On the subject of OCs, since I haven't yet written a story with canon characters as the entire cast, I can't speak of comparisons, but I get moderate numbers for my story, generally speaking. I only recently hit 100 views on the day of a new Chapter's release for the first time. I have only a few favs and follows, but I have three dedicated reviewers that respond to every Chapter... four if you count the guy here on BSN who responds in the thread for my fic... and judging from the numbers, about 30 people who read every Chapter of the fic on the day I post them. By the end of the day of publishing, my visitors (not views) for each new Chapter reliably hit 30.

But honestly, it's more than I ever hoped for, and I've been seeing spikes in views recently. I knew that OC-based stories would be less popular than those about characters from the games, but I had my idea and wanted to run with it. And I wanted it to be (mostly) canon, so I couldn't put the game's cast into my story or it would have been an alternate universe story. I'm really trying to keep my story so it's happening in parallel to the games. The part where the Alliance Sixth Fleet briefly engaged the Reapers over Terra Nova before fleeing, as explained in the planet description in ME3 for Terra Nova, the fact that the Reaper forces there are light in comparison to other places hit, etc... those are taken directly from the games. Hopefully I'm being successful in that regard for the most part.

Regarding reviews: I haven't read anyone's stories in a while... too busy writing for the past couple of months, and I have a whole list I want to get to reading eventually. But when I do read, I review whenever I stop reading. When I receive reviews, on the other hand, I always try to respond, even if it's just to say thank you. I figure if a reader took the time to comment, the least I could do is take the time to say thanks. Besides, I usually think of a thing or two I'd like to say in response to comments, and it's nice to talk to people who are reading the story.

for the OC thing, i'm in the same boat (kinda) as druss, but my (only) story is fairly new, so i definitely dont have a big number of views (i have around 650) and i only have one regular reviewer: our friend Lemur

Numbers aside, I just finished sketching out the next several chapters of my fic and I'm so excited to write it now. ^_^ Reviews are rewarding but sometimes I think the rush is better lol.

I was aware there are two options. The Hollywood version and the other. I chose the former without actually looking very deeply into reviews, etc. All I know was that it was good.

After watching, I looked up Wiki (I've only read the first bk btw) and rad up about the two, how their versions went compared to the novels. They followed the same path, mostly until the end. There is a difference with the conclusions respectively. Without watching the Swedish version, I'm going to say I'm going to hold on to the DC & RM version because it followed the novel; Salander walked away after seeing Blomkvist with Berger, tossing her xmas gift for him into the bin.

I could almost hear her thoughts as she went off on her bike and thought, that's no fair. I've been rooting for her. So I leapt to find out exactly what happened in the following novels. The sequels will be made by the same ppl so I really hope they keep to the story.

Just watched Dangerous Liaisons (Glenn Close,John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer) on Bluray. Still kinda fuzzy picture though. Of course it's an old movie, they can't clean up everything. oooo, that slimy rake.

^_^ I love that feel. I have about a dozen scenes outlines for future events, and a broad timeline done, and I just...I want my semester to be over so I can full-on tackle the fic!

Because writing is fun :o

Hrm. well...I'm not sure what the solution to that is. Normally, if I find my interest is waning, I add fluff, and suddenly everything's better.

Though I can understand the potential crunch-time blues, when your story is reaching the climax and there's so much to cover, and wrap up, and it can be difficult to get motivated. So if that's the case...i'm not sure.

Maybe giving yourself some space from the story for a bit?

I've got so many gaming things I want get done, writing to write, and today (Saturday) I need to get a musical piece completed (which I've barely started) for 7pm, AND it's a ME3 MP Challenge weekend too.  So much to do... so little time... oh the hardships... hehe.

I wish I had your problems...

You should definitely post it, I can't think of any reason to delay the upload of new chapters.

Congrats!
I'd lean toward posting it, unless you feel that you might be pressed for time in the near future, and could use it as a bit of a buffer.

Well done to anyone writing OC stories; it's tougher to ensnare readers with the fruits of your own imagination but it's so rewarding when you do.

Congrats to all who've just released new material in time for the weekend. Honestly Satris, I don't think it's detrimental to post one chapter quickly after another, in fact the fast releases reassure people the story's still being worked on eagerly - I've found one of the biggest things readers fear is a sudden halt in releases.

OCs can be a lot of fun or a pain in the tookus.

I like mine, even if no one else seems to. :)

I usually try to keep posting one chapter a day. Is that too little?

One chapter a day is a torrid pace :o Good for you, for being able to do that.

(And I agree, OCs cab be a lot of fun, but they can carry some trouble with them)

Especially when you try to balance things out for your OC. Technically, one of my OC's is capable of doing as much damage as the Normandy's entire crew (Normandy with Thanix cannon included). :wizard:

Aye. It can be very difficult , i'd imagine. It was always a fine balance to keep in pen and paper, it's equally fun and difficult i'd imagine on paper/in publication.

Yeah, godmode characters SEEM fun, but writing them believably? Ouchtime.

I have an OC who started out as a Sentinel, went to Adept training and THEN wound up in the N7 program as a Fury.

But no, she can't use Singularity, Overload AND Dark Channel at the same time. She is good, she is not that good.
