Kill 'em all, I say!

Seriously, though, if I had to kill off someone it would've been someone from the first game to give it some impact and poignance. I mean, those guys had come a long way. Seeing Wrex go from merc to leader of his people and willing to die in some grand way would probably be my pick. Plus, you don't have those pesky romance complications with him...

And a query related to my own writing. Just not sure if Miranda's narration is perhaps too flippant (or any other unforeseen issues). The person speaking here is an ex-Cerberus guy wondering where it all went wrong. And, of course, it's just a first pass. ;)

"How did it come to this?" he muses wistfully. "I mean, I never expected some sort of happy ending. No medals, no victory parades. More likely to wind up dead in some stinking alley on Omega than in a blaze of glory. We knew what we signed up for. I was just glad to be making a difference, you know? But this...did you ever see this happening?"

Now is not the time to bring up the saying about the abyss and battling monsters.

<---- All ready done!  (Plus poor Liara isn't looking too healthy just right now!Posted Image)  I tried to kill Vega but the S.O.B. was too smart! Posted Image

Thing is I wouldn't kill a character off just because I dislike them - I would do it to torture Shepard though. So probably one of the characters that's similar to my Shep (soldier type) so Ash/Vega/Zaeed or...maybe...Miranda Posted Image  No!  Garrus, I'd kill the turian (sorry Vakarian - although I wouldn't worry too much.  I mean if Vega outsmarted me Posted Image)

Although the easiest character to kill off would be Oriana (I used to temp as the Cerberus assassin scheduler in ME3 - my inability to spell names correctly has saved hundreds of lives!Posted Image) but the consequences would be...interesting. Posted Image

edit - I was worrying that I was being a bit too harsh, but after hot_heart's choice Posted Image (Heh, I agree with them) - also, poor Vakarian!  Whatever did the turian do to warrant this (I'd still kill him thoughPosted Image)

Funnily enough I cut a paragraph with Joker saying something similar - but he was more angry about the situation.  I suppose it depends on who the character's talking to, the mood of the room, etc.  As you say, some of the earlier Cerberus (pre-ME3) folks who joined up, knew roughly what they were agreeing to do.  I would suggest though removing the 'you know?' might make a difference in tone/seem less passive (I'm not really explaining it well - sorry! 'Cold calculus of...writing' Posted Image Besides I spelt the name wrong - she wouldn't be in any real danger.  I'd even send KL to make sure she survived - honest! Posted Image

Thanks. The idea is Miranda showing her 'human' side to win over old colleagues so they'll help her strike back at Cerberus. Since they have a bit of history, and it's a break between fierce debate amongst the group, it's meant to be a little more conversational.

Plus, that's how this character speaks, you know? :P

Shoot that character!  Posted Image Valley Girl Syndrome (Like, you know, totally) has no scientifically proven cure or vaccine. Mind you 'Australian question intonation' has been known to suddenly infect folk?  And like, you know, totally, drive other people crazy, like?

Sorry about that! Posted Image

Ha, I never, like, meant for it to sound like valleyspeak, dude. That's totally bogus.

It's just a guy a little unsure of himself, and that sort of speech is common around here. :?
Might help if I separate it out as its own sentence?

I don't dislike any characters enough to WANT them to die, but in case of Jacob, I wouldn't notice he was gone.  Hell, I think it'd only remove 2 scenes from my entire fic and oneshots lol.

I think the problem is in my head.  Opening with "How did it come to this?" just reminds me of Bernard Hill's King Theoden from LOTR. Posted Image  Which makes it difficult to mesh with adding 'you know' at the end of a sentence.  That's just how I'm imagining the character right now and I'm guessing I'm way off target here!  I think what you've got works - I'm just having difficulties seeing the character and not my preconceptions.  (My fault Posted Image- not yours! Posted Image)

Let me get some sleep on it - sorry!

No, no, it's useful to hear stuff like this! I think you may have a point as well. Even without the context, character should come through in the dialogue. I was already veering away from him sounding as severe as Miranda and that bit probably needs tweaking, so thanks!

Mwahahaahaaha. You all answered the favorite character question how I guessed you would. (except for you stoob! Curse you! I wasn't expecting the Samara bit.). Anyways, this has been useful in creating your psychological profiles and the government has decided you must be purged. Please do not run from the men in suits. Just kidding.
Oh, before today's question, Hotheart, agree with you there on the characters.
Now, the question of the day. If you were given a temp job as a writer at Bioware to work on a remake of ME3, but were told you had to kill off at least one of the main side characters, who would you kill? Personally, I would kill Liara in a rain of nuclear fire.

Would try to avoid cheap deaths, as I use character deaths like I use grenades in shooters...sparingly (unless playing Grenadier class in ME3 MP).  Those are like the un-retractable nukes, and I try to expend them to maximum effect.

Still, I would kill...

1) JACOB
2) ASHLEY (doubly so if romanced...while Shep makes out with 2nd LI)
3) Vega
4) Kaidan
5) Jacob
4) Kasumi
5) Zaeed
6) Ashley (unromanced? hmm...I'm sure I can pour salt in the wound somehow before killing her...)
7) Grunt
8) Legion
9) Jacob

Oh, did I mention Jacob?  How about Ashley?  Because I'd kill them...hard.  I'd go so far as to defy my own rule and give them ignoble deaths.

I'd give Vega a decent, heroic death, because he deserves it (but little else).  Kaidan and the rest would go out like champs.

HONORABLE MENTION:  If, for some reason, Morinth is alive...give her a climactic death!  The way her and Jack's deaths were handled are quite poor.  Considering the drama potential, I'd even call these deaths a disservice.

Wow, so many Garrus killers! Who would make all the witty remarks and calibrations?!

Honestly, I wouldn't want to kill any of the characters. They all play their part and have potential (even if the writers didn't utilize it). One of the less interesting characters to me was Jacob - really feel like he could have used something other than daddy issues for conflict.

As far as who could go out best in a blaze of glory, I wouldn't want to kill them off, but I think they'd be:

1) Zaeed - you'd know he'd find a way to blow a crater in a troop of enemies and bring the pain if he was going to go out
2) Ashley - she'd want to do her family proud and complete the mission/take as many baddies with her as possible
3) Aria - they'd need to start a few new funeral businesses to keep up with the numbers she'd take out with her

You new, Blue  Moon, or have I just never noticed you. Like your options for who you'd kill off. Everyone has been going for the squaddies. Nice to see someone else get offed. And, I was thinking about it, and I'd also kill off Kelly, Councilor Sparatus(the turian one) and Sha'ira.

Blue's been around a few times.

I figured we were just talking about squaddies.  If we go with other NPC's...I'll always kill off Toombs, and all but one of the Council.  Also, the news reporters...ALL OF THEM DIE!!!  Alas, Emily Wong, the lone one I'd save, already died on BW's twitter feed...such a wasteful way to accomplish it, when that quote has such dramatic potential...

"How does a human die?  At ramming speed!"

Frequent thread reader, rare poster.  I asked for advice a couple of weeks back on my fic and am now giving it a once-over before submitting (spelling, grammar, in-character(ness?), and level of boring, lol), so not posting as much.  This is, however, still one of my favorite threads to read. :)

With you on the reporters - disliked the random kill-offs of Kal'Reegar (not a reporter, but still!) and Emily Wong.  They needed to have a reporters' convention somewhere during ME3 and get hit by the Reapers, who'd leave behind a nice note: "We may be killing off everybody in the galaxy, but no one should be subjected to this ****! @#$%&!"

While we're on non-squaddies, how about the many interesting ways Admiral Xen could get offed?

Hm. Hindsight being a wonderful thing, I have killed off characters (in AU oneshots) that I love. Liara's died more than once so far, and she's my #1 (regardless of the Samara thing), Probably because I know I can write it better when it matters to me too. I did one where Javik heads to the place where he killed his squad so he can return to the void and leave our strange parallel universe where the primitives rule the galaxy. Liara goes with. I'm sure you can work out the end.
Sorry all, it was on her own terms. :P

I've not bumped into anyone I know on MP, not that I run with a mic anyway.  I'm PC (master race) myself... hehe.  I know it'd be stupid, and I'd probably get overexcited but being unable to speak, go on a dodge frenzy instead.  Sometimes, I am still twelve. lol

i'm a console girl when it comes to games. my computer is waaaaaay too old to run most decent games. and sadly I was joking with the grenade thing. I haven't played ME3 multiplayer in like eight months, since my xbox gold membership lapsed. but I was always a grenade freak in that game! if I had any grenades, I threw them at anything that moved! even teammates! *grins* of course, me on a mic during the game would either be incredibly annoying or distractingly funny I think.

"oh no! oh nononono! phantom! eeee! phantom! help! help! wah! she got me... *medigel* help! she's still here! ohmygodohmygodohmygod... no! no! she'll stab me! helphelphelp! i'm down again! *medigel* help!!!"

You know, Stoob, that got me thinking. I've done stuff on PC and most consoles from the original playstation to the 360 and PS3 era, and I have to say, that overall pc is not as superior as most pc gamers would tell you. The main advantage is the hardware isn't seven years old, and mods. While consoles have ease of use.
Anyways, time for the question of the day. In the vein of my previous question, if Bioware hired you to rewrite ME3, how much would you change the base plot of the game.(you know, reapers coming to kill us all, build crucible before they can murder us.)
Personally, I'd start it out a bit further back to help give us a fighting chance. And, I would do the genophage cure section largely unchanged, except for the STG sabotage bit. I would have the quarians attack the geth before the reapers show up, and Tali/Legion will get Shep's help to resolve the conflict. I'll also remove the Crucible entirely, but just give us some tech that gives us an edge against the reapers. then, the conflict will start out in batarian space, and will kinda involve guerrila tactics. Anyways, that's all I'm gonna say to avoid any more spoilers for Meus Mundus.

My reaction after getting insta-killed by a phantom, "THIS IS ****ING BULL****! THEY SHOULDN'T GIVE ENEMIES A ****ING INSTA-KILL ATTACK THAT THERE IS NO WARNING FOR AND NO WAY TO COUNTER OTHER THAN JUST STAYING THE **** AWAY. **** THIS ****! WHOEVER THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA RAPES PENGUINS!"
Then, after it happens at the beginning of next wave. "Sigh. Guess I'll go play some ds while I wait."
Then, when it happens at the beginning of next wave after that. "RAGE QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I'm not very patient. I've rage quit at the beginning of Soul Calibur matches when the enemy blocks my 'unblockable' attacks. Stupid ****ing abyss.

That was the bit that Microsoft nearly ****ed up on: ease of use.  They tried to make a console as limited as the PC with regards to DRM and portability, and thankfully it backfired good and proper.  But, you know, I love my system, my Skyrim looks ****ing stunning at times, something that could never be said of current gen consoles.  Yes, as many say when they argue against ENBs, "But it looks fine without all that".  Yes, it does, but it doesn't look ****ing stunning!

We'll see on the next gen consoles.  I believe they're looking to methods of providing mods for the console market.  My main concern is Steam's recently throwing their hat into the ring.  I hope they don't plan to abandon the PC market long term.
