Ha! A fellow Fighting Fantasy fanatic?
Best one? Toss up between Deathtrap Dungeon and Citadel of Chaos for me, though they were all generally good (that said, I wasn't a huge fan of Hell House).
I met Ken Rolston ('Paranoia' RPG writer), Steve Jackson and Ian Livingston at Liverpool's GamesWorkshop grand opening and got a few things signed. Me and a few friends were there from 3am to ensure a full RPG for just a quid, I believe I went for Call of Cthulu, which we used to play in the dingy water loft for added spookiness.
But no, dunno anything about Choice of Games.
Huh, sounds like a choose-your-own-adventure novel. I loved those growing up (probably why my multipath ME fanfic was so relatively easy to write). I've played a few PC versions, my favorites being the ones that dynamically change (something you can't get in print). However, I have yet to play any of these particular games, and may have to give them a go when classes free up!

Ugh, the DA:I forums are ridiculous, and it's only getting worse the closer it gets to DA:I's launch. Everyone is finding something to complain about; whether it is the LIs, the companions, the advisers, the controls, the graphics, the companions' looks, the lack of non-human Inquisitors being shown in the trailers, the balancing of the romances, and so many other things I'm not even going to bother mentioning. And that's without even getting started on the complaints about the MP. Seriously, I must be a masochist because I still check out the Scuttlebutt and Story, Campaign, and Characters forums. Not to mention that every single group has a support thread except the elves simply because of the ADB and the f'ing Clique. Seriously, I don't even know why I bother anymore. There's hate all over the place, flame wars galore, whining in abundance, and so much overall negativity that BSN seems like the worst place to be right now.
The trolls are having a field day with all of this chaos, threads are getting locked, more threads are popping up with complaints and whining, there are spoilers popping up (not that I really care about spoilers), and there are so many arguments that I've given up on trying to keep track of them all. The only forum in all the DA:I forums that seems to be safe and fairly positive is the MP Combat Strategy forum, but it's fairly empty atm compared to the rest of the DA:I forums. I haven't been looking at the Keep beta forums (got into the Keep a month or 2 ago), but I'd assume that they're better than the rest of BSN atm. But since they're all about the Keep, I don't really have much reason to look at them, anyway.
* sighs again *
Sorry, I just needed to vent a bit. I know this is way off-topic, but I needed to get this off my chest. Sorry again if I just make the whole thread feel depressing.
I have to remind myself of how I originally came to these forums in the first place...the ME3 ending fiasco. You want to talk about toxic forums? Man...
To be fair, there was still plenty of interesting and worthwhile conversations to be had, but 30-50% was trollbait. Unfortunately, a few of the choices EA and BW made have burned bridges with quite a few people, many of whom remain inconsolable regardless of redress. I wouldn't let myself get too worked up over it. I recall one thread where I realized I was getting roped into an angry debate.
I extricated myself from the argument. It galled a bit to know that the other person was probably going to "get the last word," but then I realized that it didn't really matter. The only place I "lost face" was in the eyes of some jackass who I couldn't care less about. I will reiterate something I stated back when a bit of snipiness was almost starting to occur on this thread...
I come here to vent, to engage in healthy conversation, but most of all TO HAVE FUN. If I am stressing out over a damn forum post on a recreational website, the entire exercise has failed, and I have utterly missed the point of coming here in the first place. That isn't to say I can't be passionate about something, but the minute it goes from a spirited debate to a heated argument, it is time to disengage...I get enough of that nonsense in my regular life.
There's a reason why I come back to this particular thread. Indeed, it is currently the only one I actively engage in!
As for DA: Inquisition...I will reserve judgement for that. I am trying not to have too high hopes for it. I won't lie, I am still gun-shy after what happened with DA2 and ME3...but I am cautiously optimistic. Will it be well-produced? Will it have engaging story? Will it have varied characters? The answers to all of these in an unequivocal "YES!" The more important question, then, is "to what degree?"
The catch is that we have come to expect more than greatness from BW, we demand an immaculate product that will rock our socks off (which is a testament to the minds at BW in the first place). It isn't for me to say what will happen, but what's currently known about the game is more than enough. I've played and enjoyed games imbued with far less devotion, care, and pedigree. But again, it's a question of degrees. I am curbing my enthusiasm, in the hopes that it does engage me in a way I haven't felt since Skyrim or Witcher 2. If I expect the 2nd Coming, I am in for disappointment. To be fair, my expectations for ME3 may have been...inflated...but no more so than a 5 year investment is due!
Incidentally, my previous video card purchase ensures me 3 free game codes, so I am hoping DA: Inquisition is on the list. If so, I will have paid off the game already when I bought the AMD Radeon, which I am totally okay with! Still adamantly against installing Origin though, so I am hoping the code is either Steam or Direct-2-Drive.
Further incidentally, I imagine a free game voucher for Inquisition is likely to improve my rating of the game, lol! Now if only Witcher 3 makes it to that list...I will have all my PC game purchases pretty well squared away, and still have one left over!
