Well I've gone for it... just posted it up.
Probably a bit of a rod for my own back in the long run.  But who doesn't like a challenge eh?

Oh... top post eh...?  Inspired by a comment from fluffy about... well... read on.

Well this is different. Dave Watt thinks.

Last he remembered was guiding Commander Shepard through the Citadel markets in his bedroom, searching for elusive Colossus amour, then an intense blue flash. Now he stands in the markets of the Citadel, for real. He is terrified. The aliens from his game are all the more strange when viewed in person. He looks down the stairway to see... Shepard? He cannot help himself.

“Is that really..? Wow! It's you!” he shouts.

Shepard walks over to him.

“You're Commander Shepard! The hero of Eden Prime! I am so honoured to meet you.” he says in disbelief, awestruck not only that he is actually in his game's universe, but he is now meeting the heroine. He's glad he designed his female Shepard to be so beautiful.

“Nice to meet you.” Shepard replies, shaking Dave's hand. “And you are...?”

He can't say 'Dave Watt'. That just so dull. He needs an exciting name. Something unusual.

“My name is... Conrad.” Yea, Conrad, that's pretty cool.  “Conrad Verner.” Conrad Verner, hero of the Galaxy,
yea, that works.

“Nice to meet you, Conrad.”

The military treats it a little more seriously, I guess. My ex served in the middle east and was diagnosed there with PTSD. They sent her home, got her into counseling, and eventually granted a medical discharge from the service. She is still dealing with the disorder to this day, but they took the matter very, very seriously. Unfortunately, PTSD itself is not easily shaken off. The effects linger.

Unfortunately your ex is one of the lucky ones. There are plenty of soldiers that live with it with varying degrees of success and I've personally known a few that only got better after a good bit of time. While they were overseas it wasn't a matter of 'not being fit', they had a job to do and they did it.

Another thing to consider with PTSD is that often it doesn't fully manifest until after the individual is out of the enviroment that triggered it.

In a situation as grim as the Reaper war? I can definitely see someone hanging in there and doing whatever they can. There isn't a 'safe place' to go back to for treatment when the entire galaxy is at war. If its an acknowledged problem a CO might try to work around it but for a key member of the team it would be hard to replace them on the fly.

Ugh. Finished my last stats project yesterday, collapsed into bed directly after, and was met with like, 40k+ words to read when I woke up.
Gotta go grocery shopping before I catch up. At least it's been a relaxing, reading-filled thursday. Should be doing school readings instead for tomorrow's class, but...meh. There's only so much Judith Butler one can read in a single week. :P

On-topic: I am not seeing the benefits of having a buffer of a few chapters. This month was supposed to be hell for me, but...that buffer I built early in the month(and late october) really saved me from stressing, and it's been so easy to write for the past bit. Only hard part is not sabotaging it by releasing my buffer chapters early :P Still don't know if I have the patience for it, but it's done me wel this month.

So kudos to you, Drussius, for inspiring the idea. Really has helped me out so far :)

Yeah, I know how the impatience can get to you, but it really makes it far less stressful for me. I wouldn't get too bent out of shape if I had to delay things because I had life issues to deal with anyway, but it's nice to know that I've got a couple Chapters just waiting to be published, so if I need a break I can still update regularly. I'm glad it's working out for you too. Posted Image

only just have good marks on many subjects in school, keep getting blanks whilst writing and, to top it off, the tekkit server i have been on for 2 months is shutting down. *unhappy sigh*

Gah! as femShep might say. I really do feel like I've written myself into a corner with the PTSD storyline. I wrote loads today, but it's only making it worse, harder to get back from. To have a main character out of action and to try and get them back into the game as it were, really hard. I said in one of the previous posts about making a rod for my own back but, man! Ah well, venting done. I'll sleep on it before posting any chapters.

What you doing all the way down here, thread?  I can only presume everyone has kidnapped all the muses and are furiously writing away.

Damn dayshift and getting up a 3 am: This is what happens when one falls asleep at the computer

It grew quiet in the car and Lanie refused to look in her direction. Sam didn't need to see her to know that she was fighting to hold back her emotions.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Haha, yes. Yes, sleepiness can certainly cause one to indulge in a single character or so. My favourite is when i've been up for 30-40 hours and my finger is pressed down on a key and I'm staring at it, wondering why I'm pressing it. And then I start to think about unicorns, and I'm still pressing it. And then seventeen pages of the letter L later, I realize what I'm doing and stop :P

That's quite funny actually. A RL friend read some of my fic and said I use commas too much lol. Curse you Latin, for making me this way!

there are other keys to press that mean the same thing (such as this one: - )

I've always been kind of wary of using "-" in my stories...I only really use it when it's necessary (used between two words to link them) and if someone is getting seriously cut off. Outside of that, I've always felt that commas and semi colons were generally more appropriate and organic.

Though in the end, it comes down to writer style. Where I use "...", many use "-". And where I use semi colons, many often use either a period, and start another sentence, or they use another comma. Hooray for having so many ways to write!

I used to try and avoid dashes, at all costs, but I've managed to become less prescriptive about that element. I still have some OCD-type tendences that I try to shake though...

I could get boring about 'correct' English usage for semi colons and the like, but like I said, that'd get boring. ^^

I found the usage of double hyphen in the ME subtitles just, well, wrong. Use a comma or use a semi colon as appropriate. Please!

well, if you guys want to learn where are good places to place dashes, i recommend reading the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Claire
