I have a question for all you guys. I had a great story going on, I had the outline and everything going for it. But ME3 have still left a sour taste in my mouth, I can't get over how angry everything in that game has made me feel. I've lost the will to write, I've haven't touched my story in about a year now, and my subscribers keep messaging me to update, or when will I update. But each time I'm about to try to go on with the next chapter, I find myself unable to, because of what happened in ME3. ME3 has ultimately ruined my will to write and to read other fan-fictions in general. I hate it. I would just like to finish my story, or atleast post another chapter.

I guess I'm just asking for advice, instead of asking a question. So do you guys have any? Thanks in advance, I might not log back on for awhile.  :)

Delete it.

I mean, copy all the text and paste it somewhere first, if you truly feel like it's well-written and not something you want to write all over again if you ever find the will to write. I'm just getting the sense that having this unfinished story and followers asking you to continue is a black cloud over your head.

If so, remove your work entirely from wherever you have it published. Then go explore other games/fiction, clear your head from Mass Effect (if you've already tried this and still don't feel motivated, then it's just not time to return yet). One of two things will happen: (1) you'll eventually get the itch to come back and write again; (2) you won't get that itch for a very long time, and ultimately realize you're just "done" with Mass Effect and move on for good. Either way, I say get the monkey off your back.

Maybe those hyphens are supposed to be dashes - that would make more sense!  The internet is not always dash friendly  :?

Don't really matter what it is for the sake of the 'poser'.  Could have been asterisks or daggers, or whatever you fancy.

I'm the opposite. ME3 made me so angry, I want to write.  A different outcome, a different future. I ignored the last quarter of the game, all the ME3 DLCs except From Ashes and went my own way. Since I'm writing post RW, I don't really think very much of ME3.

Yes, it made me want to write a different outcome and a different future for Shep and Miranda.  I guess it can be consider "AU" but I pretty much stick to what happened in ME1 and ME2.  Not sure about ME3 just yet.  There are parts I like from the game but Shepard was so DAMN lonely without Miranda!  The Citadel DLC did help a lot!  I love that DLC because it was character focused!  The party banter was the best!

Anyways, I been writing the next chapter and it's shaping up each time I work on it.  I probably could have saved myself a lot of trouble if I had the plot point resolved in the last chapter but oh well!    It will be resolved in the next, I'm hoping.   I'm nearing the end of this story thus why I am probably stalling.  A few more chapters!  :P

Then comes ME3.  Eep...

Confession:  I'm probably really bad about writing in past and present.  I like to write what they are actually doing now... but then sometimes slip into the past tense.  I had one comment about my story being somewhat jarring?  Unimaginable at times.  Or it flows smooth as honey.  I wish every chapter flowed smoothly!

I've noticed that with your writing. Scripts are in present tense...which also probably explains my initial mix-up.

This is more a of a vent than anything else - sorry!

Ever written a chapter that just kept trying to end itself?  I mean you write up to a certain point which would make a fine exit, but you still have events you want to include - and you just can't seem to link them into the current chapter.  Anyway that's what I've gone and done to myself and I'm now somewhat...irritated.  <_<

Vent over.  I'll stop procrastinating now and go back to trying to fix this mess I'm in.

p.s.  Citadel DLC, that party is pretty much my sole reason for ever touching ME3 ever again! (Repetition for emphasis and not because I goofed!  Honest!  :?

I can't say I've had that exact problem, but I've had similar moments where I get to the end and realise, "I forgot to include that bit I really wanted!" and then have to try and fit it in without ruining the flow. More often than not, it's simply a piece of narration with some extra insight or a wry aside, so it tends to 'slot in' without too much hassle, fortunately.

I can't see an easy fix for your problem, I'm afraid. Is it all related to the same characters or is it other events that are supposed to tie in? Any way to condense them somehow or simply cover them later on when they become relevant again?

Yeah, I've had that problem a couple of times.  I usually just stopped typing, saved it, then went back to it later.  It usually works, but sometimes it takes a couple times before I get everything down.

To be honest (novel idea) I think it's more a case of me panicking (again  <_<) as deadline time is here once more.

@hot_heart:  I had hoped to finish off some events on the Citadel before moving on, but I think I'm going to have to stay 'put' for another chapter - and then move on to the next planet.

On another note; volus  :pinched:!  I've probably gone over-kill on my ellipses whilst writing Barla Von's dialogue!

“It will take…time,” the volus responded, “Cerberus is good…at hiding…itself.”

I just did the volus dialogue as I'd do any other, apart from when Elnora the Mercenary mocks the Biotic God when she meets Shepard again (I tied her in to the Eclipse Sisters that Aethyta 'gifts' to Liara).

"I needed to earn my uniform. It would have only been some other son of a ****** if not him. Besides, him and that Pitne For sold us bad red sand." Elnora attempts to defend herself.

"Which you then proceeded to pump into poor Niftu Cal. If we weren't there, he would have wandered into Wasea's lair to his death."

"That was soooo funny! He really thought he was some kind of biotic god. His rantings were hilarious. 'Like a – psshhht – reaping wind!' Ha!"

"The Asari is in the next room.... I shall toss Wasea about.... like a rag doll."

"Cheers."

".... After me!"

Jack: "That was mean, Shepard. Funny, but mean."

^ lol I frickin love the way he says "After me!" Or, if you go the Paragon route and tell him to chill: "Are you mad??"

Funny thing, though. I needed an Infiltrator-type character for my story, so I've created an OC Volus to fill that role.

His name is Ninju Mats. icon_mrhappy.gif

Dat Ending: Well, I just played ME3 with the MEHEM and Citadel Epilogue MODS installed.  The "canon" is so malleable at this point, in my mind, that I don't let the "official" ending perturb me anymore.  In fact, I started writing my Mass Effect fanfics in response to the ending.

My confession: I think I'll be taking a break from my next ME fanfic, focusing more on the other story.  It'll still take me a while to post the recently finished work, and I'll still be poking away at the current ME story idea.  Quite frankly, the cumbersome nature of this proposed story is the source of my procrastination, whereas the non-ME fanfic is pretty much all planned out.

Well, I decided to try my hand at doing a one-shot... and I think I did pretty good with it.  Not sure if I'll do another one-shot, but the one I just did focuses on my favorite character, Darrian Tabris (DA), and I'm fairly proud of myself for doing it.   :)

Off topic:  I just got my SAT scores from the beginning of the month.  I have to say, I'm satisfied with my math and writing scores, though my critical reading score could use some work.  I did great with the multiple choice, but I bombed the essay... though, granted, I suck at essays.   <_<  Anyway, the math section and writing section were pretty easy, though I'm really good at math and typing my fanfics has improved my writing skills.   ^_^

Anyway, I just felt the need to tell someone, so there it is.

My latest chapter is creeping towards the 9k words mark and nearly done, looking to be close to if not pass the most I've ever done.

I am not looking forward to editing this beast, seeing as it's been worked on in pieces and I'll probably discover a whole mess of repetition or sheer disjointedness. But I think I shall enjoy the chapters after that...

p.s. new dark theme for the forum, yay.

Felt like doing a status update on my main fanfic, The Last of the Fereldan Wardens.  Here it is:

Words: Almost 42,000

Chapters: 15

Followers: 25

Favorites: 12

Reviews: 25

Total Views: 4,209

Honestly, I think this story is doing pretty well.   :)

Who turned down the lights - now I have to take off my sunglasses!  (Seriously beta dark theme so much better than the 'holy'  :P default!)

@Gamer072196:  Not sure what SAT scores are - but at least you seem happy with them so, congratulations!  :)

@hot_heart:  Looking forward to reading it (9k?  Better make sure I've got nothing else planned that day)

On an editing note.  Do folk here usually complete a section/chapter/story - and then review the whole shebang or do you keep revising as you type?  Asking because I think I need to improve my proof-reading but seriously up my speed.  <_<

I do a bit of both. I try and get it to a reasonable standard as I go, just so I'm happy that I've got the essence of it down. Then I go through the whole thing afterwards and tidy it up...which takes a long time.

Currently, I'm getting all the 'action' down to a reasonable degree, then adding in more of the flavour and scene-setting.

Of course, I'm not a very good example for speed...

Editing: I'm going through my story with a program called Smart Edit. There's a free version called "Smart Edit Lite" and a pro version that is only $57. I love it. It shows you how many times you use certain words. Your adverb usage. You can edit directly in the program or do what I do and copy and paste and do your editing in MS Word.

For example I found I use "actually" too often. It sticks out even though 25 occurrences over 137000 words might not seem much. You can see which sentences in which you used them and go through them that way by doing a find in MS Word, and look to see if there's a better replacement. Also I found I use "really" way too often, so I handled that today. That's another word that will stand out to readers. Many times the word can simply be deleted if it is in narrative, and sometimes during conversation unless its usage is part of that character.

It tallied up the number of swear words, and I'm in the Game of Thrones category. Never in the narrative, however.

It will also help you find cliches. Misidentified words like it's and its. all ready or already. tautologies.

The program won't help you find stuff like plot holes and ass pulls, but it can help you better structure your sentences.

@sH0tgUn jUliA:  I'll have a gander at the free version, see what it's like.  Unfortunately dropping around £40 on something is a bit of an investment these days  -_-

Returns from the dark parts of the internet where the let's plays, podcasts, and a never-ending loop of Amnesia by Miracle of Sound dwell(I need help to break free of that song. Always listening to it. Always. Always. Can't stop listening to it.) sees the conversation, and scratches his head.

Anyways, sigh, I'm having difficulties. My ME fanfics I don't feel like writing very much. In Crucible Effect I just want to do a timeskip so that I have some cool stuff going on, that is a lot more interesting, but I feel like two timeskips in less than twenty chapters(Large ones. Like jumping weeks at a time, not for travel time.) is enough. And, in Meus Mundus I've had the Normandy crew on vacation for the last eight chapters, and now I'm bored. I know that the next chapter is going to be Lair of the Shadow Broker(With the death of Liara! YAY! No more creepy blue person who somehow bugged the game into thinking I was romancing her instead of Miri.) but I'm still bored with it. And, I'm having a ton of fun writing my Star Wars fanfic. So, I get the Beyond the Light and the Dark chapter's written in two days and it's like a month before I get back to it. :-( So, I'm unsure of what to do. Do I put Crucible Effect and Meus Mundus on hiatus until I feel the urge to write them again. Or do I just man up and write them more quickly?

Oh, and @fatiguesdualism, I'd say you have mastered the art of keeping things vague. Albeit, in unquiet night, at the end of the first bit did you have Miranda stab Shepard? That bit I'm confused by.

I review a paragraph once it's complete, then give the chapter a complete once over. I don't use any programs or beta readers, only my eyes. I'll miss errors now and then. I  published, then read it again, I usually spot the ones I missed and correct them within the day or the next. But I doubt I scooped up every mistake.

@Ignis Mors

I feel the same way about my ME fic, Keep Running.  I haven't touched it in about a month, I think.  I have chapter 9 started, but I haven't been able to get much further.  I'm way more interested in typing my DA fanfics (specifically TLFW and A Warden's Letters along with my SI fanfic).  I have forced myself to try to type more for Keep Running, but I can't seem to get much of it done.   :?

I guess my advice would be to try to type a bit at a time.  Either that, or put your stories on hiatus.  * shrugs *
