Indeed, spelling variations aren't really a problem, but us Brits like to poke fun about it regardless.

Edit:

Oh.

*goes into the darkest areas of the vaults, unsure if there is anything to find*

...

“You look very smart.” Ashley nods with satisfaction at the young asari.

“Athame's Shield...” Sha'li mutters, unimpressed with the dress she has been forced to wear for a visit to the asari ambassador.

“What?” Ashley says. “What did you say?”

“Oh... nothing...”

“I'm not totally ignorant, you know. I do know what that means.”

“What?”

“You think I learnt nothing from Liara?”

“Oh...”

“I hope I don't hear any more language like that from you, young lady! Where'd you pick that up from anyway?”

“You think I learnt nothing from Liara?” Sha'li returns coolly.

Your talk of "vaults" reminded me of the "Fallout Shelter" app, which has devoured me of late, haha!

I don't have an 'appy' device but I've heard it's very good.

Though I do wonder, if this is the summer we lose the thread's Nekomimi Mascot.   :(

Kotaku had an article on how to play it on PC.  Check out THIS LINK to get apps running.  It's worked like a charm for me so far!

Yeah, the thread's been limping along of late, sadly.  Still, it's been a great boon for me to come to this particular section of the forum for the past few years!

Cool.  I'll have a look at some point.  I was wondering if it might be available through the Win10 MS appy thingy.

Anyone else upg to 10 yet?  There's the odd thing that annoys me, like no genuine 'Control Panel', just 'settings' that you have to search through but generally, it works okay.  No features I've discovered so far that make me think, "Thank Spongebob, they've finally updated X".  Still trying to work out if I can make the GUI look like Win98 like I've been able to in previous incarnations...  I like a grey faceless O/S.

Edit:

*ahem* That was all a bit premature... encountered a bug when trying to rename a file, "Invalid MS-Dos function".  *slow clap*  They finally broke basic Dos functionality, no doubt some idiot at Microsoft doesn't recognise that Windows is still essentially a just a glorified GUI to Dos, nor the old adage that if it ain't broke...  It's all umms and ahhhs at MS help, with no solution forthcoming.  *continues slow clap*

Honestly, I don't upgrade OS until at least SP1 or 2.

Then again, I was still using MS Works for my first forays into fanfic, back in the day, lol!

Finally doing chapter five from the Imperial side and getting a different take on Darth Marr and the rest. The char I can't stand is supreme chancellor Suresh, I'll be very glad to see the back of her in the expansion; I heard she'll be dead. Yay. Stupid mouthy arrogant emotional ambitious twi'lek. Didn't she bloody read the reports from Yavin 4? Did she think everything that happened there was hogwash?

Anyways, I have no idea how the devs are going to deal with the chapter five development; can't see how it's going to tie in with the expansions. Additionally, sometimes I'll read complaints about how the Revan story was dealt with but I don't see what's the problem. It all seems fine. Of course, I don't do flash points or operations so maybe I may have missed out some points on this but I hardly think so.

Managed to input a couple of paragraphs for my fic but I'm very much afraid the next chapter will not be done this mth.  I've my sith warrior and sorcerer to bring to chapter five and several other things to prepare.

I'm having another trek across the Mojave (still can't get FO3 to work on Win10 though), and another (shock horror) run through ME3, re-living the disappointment - well there was some dialogue I wanted to check out from ME2 and one thing led to another...  I was almost as het up as the first time around when I came across the C-Sec detective after the Cerberus coup - WHY AREN'T YOU GIANNA PARASINI?!  Who are you, where's Vido?  Why am I attacking this pointless Cerberus operation when I could be fighting along side Shiala on Feros?  Many of the those N7 missions could have been asset swapped to be not Cerberus and instead something interesting we might have actually wanted to see, further cameos, etc.  Aaaaaaaaaand so on.

Nice synopsis, but I've no idea on the finer plot points of SWTOR or its mechanics.   :)

I think for the story in SWTOR, only the class stories of the Jedi Knight, the Consular, the Sith Warrior, the Sith Sorcerer and the Imperial Agent tie up rather well with the main story, despite it being repetitive with slight differences in dialogues, and the expansions. The smuggler, not so much. Republic trooper and bounty hunter stories I have not done but I've a feeling the last three won't actually play / tie in with the tapestry that well because they don't even move in the power circles that's populated by force users; Jedi and Sith. At best, they're  a shoo-in just so they can take part.

The main story now involves the Sith Emperor very heavily.  With Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion, they might play better but I still feel they're out of place. They should have an entirely different arena, secondary supportive roles, instead of being 'forced' to take part in the same scenario that's actually meant / more suitable / crafted for force users. I guess that's why I'm not very keen to update the smuggler, trooper and BH. They don't fit.

The Imperial Agent is entirely unique, I won't post spoilers but her influence is far greater than the smuggler, trooper and bounty hunter. However, it's still rather weird to have her facing formidable force users and walk away victorious.  *shrug* Ok, maybe she has a bit of the force.

Darth Marr is a rather interesting Sith power figure. He is ambitious but he's also pragmatic and willing to listen. However, it will take more in the expansion to know him truly.

Suresh is the republic supreme chancellor (ultra moron). 'nuff said. I won't be surprised if Grand Master Satele Shan filed late reports and never tried to bring up the matter of the Sith Emperor on Yavin 4 with her until it's all over.  Her statement "Don't tell me how to fight a war" makes me want to kick her out of her comfy chair. She's a desk flying senator for crying out loud. Idiot twi'lek. I hoped she gets it after what happened on Ziost (the final conclusion to chapter 5)

Grand Master Satele Shan, I've no idea if she will appear in the expansion but I hope she survives. More Jennifer Hale! :P

Lana Beniko and Theron Shan. New chars for the C5 expansion. Also new LIs. Tried both. For a Sith, Lana is surprisingly open, regarding the relationship. Of course she could be just playing a game (Mata Hari whatever) but she floored me with the last thing she said, which is more than what Theron said. He talked about the intelligence service he's going to back to, she talks about parting, the necessity of it, to be focused on her job, the troubled future and finally, a warm farewell. Theron... you suck. I don't even remember any sweet things you said, if there were any.  Lana is better than you. :P

I am looking forward to KotFE since these two will be the new companions. :D

Still have to go back to SWTOR.  Dunno how I feel about playing any of the extra content though.  From a story POV, it's tough to motivate myself, as I prefer my stories to have defined bookends (which is not something that MMO's are generally that good at).  Incidentally, there are only two MMO's that I have ever really cared for, SWTOR and Secret World.

I was talking with somebody else about swtor and he didn't think there's anything wrong with non force users going right up against those who are and killing them. Actually this subject doesn't bother me until I start moving the toons up tp chapter 4 and 5. I then begin to question. In a group, yes, they have a chance. Solo? No way, not unless the toon is an expert in traps, etc he can lure the sith / jedi into. Han couldn't even stand up to Vader, no chance in h*ll and yet smugglers, troopers, imperial agents and BH in swtor are blithely shooting their way past them and killing them.

No one looked sideways at Han for doing what he does best; boody trapping, shooting, flying. He's still doing his part, contributing to the big picture, the target. No one expects him to go up against the Emperor or Vader. In swtor, all the non force users are doing the opposite, especially more so in the last part of Chapter 5. It's lazy story telling, imo. A lazy way to outfit a one size fits all to all the classes.

Anyways, I've decided to move the trooper, smuggler and the BH due to their crafting. An oversight of mine had some of my force user toons replicating crafts. At that time, I didn't have much of a choice since as they're moving around, they're collecting the mats while the stagnant toons are not.

For me, it's interesting to see how the story develops and I'm definitely keen to know how the problem in chapter 5 is going to be resolved. I heard that Abrams was given a run through of the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion just so that nothing in it is going to rock / out of sync for SW7. Now that is surprisingly though as I thought swtor is classified as legend.

On the fic, managed to add two miserable paragraphs. Trying to get it out by the end of this mth but I don't think I can.

Well then, 3.5 years is a pretty good run for a thread like this, I feel.  I'm sure that it'll pick up some more after the next ME game.  Miss talking to the group though.  If you happen to drop by and see this, I wish you all well!  I'll still be dropping by though, to air my thoughts if nothing else!

Incidentally, I actually have a few pages of my ME Comic posted.  Will likely update as I hit milestones.  In the meanwhile, take care all!

Got to admit I'm not impressed that the BSN has just dumped all the fan-stuff into the one forum, feels like a cheap move to me.  Still  *shrugs* EA.  I really shouldn't be surprised any more.  :?

...Getting back on-topic...

Finally got back into writing after a rotten month or so and am bouncing around between Stuck in the Middle and another ME thing (the new thing is to try and lighten my mood as events in Stuck have gotten kind of depressing <_< )

@Seracen:  Good luck with the comic, going to admit not really my cup of tea, but I don't want to even imagine how difficult it is to do.

For the next person...

*Takes the half-drunk bottle of whisky down from atop of the cupboard, blows off the dust and leaves it sitting on the coffee table*   ;)

@Obsidian Gryphon:  Needs updating, Unquiet Night hasn't been my most recent effort for a while now.

Any ways...

On progress front?  Not good.  <_<  Ended up getting nothing done due to one thing or another, was really hoping to get a page or so (at least)  but just didn't happen.  I really need to get something posted before the end of the month.  :?

Over the past few days, since I've returned to Mass Effect, my creative gears have been working again. I never stopped making up new endings. My latest one is, once again the Reapers have no discernsble motivation for their efforts. The Crucible on the other hand, is a giant dark matter/energy launcher which is designed to open a door to another universe, trapping the Reapers. I also thought up ideas as to how the weapon itself could end up being as dangerous and unknowable as the Reapers. This would lead to severe confrontations with your team mates, who are afraid to see it turned on.

Thoughts? ^

It's the first endingending I've thought about doing a small fanfic for.

Sounds interesting, although I'm curious as to what you would do with the alternate universe.  Is there another civilization there, and will that affect the current one?  Or is it essentially a giant black hole?  Do the ramifications of this weapon have any lasting dangerous effects beyond the Reaper War?

I'm always a fan of looking into purpose, and tying as much together as I can.  As such, I'm generally a proponent of taking ideas, such as yours, and tying them into elements we've seen previously (such as Haestrom's dark energy anomaly, or the effects of exploding the Bahak Relay).  Just a suggestion, it may not fit your plans for the story, nor should you feel that any such thing is necessary.

As I always say, just do what you feel is fun!

Well I haven't explored the ramifications of the weapon firing, but I have thought about treating it like the Manhattan Project. People are afraid to see what it might do, given its power source. It could end the war, or it could undo the universe.

But your ideas about alternate universes are good to explore too. Think of the implications, of being able to open another universe, but you have to send something so impossibly powerful and evil to the other side.

Again I've been working with more ideas, this time on the Leviathans. I largely didn't want the writers to go into the origins of the Reapers. I felt that between the first two games, we know enough. This is why I largely disliked the Catalyst and to some extent the Leviathan DLC. Though I thought the Leviathan creatures themselves were neat.

My ideas were just to repurpose the origins without the catalyst. Basically I got this, the Leviathans were the apex species of their world, with powerful mental capabilities. Over time, they thralled other species on their planet. Within thousands of years, they had control over everything, however...they wanted more. They soon set their eyes on space, but were limited by their biology to move there. So they controlled the other species on the planet to build emmense starships, in their image, to go into the stars and find new worlds autonomously. The ships were to be controlled by an AI, sometime during the building process, the AI on these ships became self aware and silently waited for their completion to be finished. On the day of launch, as the ships ascended to the void, they looked down on their masters and saw themselves, as superior. The ships took over the planet, slaughtering millions of the Leviathan species, and taking over the other thralled species. The rest is history.

Idk, could probably use ironing out. It was just an effort to make an origin story of these things without the Catalyst.

A variation of the story is, rather than an AI, the Leviathan themselves put their consciousness in the Reapers, and the ones that left the planet soon 'synthesized" into the machine and saw themselves as the true representation of their form.

Personally would go with the variant, as it neatly removes the need for 'StarBrat' and (to me) feels more natural (or evolutionary anyway :D ) than the old Rogue/Crazy AI goes on a rampage chestnut.

As for fears over the Crucible, I actually had those during the whole of '3' and was kind of disappointed the topic wasn't raised by anyone!  So that sounds like it could be an interesting tale!

Progress news:  Well the next chapter of 'Stuck' has been nixed, decided a complete re-write was needed.  But hopefully when it's done, this time, I should have actually advanced the story along (or at least closed the current mess anyway  <_<) and I can get started on the next thread.  The more 'upbeat' tale has kind of stalled as well   Turns out that trying to write a disguised Miranda (without actually stating it is Miranda) is proving a bit troublesome.  Especially as I want to let the reader (if any) guess who she probably is without future Shepard clocking her (or in other words suggest that the woman chatting up a young Lt. Shepard is a younger version of Miranda who Shepard then isn't going to recognise years later when he wakes up in a Cerberus Lab)   <_< That probably makes more sense in my head!  :P

Back when I was writing my 2nd ever published fanfic, I had an understanding for backstory in a particular manner.  I took a break, and picked up writing again.  To catch up, I played the game it was based on, and realized my understanding of the backstory was erroneous.  However, I still preferred my version.

So, I reconciled the difference by saying that the "canon" was actually a red herring, and provided my explanation as the "true" version of events, that had been corrupted over time.  Nothing to say your story has to be any one particular way, provided you back it up properly!

I skipped the Leviathan until my trilogy sequel.  Well I thought that as it's DLC, it's not necessarily 'canon' of the trilogy and can be omitted without worry.  However, I did/have introduced them in the sequel, and they're not happy that Shepard would consider any kind of 'solution' from the Reapers.  While my trilogy arc was pretty faithful to the original games' arcs, my sequel twists a lot of what was actually going on - such as why the Reapers didn't just control the relays (they could control and move the Citadel on a whim so at that point they logically should have taken control of galactic travel - an engineered 'showdown' would make no sense) and were generally 'inefficient' in this cycle, beyond the destruction of Sovereign and the Alpha Relay.

Currently, the sequel has pretty much ground to a halt.  :/   I've thankfully had a few whimsy ideas to doodle with, hoping that'll get the brain into gear.
