thanks for the well wishes, Ser Stoob. *smiles* my sister thinks I have an infected tooth somewhere because of the swelling. so if she' right, when I do see the dentist, all he'll be able to do is prescribe an antibiotic or something and set another appointment for after it clears. I hope she's wrong because I was hoping to actually enjoy my Christmas dinner! oh, and alcohol is not my friend! I don't handle it well.

I was hoping to get some writing done today... but every time I get on here I just feel... *frowns* just bleh about writing. so I'm back to reading again.

but since I'm here... *waves again* hi everyone!

awww... top post again and I have nothing finished that I could leave as a quote. I'm a useless failure of a top poster! *presses hands together* forgive me!

Here's some Xmas silliness, even if I'm not at the top, for which there is no rule anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it, Yuri.

...

While Ashley and Shepard set the Christmas dinner table in the Normandy's mess, Tali marches in and stands evidently irate, with some spray snow in the corner of her visor.

“Joker insisted.” she says. “He said it'd really offend his religion and the spirit of the season if I didn't agree. I mean, what was I supposed to say?”

Shepard splutters laughter out having contained herself until now.

“What?” Tali shouts. “I thought it was tradition!”

“Joker's winding you up!”

“What?! Why the... Back in a minute.” Tali says, then marches off again.

“Happy merry!” Garrus shouts as he walks into the mess.

Ashley sighs.

“Almost, Garrus. Nice effort, anyway.” Shepard patronisingly says.

“Merry happy?”

A hand now comes up to Ashley's nose.

“I got it!” Garrus shouts, “Merry new year!”

“Close enough.” Ashley concedes with a heavy sigh.

Aaaaaanyway... this concept amused me, for those who've played Bioshock Infinite:

@Ignis Mors: Games as art is always a cool idea. I sadly missed the Smithsonian opening. I'm of the opinion that games don't need justification, but such steps are still encouraging.

As for X-Formers, I generally just consider it a popcorn flick now.  If I go in with zero expectation, I am less likely to get burned.  Sadly, this is also a position I will be trying to take with Man of Steel 2 (though I likely won't be able to fool myself into doing it, and be disappointed anyway).

@ Stoob: awesome pic! I always love seeing crossover art.

So, it took me a while of thinking/searching the internet for ideas, and I finally got one for a question of the day. And here it is. Do you have a line/soundtrack/moment in gaming that just gives you goosebumps and gets you hyped up for other stuff?
Now, I can think of two things that fit this category for myself. The first, in fitting with my massive Transformers fan-boyism, is in Revenge of the Fallen(I actually think some of the things that people said make no sense in it, make sense in comparison with the entire multi-verse's lore regarding death and the allspark. Might give you more on that later.),  when Optimus says, "You'll never stop at one, I'll take you all on!" When I see that fight, or hear that line and music, it just gets me psyched. Til Prime dies, then I'm like "NOOO! OPTIMUS!" and I start to weep uncontrollably for the rest of the movie until he comes back. (Joking. It would be a bit more effective if that wasn't one of SIXTEEN times Optimus gets fatally wounded.
And, the Suicide Mission from Mass Effect 2. It always leaves me feeling satisfied with what I'd just played. (Wish 3 had been able to do that too. Stupid F***ing Star Child. Getting your bs in my mass effect.
(Oh, and in a bit I'll put something regarding ROTF in my FF.net account-read-thingamajig. It'll be my explosion for some of the illogical stuff in that movie.[shockwave did not approve of those things.])

So, I'm going to be retitling my main Mass Effect fanfic from the god awful Meus Mundus. ( I really regret that title. But, I was dead tired, and just chose something that semi-fit what it was.) Anyways, that's beside the point. I have a couple of working titles, and was wondering which one you guys thought sounded better. I think both fit the story pretty well.
1: The Story of Shepard.
2: Shepard's War.
Let me know what you think, and if you have any title ideas of your own, please let me know. I just really want to fix that title. It bugs me.

I always liked Meus Mundus myself.

In recent gaming moments, Bioshock Infinite, escaping the tower with Elizabeth. Falling from the tower with Liz to ride the rail, that was balls to the wall, seat of your pants, tribal hammer hitting metal banging, excitement!

If you haven't played it (and don't care about spoilers), here's the scene with build up:

Works on several levels that one.  For the record, not my work. :)

As for your epic music question, I'd say the ME2 Suicide Mission Theme got my blood pumping.  I'd say the final run on the original Halo did the same.  It was as much the situation, as the music that was occuring, but I'd associate the two and it'd be just as epic for me out of context.

Similar events also happened in certain other games, but either the songs weren't as memorable out of context, or I overplayed it and wore the songs out.

EDIT: Must also add the violin solo from Scheherazade...man, I get goosebumps everytime I hear it...

As for the name of your story, I also like the Latin title, as it's something different.  It's unique, and there are likely more titles like "Shepard's War" than "Meus Mundus."  Although, I can't deny that a lot of us use Latin to spice up the title as well sometimes.

Speaking as an author who sucks at titles as well, I generally gauge whether I will read off the synopsis, rather than the title.  However, of the two you provided, I prefer #2.

Wow, I never thought that people liked the title of Meus Mundus. I always thought that people thought it sounded bad. So, seeing the unanimous(at least so far) liking of the current title, I'll stick with what I've got. Thanks for the input!:D

I think titles should have a touch of enigma about them.

@YurigirlzCrush - I hope your trip to the dentist went well! Posted Image

On the subject of title/synopsis - well I'm poor at both (but at least I'm consistent)  Posted Image

Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows if ME/ME2 ever mention how new Councillors are selected? Just I have Brooks calling them an "unelected little clique" then I started worrying. Posted Image

@MrStoob - Bovril it is! Also been a while since I'd seen mention of HMS Birkenhead (for some strange reason I though she, like HMS Thetis, went down in the bay - not sure why  Posted Image)

Good to hear at least the pain has subsided for the festive season, Yuri. Just be careful with the sixpence in the Christmas pud. ^^

Merry happy, all.

Happy Holidays to everyone. Still without a computer, since it was more important to spend my money on gifts for my kids than for me. But since I have access to my brother's computer and internet at his house at the moment, it seemed a good time to drop in and say hello. Also, in case any of the people from the fanfic list happen to read this thread, I updated the list. All submissions are now current.

I wish you all the happiest of holidays, and a Happy New Year as well, since I find it unlikely I'll be able to use a computer again before then. Enjoy the season. I know I am. Posted Image

Edit: The wizard hat is the closest thing to a Santa hat in that collection of smilies down there... Humbug, Bioware. Posted Image

Hrm. I just checked a few minutes ago and it works for me. They might have been doing a little maintenance, or might have had a little issue. :P

I had that problem for three quarters of yesterday. Just wait it out, I think it's server overload or something. So, just wait a few hours and you should be able to get on.

*cheers* hooray! it's back! must have been some sort of server issue, I guess. but at least it's back now.

so now a question that's on topic! *grins* what are everyone's thoughts on sections from the perspectives of the bad guys? I don't want to give away too much, and I'm not sure I could sell the bad guys as being both bad and realistic (since I'm not a mean person by nature and I don't know if I could really sell their villainy as both necessary and believable).

but I've been thinking some sections I have in my story for providing certain bits of info might be better if I rewrote them from the side of the bad guys instead. it would mix things up a bit and maybe I could sprinkle at least hints of the villains and their motives into the early parts of the story. so I wanted to find out other people's thoughts on sections from villain perspective and any particular traps to avoid in them.

I don’t see anything particularly wrong or ill-advised about writing from their perspective… so long as the writing works :) The twin traps are to either paint things too black and white, or to go too ambiguously gray. Personally, I also avoid writing from the perspective of a character who dies, but that is more a personal hang-up with the nature of death than anything else…

Also that assumes I’ll ever manage to write anything again.

Yuri, I'll make a suggestion. Take the sociopath out for test drive. Have some fun with the character and get to know the character. Play with the character. Remember from the character's point of view that the character is the protagonist in THEIR story. Figure out how to make the reader really care about the character -- you know, be interested in them. Make the character compelling. Sociopaths can be very compelling characters, and they can be far more fascinating than your goody two shoes character who is trying to right the wrongs of the galaxy. Write them like you would any other character. Drop obstacles in the way of them accomplishing their goals.

If you want to see how to write some particularly believable and nasty characters, I'd suggest reading some John Grisham novels. He writes some very nasty and realistic characters. They can get downright creepy at times because you might stop and think, "Hmmm, I know someone like that."

Even a morally gray character can be made compelling. A character doesn't have to be liked to be compelling.
