plotted out 6 pages worth of written plots in chapters/ideas from where my story is now to where I left off... trying to get a more coherent sense in my mind where it's all going so I can finish up this new chapter and get it published... had to work through an idea I've been exploring in my mind wanting out.You know those ideas that want to take it in a new direction from what you previously written? Had to make sure it worked with what I had written ahead and previous.
Yeah, I've got an idea of how to keep it balanced enough. After all, as the game suggests, she had to have learned something crucial about him. Whether she's a better combatant close-up, I'm not so sure (and after having fought a load of Reapers), but getting in close to plant the tracer was a risky move, regardless. I'm actually painting Leng as the cocky one (and he obviously has temper issues).enayasoul wrote...

Got a question about biotics and armor. How much effect does the type of armor affect the casting ability of biotics? As in the lighter the armor, the better the force and application of the cast?
