@ Ursakar: soo jealous (in a non-vindictive way). I'm still fishing for reviews. Although I must say, I think I missed the boat on getting a ton of readers on an ME3 fic.

Soon after the ending debacle, I posted nearly 2000 views on my ME3 ending fic within the first week. Still only about 10 reviews though. At any rate, congrats!

Padok Wiks on coffee....BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Seriously though, my Shepard prefers tea, plain, one cube of sugar and a squeeze of lemon.

The love of his life, Liara, takes fancy coffee with creme and sugar.

The other love of his life, Jack, takes her's black with heavy shot of Jack Daniels, lol.

The Bromance of his life, Garrus, takes his coffee black, no additives, b/c he's just too cool to accessorize his pick-me-up!

Not-Legion drinks a caustic mix of lighter fluid, 10W40, and Synthetic Motor Oil...

Aha! The Citadel DLC can answer this one for me.

...she has tea. Though, I always figured she'd be a black, no sugar kind of person. Just something basic and quick, so she can stay awake and keep on working.

Oh, and it seems that I'm more keen to get straight onto the next chapter rather than take a little break this time. Could be the feedback...or my motivation got a little boost from playing some ME2.

Hmm. I've got a ton of characters who drink coffee, but I've never specified their preference, other than one or two of them. I'll have to think about that...

Though, now that I think about it, while Chula hasn't been shown drinking coffee, she does like dextro-based hot cocoa during quiet nights sitting in the Sulaco's flight deck, turning down all the lights so she can see the stars clearly, and just gazing out at them. (Awesome pic here: http://fav.me/d5hymin:D

And just a quick announcement--just posted the latest chapter of Freelancers on FF.net a few minutes ago (and will put it on several other sites shortly). Quick preview...

Kurakova rushed past Valeria and swatted the other guy's rifle away. He swung his left fist at her, but she caught his wrist, twisted it, and braced her other hand on the side of his head. Then she shoved him into the wall, grinding the side of his face into the metal, and gave his wrist another quarter-turn. He scrunched his face up and released a loud groan.

"We're here to see your boss," Valeria said. "Where is he?"

"F*** y--"

Kurakova wrenched his arm farther back and increased the pressure on his head.

"Aaaaaauuuuuuuuuugh!"

"Shhh." Kurakova shook her head. "Answer the lady's question."

There. A blur of motion in the corner of her eye--Kelham's white jacket whipping around the corner of the alley almost directly below her.

Chula stared at the street and shook her head. "Is this guy half monkey?"

Whatever he can do, I can do better.
Dakka flicked a glance to the left, found the cracked and crumbling wall of a parking garage within jumping distance, and pushed off. She shot across the alley as she dropped, caught hold of a ledge one level below, and jumped again, launching herself back across to the hotel. She found a handhold, dangled just long enough to brace her feet against the wall, and thrust away again, bouncing back and forth until she landed on the street.

She glanced up, saw Chula descending the same way, and charged around the corner. She stopped, scanned the broken and rubble-strewn street ahead, and a human life sign blipped up in her HUD.

"He's already on the next corner." Dakka sprinted down the street, hopping craters and vaulting or dive-rolling over destroyed vehicles and huge chunks that had been blown off nearby buildings. She turned the corner and found a set of stairs, twisted and tilted slightly by an impact two years ago. She looked past it and found Kelham had already crossed another parking lot and was now climbing through a broken-out window into a shopping mall.

"Seriously?" Chula grumbled as she caught up with Dakka. "Half monkey, half jackrabbit. All ass****."

Chula turned and hurried back into the store--just in time to see Leng's blade punch through Dakka's chest and out her back.

A cold sensation gripped Chula's heart and suddenly she couldn't breathe. No! She dropped her swords and pulled out one of her hand cannons.

Smirking, Leng started to pull his sword out--but Dakka clamped her left hand around his and held it there. The smirk vanished, replaced by a look of confusion which quickly turned to fear. He pulled again, but couldn't budge even a millimeter.

He glanced at her huge hand wrapping around his, braced his other hand against her chest, and tried again to yank his blade out. And again, he couldn't move, and couldn't let go. He looked up at her and some of the color drained from his face. His breathing quickened and his mouth fell open.

"Nice blade. Think I'll keep it." Dakka shoved the blade back in, all the way to the hilt, leaned over, and laughed in his face.

I've found that if I think about review counts for too long I will quite frankly drive myself to insanity.  So I try to simply focus on appreciation for each review I do receive.  :P  (I have more follows than reviews.  How wonky is that?)

Not especially wonky. I have a 3 chapter fic with 4 reviews and 19 follows ... the majority of which came after I put the bloody thing on hiatus. Wonky would be if you had more reviews than hits.

And I'm one of your non-reviewing followers (sorry). Part of that is because I stopped reading in about October and only started again a month ago so I had some catch up to do. I promise I'll do better next time. :pinched:

Uh, I don't think my Shepard or Miranda drink coffee. I think that if they need energy they just have an energy drink.

Oh, please don't feel guilty.  I'm just about the world's worst reviewer myself.  I appreciate the reads though. :)

I think one of the best but also most eyebrow-raising reviews I've gotten was from a person who said they read it in one sitting, at a time when it was over 180k words.  I don't think I could do that, and I could skim most of it.

Eh, I feel guilty anytime I read without reviewing if it's someone from here. Or if it's well written. Or both. I know how much I love reviews, so I assume other people love them too.

I feel the same. Though, I probably don't read anyone in here's stuff. I am very picky about what I read on FF.net. Pretty much just read Femshep/Miranda stuff, FRevan/Bastila stuff, or FWarden/Morrigan. Basically I read non-canon femslash pairings, and that's it.
So, worked on a bit in the third chapter of my KoTOR fic that I'm not so sure about the wording of, what do you guys think. Here it is.
-=0=-
Bastila laughed,
and said, “Are you really going to keep that as a pet?”
“You bet! Isn't he cute?”

“I guess.”
“He'll need a name. What do you think of maybe horny?”
Bastila said, “That's a terrible name.”
“Uh, then how about Dinner?”
“Dinner's an atrocious name for a kath hound!” Bastila said.
“Then I guess I'll go with Urz. Sounds like it belongs on a kath hound.” Revan said.
“I guess.” Bastila replied.
-=0=-
In it, Revan, Bastila, and Malak(Alek at the time) found a wounded kath hound, Rev healed it up, and now its following her around.
*edit, did a bit of tweaking to make it look better.

I've had my Shepard drink black coffee... coffee with creamer... he tried some of Miranda's energy drink coffee...

I mostly have Miranda drinking lots of bottled water and various kinds of tea. :)

And Asari red wine for both.

Shepard drinks various kinds of alcohol bourben, vodka, etc... but lately he doesn't drink much any more after getting drunk one night with the 'guys'. I had Miranda express her distaste for him being careless... when people were out to kill him.

Yeah, I know what you mean.  I always tell myself "I'll review when I get to the end!" and then something interrupts me.  And then I forget about it.  :S  And then I remember in the middle of the night and feel awful.

At least you're honest about Sacrecen. I have to bribe people for reviews with donuts.

and Oreos.

Ooooh, there's an idea: Donoreos!

No seriously, that idea sounds awesome. Potentially insta-death due to insulin implosion but awesome.

And yes, congrats on all your reviews, attention, glory, and affection given to you by your many readers*COUGHCHOKEONMYJELOUSYRAGEFESTANDDIE!COUGH*

Hmm, something in my throat. One too many Donoreos perhaps.

Two chocolate donuts with bavarian creme in between...behold, your Donoreo...

EDIT: better yet, some form of fudge pastry...with bits of oreo cookie baked in...

Oh yeah, I definitely read more than I review, altho I try to leave at least one per story (eventually).  Also have the more follows than reviews syndrome.

EDIT: nearly 130 views and no reviews so far on the new story...ah well, I'm still having fun writing it.  Also, I'm looking forward to replaying the series with my stories as the finisher.

If I read, then I review, even if it is the crappy 'I enjoyed that' type review.  Unless the fic really is godawful, in which case I just click away...

There was a discussion on the MEFF forum about 'so bad, it's good' fiction.  Someone pointed out the apparently infamous 'Repercussions of Evil' (Doom2 fic), which is brilliant in it's naive badness.  Are there any classic 'bad' ME fics out there people feel should be shared?

On getting reviews.  I think I was lucky that my musing coincided with the wake of the ME3 ending debarcle.  Lots of people were reading and writing at that time so there seemed to be a lot of through traffic on FFNet and I received regular reviews on earlier work.  As ME becomes more distant in the past, it'll become more and more difficult to grab readers I should imagine as people move onto other things.

I've two long term story projects on the go at the mo and it's becoming hard to stay motivated, particularly as they are both pretty much out of my writing comfort zone.  The reviews have been lack lustre, as has the writing probably.  But I digress...

When it comes to reviews I have to go by my 'rules'. I've been involved in fanfiction in one form or another for a very long time and I've seen far too many excellent stories be left behind due to many valid reasons.
A few years ago, when I had an actual review 'show', I resolved to not read any work until it is completed. This also allows for a more complete and accurate review. So if I don't review it's not because I can or won't but because the work is not finished. Beta Readers (Or prereaders, I'm old school, sue me.) are there for improvement during progression- not that if others wish to review in media res that's somehow a problem.

So.

Yes. I review. Just not often.

Regarding the donoreo idea: Please, do not give Tim Hortons any ideas. They don't need the help. (Personally I would have gone for a vanilla creme filled chocolate donut. Or a Chocolate donut, vanilla frosting, sprinkled with oreo bits - if you really want an overdose)

I'm not sure I've ever read anything that I would call 'so bad it's good' - I've read some bad fanfiction (which I stopped reading shortly thereafter), but nothing so truly horrendous that I would have to point at it and say "Hey Everyone! Come look at this terrible, horrible piece of garbage! BASK IN ITS STANK!!!"

Re: reviews. I started writing my ME fic in the lead-up to ME3 (in anticipation of ME3 I think?) so I benefitted from the month-before month-after deluge of readers. But I think my readership suffered because I'm such an inconsistant writer. I think everyone who follows my story is still reading it, but I don't know that I'm attracting any new readers. It probably doesn't help that I wrote an origin fic in the wake of the clamor for better endings. Apparently my muse is not a sellout. :P

And now QOTD time. Going to change it up a little today - I'm not going to ask about characters!

Today's Question: What do you think was (or will be - if you've planned it but haven't gotten around to writing it yet) the most difficult passage of your story for you to write? What made (or will make) it so difficult?

Dunno about a specific passage, but I had a hard time putting thoughts/feelings into words when some of the characters were going through hard times, particularly the 2 years when Shep was 'dead' and how Liara coped, or not.  It was hard to write because I tried to really throw myself into it when putting fingers to keyboard, how horrible some of the experiences might feel and such like.  I definitely had a period of 'burn out' after it but I think I did well enough.  I've had the odd reader mention genuine tears at some parts, which I'd hoped, so it was worth it I reckon.

Well, FF.net used to host MST's of fanfiction, but got too many angry complaints.  Still, I remember a few choice bad ones from back in the day.  Most often, the best comedy gold comes from "lemon fics," as it takes a real steady hand to maintain quality.

Hell, my first outings were downright cringeworthy.  I read one of my old fics from back in the day...let's just say that if I ever touch it again, the whole thing will need a reworking.

Ooh, you live near a Tim Hortons?  Did you see the "Feed Dump," story where the guy proposed using the "roll up the lid" promo?

QOTD: Oh geez, 2 points then, from my current fic.

1) I wrote this one already: my first battle between Shepard and the Remnant (leftover Reaper husks).  The reason being that a lot of badguy machinations were going to be realized here, and the tone of the rest of these plans would be determined by the actions in these chapters.

Honestly, that's why I waited so long to post.  It's hard to tell if something will pan out until it happens.  It also strikes me as odd that it took 30 chapters for this to happen, talk about a slow burn.  Still having fun though!

2) The finale.  To quote a fave show of mine, "endings are hard...any hack can lift a pen and start writing, but endings are tough..."

Just ask BW, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and Bungie.  Although, looking back on it, it depends on the types of stories written.  Many of my first projects, I had no problems with the endings.  Short stories are the easiest, as they are just a segment in time, with the understanding that more stories await.  Nobody ever complains about Elder Scrolls, for example.

All of them! Every single one!

Though, honestly, it will be trying to encapsulate parts of the Miranda/Shepard relationship (or the aforementioned 'passionate' scene) or broaching the infertility topic, should I dare to go there. I know it's a sensitive subject for a lot of her fans.

Writing in first-person is very tough for getting across certain things, so certain bits of exposition can be tricky. I can't make Miranda all-knowing, but I need to make sure the audience can keep up or don't miss certain things. Hint: look for the bits with 'I suppose...' or 'I guess...' :P

I live in a major city in Canada. I live near MANY Tim Hortons. Seriously. They are everywhere. (For context: in Canada, there are twice as many Tim Hortons outlets are there are McDonalds and Timmies holds 62% of the Canadian coffee market.)

I havn't seen what you're referring to, but that probably ranks among the most Canadian proposals ever. Other contenders would be proposing at a Stanley Cup parade or using the Joe Canada speech somehow.

The Elder Scrolls are an interesting example. I've only played Oblivion and Skyrim so I can't comment on them all - but those two never really end. Trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible, what you get is sort of a 'welp you've saved the world, have fun continuing your adventures'. And then you carry on your merry way. It isn't the same kind of closure that you get from a 'And then the world was saved - now here are some epilogue slides' kind of ending. So maybe nobody ever complains because its difficult to complain about the absence of an ending?

And crap now I'm worried about writing a good ending...

I'm still playing Skyrim... Mods don't half extend the life of a game.  I've dozens of the buggers on the go.  Oh, and come to the Steam Skyrim forum, people are complaining a lot, though admittedly for different reasons, such as the game breaking every time they update, bugs and general game breaking glitches.
