As an example from my current story, when I started to struggle a bit early on, I decided to sit down one morning and write about two of my characters shopping together on Illium.

LOL that sounds like one of my actual chapters...

Oh right. *slaps head* How did I ever forget about that? I think I've been looking at the Wiki page too much.

Ugh writing action scenes is annoying. One can only reduce violence so much during a momentous battle like Torfan. :\\ Can't wait to finish this forsaken chapter...

And bump

Haha, thanks :)

I finally finished Torfan. Now the finishing sections on the chapter. It's a long one this time around... <_<

I must say, it never cease to amaze me how the simplest fixes elude you when you're busy obsessing about them. In the Chapter I am currently writing, I'm just not happy with the flow of it and the pacing. It's been bugging me all morning and I spent about five hours not writing anything new, just repeatedly tweaking what I have to get it right...

So I finally get frustrated and go sit with the kids to play some games and have some fun, and about 10 minutes into the game it occurs to me... If I just cut section 1 in half and insert section 2 into the middle of it, it fixes everything I hate about the current pace!

Just thought I'd share. Sometimes walking away from the story and doing something else is exactly what you need to get back on track.

I usually get good ideas while the kettle is boiling. :D

Ships.

Working on a new post-ME3 story atm with OCs and a new ship but not sure on the ship side of things. My plan... is to have the ship made from debris from the various Reaper battles and for it to have stealth capabilities. Is there a minimum class or type I should be considering for this? It can't be TOO big a craft in my story or more crew would be required and that wouldn't really fit my premise.

I think. Frigate class/size at the most. The problem is that there are no specs for the usual Alliance frigate vs the Normandy SR 1. No idea on size of crew complement for the Alliance frigate. But I guess you can first build the engine and then decide.

Hmm.  There was a crew complement manifest on wiki but that was getting into like 40+.  Really, I only want a team of around 6 or 7.  Hm.  May have to re-think that one.  That said... Normandy SR-2 seemed to function okay with vitrually no crew (post Collector abduction).  I hadn't considered including a ship AI but... hmm...

But if it's a post-Destroy ending...NO AI FOR YOU. COME BACK. ONE YEAR. :P

I dunno. Post-destroy people probably have their hands full with other things, plus massive amounts of infrastructure (manufacturing etc.) is gone, making it hard to build anything on a massive scale. But there's no reason they would have forgotten HOW to create an AI. This would be easier or harder depending on how you interpret Starkid's cryptic statements about technology. I've seen everything from "only reaper tech" to "literal stone age, BUT IN SPACE!" (Of course, I'm discarding those who would rather flat-out ignore things from the ending and re-script it from scratch, which may also be a valid choice depending on the story you want to tell.)

For what it's worth I've always guessed the SR-1 probably ran with about 40 crew. Turian frigates of similar size have about that many. The SR-2 is larger but has EDI, so may not have required more crew or even as many crew.

Yup, it's a bit messy. I feel some space magic coming on... hehe.

@lilivati: Oh, it was your story that was the young Kaiden one. Read that a while back and enjoyed it but forgot who wrote it or what it was called. :) Ta.

Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it. :) Sometimes I think about expanding it and doing a series of Jump Zero vignettes or something, but I've already got more things I want to do than time. :P

I think I'm going down the 'some time after the reaper war, murmur, murmur, relays fixed, yarder, yarder, ding! space magic!' route.

With murmur murmur yarder yarder space magic, anything can be accomplished. XD

A quick/weird question. Do you guys prefer to maintain the old grammatical distinction between 'farther' and 'further'? Essentially, they can mean the same thing, but I should be using 'farther'. Only, it sounds a bit weird. Maybe because Miranda was never written to make those sorts of distinctions.

I'm asking really because I'm using the phrase 'Not much farther...' as a repeated paragraph ending during a bit of action, and I wanted to get it right. So, even just letting me know which you prefer would be helpful.

I've no preference really on farther/further, though I do use the old form to make a char sound distinct.

My fic is post ME 3 and I discarded everything after femShep's conversation with everyone, so no Starbrat, no Leviathan exist in my story. I gave a different weaving to the retaking of Omega, it happened after the war. A.I.? Mass relays? Geth? EDI? Yeah, they still exist in my fic.

I view all that happened in ME to be canon, I don't really mess with that stuff personally so wouldn't be happy to discard it all.  Systhesis/Control are too messy for me, so destroy it has to be.  Like I said, if it's set 'some time after the Reaper war' and it was stated by everyone's favourite AI that it shouldn't take long to rebuild, I can have a little artistic licence (or 'vagueries' hehe) over it all.

Further/Farther: I always think that Miranda is a correct usage kind of a gal.  I don't think it'd be jarring particularly.

I have always treated it as such: just because it was destroyed does not mean it can't be rebuilt. It would take years but it is not impossible, Just one step at a time. I had Earth a little bit slummier with no defence at first, the ships and the relays functioning (I started 2 years after the war for one story and five years after for the next) I like happy endings so mine sort of went that way. I have seen it handled all sorts of different ways, even to the point of new technology being built. It's your fan fic, have fun with it

Unfortunately, I'm one of those who cannot accept BW's "artistic integrity" package. Never will. At the most, the beam to the Citadel is still there but the entire mission for it is totally different in my book (though I've yet to mention it, just looking for a suitable place to insert in fanfic). There are also no RBG choices, the Crucible did what it was supposed to do; stop the Reapers. There're also other differences but let's move on.

I guess I'm still spelling out my anger. My fic is almost like a f*** you, f*** you BW. Don't worry, this little terrier will soon loosen its bite and prance away.  By then, I guess I will officially and quietly sign out of BSN.

Unless BW can save themselves from themselves.. Which really, I'm not puting my money on.

Hehe, I hear ya.  I'm sure we all do to varying degrees.

Sadly, I've 'essays' I've written on justifying the god-child's premise, as I could quite easily go with the AI/Organic extinction  'problem' and their less than elegant original 'solution'.  I've tried to incorporate these ideas into an extended conversation between Shep and god child atop the Citadel.  Might post it one day and wait for the vitriolic hate hahaha.
