Hah, yeah, preorders are anathema to me as well, usually. Very few times that I've succumbed to the temptation, but CDPR has stock build up with me. Of course, the first time they screw it up, they are dead to me as well, lol!

Well we haven't had one for a while, and I missed top post so...
...
Miranda's and her operative Charlotte discover a further ancient Prothean facility, as directed by the Shadow Broker, Liara.
Behind them a whooshing sound announces the barrier curtain blocking the exit of this side area.
“Oh. Great.” Miranda says, “Stuck in this tomb for all eternity...”
A panel at the far end of the room lights up and a disfigured hologram appears. After a few garbled sounds, it speaks.
“I am Sentinel, avatar for the Prothean Empire. Assessing galactic time line... error. Post-cycle continuation... Congratulations.”
“Hm. Thanks.” Miranda says, then turns to Charlotte. “Seems to be like Vigil or Vendetta. So, 'Sentinel', what is the purpose of this facility?”
“This facility housed two hundred thousand Prothean warriors, to be awoken when the Reapers return.”
“Oh. So... what went wrong?”
“Provision for this facility was made in haste. As time went on, I was required to de-activate the pods of tertiary support workers, until eventually all pods were offline.”
“So there's just you now?”
“One Prothean remains.”
“One's still alive?”
“Yes.”
“So how was this singular Prothean supposed to help? Not that the Reapers return made you wake them anyway.”
“Continuation of the Prothean Empire. Once the Reapers have been dealt with, I will activate the last Prothean that we may outlast the Reapers, once and for all.”
“The Reapers are defeated...”
“And I have awoken the last Prothean.”
“What? You've just... ugh. Liara's not going to be happy about this... so where are they?”
“She will report here once the effects of stasis have abated.”
“She? Hm. Javik might be more happy about this than Liara.”
“Javik?” Sentinal asks. “Javik T'Husta?”
“Oh. I don't know his last name. But yea, he's the one from Eden Prime.”
“Then our Emperor may still live.”
“Emperor...? Javik, the sly old dog! He kept that one quiet!”

Interesting snippet! How far along are you in that story?
Personally, I've never been able to do much with Javik, which happens when I dislike a character, lol! In "Paladins," the most fun I had was giving him a conversation with an "Awakened" Collector, and exploring that relationship.
As for "Janus," the disliked character that I took on board was Vega...actually gave him quite a few hero chapters (though I could only stomach him in the 3 he was in, haha)! It sort of lets me make the character my own, and challenges me to find something to work with in each of them.

This was one of those 'didn't really go anywhere' bits for a post-war episodic fiction 'Hunters' that pretty much halted; Miranda sets up an ops group to wipe out Cerberus remnants. The first couple of chapts were quite nice but like I said, it didn't really go anywhere in the end. I didn't really have much to say on Javik for my main trilogy either, he's mentioned in reference to in-game incidents but doesn't appear; Shep and Liara discuss whether all Protheans were like Javik, or perhaps he's just an officious ass even to his fellow Protheans. I did have a pair of interesting asari who were experimented on by Cerberus to be permanently 'joined' to boost potential in the hope of creating mobile indoctrination beacons through them and they cannot cope without each other, and a crew of general misfits much to Miranda's chagrin. TBH, for that bit, I was toying with whether Sentinal might sound the alarm, "Indoctrinated presence detected.", as perhaps Miranda didn't get away 'Scott free' from her former master. Without the Reapers around, she could have it dormant within her but what impact would it make on her? And so on.
I actually found writing for Vega quite fun in the end, making the most of the humorous sides of his character and his pride in his physique.

Well, I finally finished posting "Project Janus!" I might go back and edit things a bit, and port it over to Ao3. I'll also have to upload the full PDF at some point, but it's finally all posted!
And now...to go pass out from sleep deprivation...only to wake up in a few hours when Witcher 3 goes live, hahaha!

*ties on her apron, begins dusting* the nekomimi would be especially appropriate for the nonsensical complaint that's incoming, but I've been chewed on by a dog enough tonight. this is off-topic and probably will make sense to no one except possibly Seracen. but I just have to say (mostly because this thread has been vacant for four days) the following:
*deep breath*
this werewolf is bullshit!
my stupid silver sword does like 140 dps! once the thing is half-dead it starts regenerating 60hp per second. sounds like a fight I could win, but it's un-effing-winnable! it can kill me in like six hits, so I can't sustain that sort of dps! I have to dodge. I have to heal. it keeps running away when I actually make headway! this stupid werewolf is supposed to be a challenge equal to my level (7) but this stupid thing is unkillable. I got it down to one third. that's the best I've done in eleven tries. I used to think werewolves were cool. not anymore. now I hate them more than real-life spiders!
*grins* okay. not exaggerating about the number of failures, but I'm not actually upset. I know I can just go do other stuff and come back in a level or two. I mostly just wanted to put some life in this thread, say hello to everyone, and mention that I'm enjoying Witcher 3 so far, minus the stupid werewolf. I didn't even have to play the previous games to get into it, so I'd even go so far as to recommend it to RPG fans. I'm sure I'm missing out on some subtle connections to previous games, but I haven't once felt lost because of my lack of knowledge from the previous games. and as an aside, I would actually love a multiplayer mode not for the game itself, but just to play the in-game card game, Gwent! that's fun! I'd totally play that vs. other people (as long as they didn't try some stupid cash grab like making people pay to get the cards... I'd just want to use the cards unlocked in single-player)..
but off-topic silliness aside, the main point of me deciding to post tonight is this: hello to you all! I hope everyone is having a great weekend. *waves*

Anyway sorry for the silence, haven't had much free time recently, plus what I have managed to write left me feeling down. I'm humming and hawwing about changing how things play out...but it kind of feels 'wrong' like I'm cheating somehow, by changing things.

On a writing front, I've started making progress but it looks as if this chapter is going to be really choppy (ie lots of short scenes) as Shepard finally gets a chance to be 'bad-ass' (and not my usual punching bag!)

With all the Skyrim modding I'm doing at the mo, I've finally got into writing the sequel to my fic 'Road to Breezehome'. I've gone a bit more... suggestive (crude? hehe) in this one, with shmexy loose vampire types, though still with the supremely dense guardsmen and saucy knockabout humour from Dragonborn Luxuria and Lydia that made the first one mildly popular. Well no-one has said as yet 'ow! my eyes!' hehe, and it's fun to try something different.

@ Yuri: try blade oils, potions, and enchantments on your sword. also try the crossbow, it usually draws the beasts back in
@Fatigued: hope you feel better man. As for the writing, it isn't cheating if the results make sense, do what you want! Hopefully, you can enjoy the results yourself
@ Stoob: the call of Skyrim is indeed difficult to resist, lol. Once you get around to making that facemod, I will likely fire it up to check it out, then postpone my return to the world of Elderscrolls until I've cleared Nilfgaard of all terrors, lol!
In other news: my various sports teams in the NBA aren't looking good...alas. Also trying to fight off summer classes...but I'll probably end up doing the responsible thing and signing up for more than I bargained for, haha!

Various teams? I had a convo with an American chap on an MMO one time discussing this. In the UK, and probably most of Europe, there is only one team: your team. And it's usually your home town team, even if that team has been propping up the bottom league since time immemorial. Even if you move to another part of the country or world, it's still that team. Mine? Everton FC (the Toffees). Though I'm not a fanatic like many in the UK.

Oh I understand, and over here it's usually the same. However, I have MY "team," and my second favorite team. My personal team is the hometown one, and is part of the Eastern Conference. My 2nd team, therefore, MUST be from the Western Conference, lest I have a conflict of interest during the Playoffs. In all honesty, the main reason I have a West Coast team is because one of the players from their Championship teams (during my childhood) was active in my community. Therefore, I like the organization as a whole, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the team.
As for those teams, the Atlanta Hawks haven't been good since 1985...and are finally looking presentable again. However, true to Atlanta form, they completely crapped up their chances near the end. Moreover, our team just can't seem to make the decision plays. The opposing star player is single-handedly destroying us, which is just a poor indicator of where the sport has gone as a whole. It looks like 5-on-one out there! Still, it isn't an excuse, these are professionals, and the Conference Championship round is supposed to be a spectacle! My great concern is that such stilted play bodes poorly, & most other teams will inevitably follow (mainly: get a star player, a bunch of mercenaries, and ignore any semblance of strategy or team play, aside from "give me the ball and get the hell out of the way").
[Edited to prevent starting a team biased argument, in case fans of the opposing team sees this post]... at least my team isn't being manhandled quite as badly as Germany did Brazil...though it isn't far off.
If my team goes true to tradition...we are one step away from getting a championship team, yet will inevitably make the wrong trade this summer, and completely screw it all up again for the next 10 years. In the last 30 years, between the various sports, my hometown has only managed to bring home ONE championship...sigh...
As for my other team...the Houston Rockets...the less said the better. It's a case where I am loyal to the team despite hating their style of play, and loathing half the players on the roster...double sigh...
Incidentally, I caused a massive flame war on Youtube when I commented on one of KSI's FIFA videos. Basically made a pun at the expense of the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) and the Tottenham Hotspurs (FC). I effectively managed to get all the NBA fans to engage in a pitched battle against all the futbol fans...it was a thing of beauty!!!

sorry to hear about your internet. that always sucks! *hugs* but thank you for the advice! i'm becoming more used to using blade oils to help. but in the case of the werewolf I used the much more reliable method of coming back four levels later and squashing it like a bug. that way I could look like a boss while I did it and recover my self-esteem. *grins*
on a side note, Witcher 3 is lots of fun, but it definitely doesn't hold my interest like other games do. i'm still playing it a little every day, but in an hour or maybe two, I get bored and move on to other activities, whereas other games, (like DA:I or the ME games) I can play for hours on end. *shrug* the plus side is that the "other activities" that I inevitably move on to are job applications and working on my stories! *grins*
hope everyone is having a peachy day! *waves*

the Tottenham Hotspurs (FC).
Sorry.
That kind of thing makes an English guy smile hehe. It's either 'Tottenham Hotspur' or the nickname 'The Spurs'.
Wasn't certain but are you referring to basketball for your teams then? I have no idea of that, TBH, other than the painfully obvious stuff in other mainstream media.

Ah, didn't realize, haha! Speaking of the Spurs, the NBA team is essentially the one that is marketed abroad, IIRC, b/c practically the entire team is a miniature United Nations summit, lol!
Yes, my teams are all basketball related. My various baseball teams are...not worth mentioning, and I don't care about american football unless my team is in the Superbowl (which hasn't happened...ever I think). I suppose I might have a hockey team, but I don't really care all that much. The less said about MLS Soccer the better, lol!
It's funny, Americans go play basketball in Europe to either mature or extend the tail end of their careers (due to the supposed level of competition), whereas the opposite is true of futbol/soccer.

well, since I haven't yet published anything I've written... yes! everything I write is strictly for me! *grins*
but seriously, my answer is yes. of course I intend to publish all my stories eventually, but I have written a few little things, just to see if I could manage to do them justice, that will never ever see the light of day. *nods* plus a story or two that I started and definitively decided to discard because I just didn't like it enough to ever finish it or seriously work on reworking it. like my Frozen/Brave crossover. I liked the idea, but when I actually went to work on it, my enthusiasm for it just sort of ran out after the first couple chapters.
hope everyone's enjoying their summer so far. I know I am! *grins and waves*

Sort of, yea. For my trilogy arc, but they mostly ended up in my 'one shots' area but eventually some were incorporated into the main when I re-re-re-compiled the piece. There was one that I didn't include, where Liara descends back into full Hallex abuse mode as she can't cope. I'd gone down the road of Liara not coping well with the loss of her mother, then the loss of Shepard despite her being returned to her, and her darker experiences with the Broker (I expanded on that a bit in my trilogy). I explored it but couldn't reconcile it with the overall direction and so left it out. Oh, yea (edit) and the post-war Ashley/Hackett thing I wrote a few bits for but won't be using, but it was nice to write a more understated blossoming romance.

I have quite a few crossovers I've typed up but never published, not to mention some rough drafts for later scenes/chapters for my fanfics, so yeah, I have plenty of those. tbh, though, I think I've spent more time working on stuff that I won't publish anytime soon, if at all, than I've spent working on the next chapters for my fanfics. ![]()

Looks like there are only a few of the old crew still hanging around here. I'm sorry to see that so many have moved on to other places, but happy to see that the thread hasn't died yet. Greetings to those of you who are keeping the thread alive.
Wish I could say I was going to be around regularly to offer some sort of contribution to the continuity of the thread, but unfortunately this is not the case. Money is tight. Way too tight to even think about restarting my internet service or replacing my computer yet. But on the rare occasions I'm somewhere with an internet connection and a computer or laptop I can borrow, I still like to haunt my old hangouts. I trust that everyone here is managing to enjoy their summer. It's good to see that a few of you are still writing. If writing stories out longhand in notebooks counts, then so am I. It'll just be a question of transcribing them to a computer once I have one of my own.

Hmm...probably not a whole chapter but there's definitely scenes and other moments that I've tried and discarded (usually after trying for far too long to get them to work
)
@YurigirlzCrush: Tried using my ol' fountain pen a week or so ago (after having it sitting in a draw for some five plus years) -- it didn't end well.
I've got to admit though I haven't really used long-hand to write much more than a short note for a good while and when I happened across some old P&P game stuff it looks like it was written by a completely different person. The letters are all clean and legible, now-a-days it's more of a guessing game! ![]()
@Everyone&Anyone: If you've got an excess of summer near you can you please send it over here? Ok this week we had four/five nice days (Mon-Fri) followed by greyness (and midges. God the midges!
) The week before? Strong winds and rain so heavy you couldn't see the far bank of the loch (dist. of maybe a mile?) I would really like a bit of summer to enjoy before the midges go into full-on 'feeding mode' ![]()
As for my recent absence? Sorry Witcher 3 syndrome (we could call it Wee3s - that's catchy, right? Right?
Oh...right...Nintendo...
) But I did really enjoy it, so much so I've spent most of today (and probably all tomorrow) downloading its predecessors from Steam. They were on sale!
(Wont be able to transfer a save from PC to PS4, but if they happen to do what Bioware did with ME on Playstation...
)
Finally, thought I'd give a free sample of what's been slowing down the writing recently. There's definitely certain things that just drain away the old enthusiasm (apart from good video games
) Anyways...
----Aye, there be spoilers ahead, argh----
The former marine let the empty medi-gel applicator in his hand roll away and hit the kitchen floor with a faint clink as his head tilted backwards to rest against the cabinet behind him. “Polonium rounds,” Shepard's friend husked, his face drawn and bathed in perspiration, “medi-gel's not really working for me.”
The Spectre knelt and placed his weapon on the floor as he examined his friend's injuries; at least one round had gone through the biotic's upper thigh and from the angle it had definitely hit the [femur] bone; another had grazed his abdomen, painful but not immediately life-threatening; the two that had punched through Jacob's ribcage were another story. Even as Shepard watched, a pink froth suddenly appeared around the upper of the two wounds and a trickle of dark oxygenated blood trickled out of the lower. The Spectre's medi-gel applicator hissed as he injected his friend. Polonium laced rounds were illegal throughout Citadel Space and most of the more stable Terminus Systems for a singular nasty reason – they destabilised medi-gel, prevented it from forming the sustainable molecular bonds that it normally did. The Polonium needed to be extracted by a medical team before medi-gel would work properly again, the only thing that could be done in the field was to give the patient as much medi-gel as they could handle and get them to a hospital before they died from their wounds or an overdose of medi-gel.
“Jacob!” Shepard had to grip his friend's face so he could he see the wounded man's eyes, “Jacob, how much medi-gel is in you?”
Jacob struggled to focus his eyes, the breath mask covering his mouth and nose fogging up several times before he answered. “Can't take much more.” The biotic finally admitted before adding, “I need you to do something for me, Shepard.”
The Spectre activated his omni-tool, selecting the medical scanner in a cold anger, as his friend kept talking.
“I want you to go save my wife,” Jacob's hand sought Shepard's, “save [Brynn]. Save my wife and child, Shepard.”
Shepard looked up and into his friend's eyes, the scanner was a pointless gesture and both men knew it – the former marine deserved better. “You never said,” Shepard said quietly, “I didn't know you were married.”
“You were in prison,” Jacob stated as the two men clasped hands, “when we married. You should have been there...with Miranda.”
“Miri was there?” Shepard couldn't hide the hitch in his voice, “She never said...”
“Never seen her...look so...unhappy, Shepard.” There were traces of red in Jacob's breather, “Even when we...broke up. Pretty sure you know...what that means.” The biotic gently pulled at his clasped hand and Shepard let go, “Get going...get it done.”
Shepard jammed his medi-gel applicator hard into Jacob's leg and injected another dose, the biotic didn't seem to notice.
“Get...going...” Jacob's voice was fainter as Shepard taped his last full applicator to the biotic's leg and programmed it for timed release.
“...and get it done.” Shepard finished the motto when his friend didn't.

I bought Witcher 3 and played it a bit. It's a good game but I had a serious problem with the witcher vision. you had to use it a lot and it literally made me sick. the way it warped the screen at the edges and blurred things made me feel physically nauseous. I could only play for fifteen or twenty minutes at a time before I had to go lay down. I never had that problem with a game before, and I finally gave up. which was sort of depressing because I literally used up all of my fun money for the next three months to buy that game. *sigh*
but the actual point of my response: I just googled how much a bulldozer weighs because I thought maybe half of the weight of a bulldozer might work for a YMIR. but if you want to go with half of a bulldozer's weight then your estimate is way off. because a bulldozer weighs 50 tons (108,000 lbs, more specifically) *waves*
