Got early access to SWTOR KotFE and played like crazy. :P  They released nine chapters which are enjoyable but I felt they are somewhat short. Out of 9 characters I've made, I've now only the smuggler left to update to the expansion.

Regards the story, it's no longer individual. All the classes are the main protagonist, the only difference being the set of skills, abilities and relationships. There're lots of questions and in some ways, I feel the story writers left out some stuff. Why is this....? Why do that....? Why doesn't ABC feel...?

I don't think much of Bioware pitching non-force users against force user adversaries in the class stories. It's a vast mismatch when you see in one cutscene the enemy using his force powers to sweep and take down numerous soldiers, deflecting the missile or whatever projectile the smuggler (for example) uses in the cutscene and then in the real fight, he just goes down like cheese. In the expansion, they managed to dust this discrepancy under the carpet in the story but I'm still skeptical of this kind of fight especially when the player selected a specific decision.

It'll only be next year that they said they'll start releasing one chapter per month. There're a total of 16 chapters. I hope the new chapters aren't so short and it's a bludy long wait. The other bad thing they did is to cut end game crafting off at the knees. It's almost useless.

Anyway, I still managed to churn out a chapter for my fanfic. At 97 chapters, I'm wondering if I can close off at 100. I hope I can.

Ah, I thought I was going to be clearing out corpses rather than just dusting upon my arrival.  lol

Received warning for 'spam'.  Was annoyed admin didn't reply (or even read my message, or state correct routes for disputes if that was incorrect to do so), so I've just had to take it.  :/  All I did was post 'They're coming...' and a link to research on a 26m year extinction cycle that our solar system seems to experience.    That's not relevant to ME?  Anyway...

OG: Would be nice to end on 100 but don't force it if it don't fit, but I'm sure you're long in the tooth enough to avoid that.   :)

That's really odd.  If people can 'scream' about TW3, then what's the problem with an article on space?

MrStoob, the number 100 makes me feel old. :P  Kidding but it gives me the feeling that I'm dragging the story. A reader asked if I'm going to continue with what might possibly happen a hundred years down the road, since I put in nodes of a coming conflict, once I closed off the current fanfic. That floored me because I never thought of writing about that. Maybe, maybe not but I do need a break from writing ME fanfic. :D I also have a mind to reedit all the chapters because I've been throwing out blueprints, so to speak, so looking through them again, there're some events and chars that should have been properly introduced / fleshed out. Also need to tidy up the dialogues.

I don't have any new games to look forward to. I stopped playing swtor since all that remains is grinding which I'm not interested in. New game next year? The Rise of the Tomb Raider, PC version. And possibly Star Citizen. I hope the story is good, they keep churning out ships which are very cool looking but I'm more concerned with story content.

With time on my hands, I started a DAI fanfic. I actually started one several months ago but took it off because I felt it was somewhat long winded and a bit jammed with unimportant stuff. DAI lore is so thick I'm trying to keep it simple.

And I've taken to replaying DAI again. I searched for any new games but found none. Horror? Boring as h*ll. I'm immune to camera floating and wandering around dark places that're mostly annoying mazes, no interactions with NPCs, and scripted scare moments. It's boring. RPGs, now trending towards traditional gameplay, dungeon wandering, high camera angles where you look down on small chars, feeling remote, and script blocks. Boring. Bioware spoiled RPGs for me.  It has to be their immersive style or not at all.

I don't mind adventure games, they've interesting stories but found nothing. Oh well, more time to write fanfics.

I'm currently on Fallout 4.  Main protagonist's (female) voice was eluding me but I knew I knew it - looked it up and it's Courtney Taylor (Jack), though I think I had heard that before somewhere (here?).  Then a random Brotherhood of Steel guard commented as I passed, and thought "I know that raspy lisp anywhere..."  And indeed, Kimberly Brooks (Ashley).   :)

SWTOR and Fallout 4 are both on my current play list.  I just finished up the base story quests for Jedi Consular, and am working through my Bounty Hunter.  Thanks for the info on the expansion.  I haven't bought into any of them of yet, but I will likely hold off a little longer now.  Ah well.  Hello again to all, hope your season is going well!  Still taking a break from the writing, although work continues apace on my comics.

I really wish EA offered some sort of bundle on the DLC on the PC versions of Mass Effect.  I can buy the Trilogy for $30 or less on sale ($15 on Amazon), but buying all the DLC content would bring that total to $100 or more.  Paying more than double for DLC, versus the base games, is a daunting task, especially when I already bought everything on XBOX 360.

Stoob: A friend of mine created a perfect ringer for Subject Zero in Fallout 4, lol!  I tried, but wasn't nearly as successful as her!

Gryphon: I know what you mean about chapter intervals.  I try to keep my total count to multiples of 5.  If I was that close to 100, I'd probably break up a few chapters to get there as well, or write a few extra epilogues, haha!  If I really wanted to cheat, I'd probably make Chapter 100 my author's final words.

I'm afraid I have no love for Bethesda. I tried FO3 years ago and was bored. Depressed even by the whole setting, gameplay, so no. End of the world, surviving thing is not for me. Neither do I find their fantasy games settings that much better. I'm totally hands off this company's products.

The games I am looking forward to next year is Rise of the Tomb Raider, pc version. I'm avoiding watching any game PT of it on YT.  The other is Star Citizen and the new KotFE chapters. I've decided to just play one toon since I've played 8 out of 9 toons and the story process is repetitive. I seriously doubt there will be any great difference, maybe not until near the end of this current story line. But I'll only know till then whether I should bother with the rest of the toons.

Seracen, the one thing I feared is that I may not be able to end at the 100th chapter. If so, I may just summarize how the story ended. I fear I'll get rotten eggs thrown at me if I do that.

Honestly, Bethesda inherited FO, their main babies have always been the Elder Scrolls games.  Would have to agree that FO3 is depressing as hell (though appropriately so).  I downloaded a bunch of mods that added both story and visual content, and I enjoyed that experience quite thoroughly!  For me, the essential mods were one which added a fully voiced sister character, cutscenes, etc.  A few other companion mods were well done too, and fought off that sense of barren loneliness.  Visually, the recovering wasteland mod was crucial, and make it seem more upbeat.  FO4 is plenty colorful, even without mods, and that's what won me over this time around.  They actually did an amazing job with the out-of-box companions too!

My big upcoming games are Fire Emblem, Persona 5, Deus Ex (though not at launch), and Cyberpunk.  Also Planescape: Numenera (sp?).

As for your story, take your time.  There's nothing saying you MUST conform to any particular chapter count.  There's always 105 or 110, lol!

The desperate scenario is part of the charm for me with Fallout.  I was born into the back end of the Atomic age, where the Cold War threat of Nuclear annihilation still existed, so there's certainly an element of morbid fascination with a post-apocalyptic world for my generation and previous.  And of course, there's all the humorous and eerily accurate propaganda.

Something, something... Dark Side!  something, something...

(wrong franchise, but you get the gist)

I'm hopeful, from the looks of it, it might end at 100 or 101. I can then dust my hands off gleefully and gratefully; I've ended a long term project! :P :D

Doesn't look like much in Dec for games. SWBattlefront looked boring as h*** in the trailers and my feelings are justified; gameplay and features are bad, going by the reviews. Graphics are beautiful but what's the point when gameplay is so lacklustre.  The price was also outrageous though it fell rather rapidly this month.

Dreamfall Chapters #4 appear in Dec but I'm finding it not to my expectations when I played the previous 3 chapters so I'm not playing #4 yet. It's not that terrible nor that good, it's just...well, there and I find some game elements just irritating enough to feel frustrated. It really doesn't help that my fav char, the main protagonist, was knocked down by the intro of another protag in TLJ Dreamfall. And even worst, died though it's hinted she might not be but I don't find playing the secondary protag all that fun; she's not the hero who caught my eye.

Didn't get to watch SW Force Awaken. Not interested in jamming with crowds so it's going to be bluray I'll be watching. I did read the plot and okay, it's only the first part so it sounds, so, so. Have to wait what's coming up next.

Saw the Batman vs Superman trailer. Major spoiler in the trailer, terrible. What's worse, Doomsday looked like the cave troll from LOTR. Ugh. Someone suggested that the villain should have been the dark of Superman, that shot of him with his red eyes; oh, he looked rather dark at that moment. I think that's better than cave-troll-Doomsday.  Not holding out much for this movie.

Went to poke with Banished and downloaded quite a number of mods for this city building game. I still can't get over the auto allocation of matching couples for new houses. Honestly, a 25 yr old guy with a 3 year old girl????  Ok never mind, we're talking medieval period or before that; they all married young, even fob off 9 year old noble girls to some noble guy 25 years old and he didn't have any qualms getting her pregnant (historical fact though I think she was 13 when she had a kid)

Anyways, I started a DAI fanfic. No reviews and whatever but do I care. :D  Nah. I'm having fun with it though I'm having a bit of trouble with it due to the DA lore, etc. But decided not to bother over much with those as long as I don't go overboard.

Merry Christmas folks!

Haven't had much of an opportunity to write this month and when I do get a chance not much gets done. I know where I want to go, but I keep getting bogged down in scenes that either keep getting tweaked or cut. Very frustrating!

Waiting on Chapters to finish before playing Dreamfall, although the end of the last game also perturbed me.  As for the supposed death, you know it didn't happen b/c she's alive by the "after credits" scene in the first game.

Anyhoo, happy holidays and happy new year to all, and best of luck on all your projects!

Just published the first two chapters of my FemShep/Kaidan fanfic on AO3 called Mass Effect : Reflection. Its more a scifi thriller romance which was narrated by Shepard and Kaidan.

The story is set long after the destruction of the Collector base. Mostly it will be about Shepard coming to terms of her renewed existence, some explanation of her general behavior in ME2 and her past that come to haunt her. While on Kaidan's part, I will try to fill in the gap in his narrative, explain his prejudice against Cerberus, his Spectre candidacy and him trying to renew his relationship with Shepard. Of course, there will be a lot of splashes of drama, action and sex, hence the mature rating from the start.

I plan it to be novel length which is around 60k or so. I will publish the next two chapters on Sundays and then one chapter each Sundays. If you spot any grammatical errors that I missed or problematic sentence structure, let me know. I'm not a native English user btw and sometimes I ended up using my first language's sentence structure and language context without realizing.

Are you referring to TLJ epilogue? Lady Alvane? I'm inclined to believe that's her and I really hope it is April. I won't spoil chapters for you but I'm definitely going to wait till they release the last chapter and play 4 & 5 together. I hope they don't drop another cliffhanger. If they do TLJH, I want April back as the main protag.

@aoibhealfae, good start on the first chapter although I was a little confused by where Shep was in the beginning. Could use some sprinkling description of the area chars were in.

Happy New Year and Happy Holidays to all. :D

TLJ Epilogue.  I've forgotten most of Dreamfall at this point (which is odd, since you'd think I'd have forgotten TLJ just as much).  I remember enough of the basic gist, but I'm holding out for the end of Chapters.  Then I'll likely marathon the whole series from TLJ to the end of Chapters!  Leaving it open for another series is all well and good, but if they have the gall to cliffhanger this, I'll be pissed.  A 17 year cycle on this series deserves a freaking ending, future licensing be damned!

I don't think the fate of the two worlds can be decided with Chapters. At the most, the threat would be nullified. I think. *shrug*

Hit the nostalgic road today and listened to ME soundtracks. Vigil, Normandy, Main theme, Overlord...memories, how it had been, the wonder of ME. :D

Sometimes when I get stuck, I read other SF books, just to kick the rock loose in my head. This sometimes help me to reflect and correct how a certain section could be when it initially felt wrong.

I've to admit I loosely model the Shep I bumble about with in my fanfic after Honor Harrington. DW's HH is one model very hard to emulate and I can't write like he does of course. Honor Harrington is by far the most outstanding heroine in the SF books I've read. There's no one like her. I've kept up with all her accomplishments, the ups and downs, her sufferings, her determinations in the HH novels. I'm devastated to learn that she will die in a major conflict to come. She was initially slated to fall in an earlier novel but other spin-offs of the HH universe postpone that event, to David Weber's chagrin.

I'm not happy but I can't say Honor didn't also have good events in her life. From a low humble yeoman status, she has risen high (both navy and civilian ranks) through hard work, sacrifices and holding true to her principles. She's married to someone she loves, has children and despite all the tragedies and setbacks, there is happiness. Her friends love her and her enemies both feared and respected her. I can't ask for more that she will go out in fiery blaze, in defense of her star nation and everything she holds dear. I will miss her and Nimitz (her treecat).  Her passing will be devastating to fans much as we have prepared ourselves.

The only consolation is that fans will be able to follow up (at least that's how the author puts it) on how her children / descendants would fare decades / centuries after her death, if they carry on the Harrington legacy though I'm sure they would.

But before she goes, I hope she blasts those bloody Mesans and Manpower out of their collective smug boltholes. They deserved no less for the millions of lives lost in arranged conflicts for nearly half a century and the misery they've inflicted through manipulation of politicians, assassinations and the slave trade.

I tend to overwrite in descriptive (especially when I was doing ethnography) but I want to focus more on characterization and dialogue to keep up with the pacing. I will remember to add the descriptive later for clarity.

Just updated, chapter 1-4 available now. Had some problem with Kaidan's chapter 4 and had to cut a scene out which is round 600+ words. No big loss in the narrative though. Longer individual chapters after this. I hope I'll keep up to my set deadline.

I need to try those books again at some point.  Perhaps I was just too young when I first read those books (freshman in high school), but I didn't really get into them.  I happened to read the original right after Starship Troopers (which bored me), and decided that I wasn't a fan of military scifi (which is strange, because I enjoyed Tom Clancy well enough from time to time).

Then again, there are books that I read back then that I can barely stand, simply because of the conventions of the genre (Noble Dead series is a good example).  Moreover, I'm kind of tired of the Tom Clancy books, even though I can respect them.  I guess it's just content saturation and evolving taste, lol!  I know my approach to writing has completely changed since I first started, way back when.

Part of the editing process my friend.  I'm sure it isn't wasted, however, as it was character study, if nothing else.  Myself, I invariably end up using that stuff in later work.  I think that's how my most recent Mass Effect fanfic ended up being completed so quickly.  I was brainstorming for quite a while during my writing of the prior story, and a lot of stuff that got edited out of the previous work found its way into the subsequent one.  Anyways, best of luck!

DW writes a lot of deep expositions of the *HH universe which is not to everyone's taste. :D I've to admit the tech sailed right over my head; I just settle for fleet action and this and that happened. I've also another fav author, Elizabeth Moon. Her style is straight forward, with just the right sprinkle of details to get it moving and a 'marching' pace (I'm thinking the influence from her past military career is telling :P ). She writes about SF and fantasy heroines though I think she has retired from writing with the last book on Pak's world a couple of years ago.

* I think there's a HH movie coming out this year. I didn't keep tabs on it because I'm not enthusiastic about the idea. I can't think of any one who can portray Honor. It's not just her stature, her height, her physical prowess, it's her character / personality.

I hit chapter 100. *falls over* I'm winding everything down, hope to close off at 102 or 103. It's like trying to halt the momentum of a ponderous train. ^_^ *picture stick figure waving flags at the train, shouting "stop! stop!"*

I think something was chopped off in chapter 4, when Sparatus addressed Shep during the audience. The rest of the chapters are pretty good. Keep it up.  :)

I had intended to leave it hanging but I see why it was problematic. It's ok, I just updated with an additional paragraph to ease the page break.

My niece broke my headphones last week and I didn't do much fiction writing these last few days since I kept playing SWTOR again and I finally got that nice Gree armor sets for my Trooper and I get carried away doing heroics and making millions for all my 8 alts. Yes, I am very easily distracted without noise-cancelling headphones. Finally that 24/1 deadline starting to look very scary.

I think I've cleared most of the 'boring' exposition part and finally I could pick up the pace. For starters, starting the chapter 7 with smut. I did say its a scifi romance.

24/1? I played swtor too but I got terribly bored after running through 7 instances of the same thing in KotFE. Everything's filtered into the main trunk. It makes Bioware's job easier but then, it also remove that unique feature; different class stories. I play for the story, not to slog for gear and game money, etc. I stopped playing after kicking up the 7th toon, I did that within two months or less, and decided not to bother with the 8th.  Now I heard they're going seasonal expansions. *sigh* well good, but the chapters they're putting in is so dang short although nice with plenty of good writing and cutscenes. I'll probably go back in again after S1 ended and just focus on two toons; Jedi and Sith. I don't see the point of the other 6.

I'm a sub and I find all that extra bonus stuff thingy white elephants because they all end up in storage and not used.

I set chapter deadlines, so I have a set goal every week and I don't want to leave the project unfinished.

I'm currently on preferred status. I have 8 level 65s and one lowbie assassin on Harbinger. I only have two toons reserved for KOTFE (Sith Warrior and Jedi Knight) with the other four still with unfinished class stories. I have an instant 60 on another server and I only play that whenever i have an itch for another KOTFE run but I won't push the rest of my toon to endgame at least at the end of the year. You don't need to stay sub just to play the content you've unlocked.

All I care right now is getting 50 million credits. I've already reaching 20 mill at the moment.

Huh, didn't know that.  I figured the content would get locked back off once I went F2P again.  WOuldn't have a problem paying for the expansions, but I just don't play enough to stay monthly for long (I usually buy a month or two at a time, when the mood hits me).  Honestly, I'd probably burn through the content and wait until the new expansion, rinse and repeat.

Totally understand trying to set deadlines.  I usually put out the sort of work in spurts.  I should probably break down my current comicbook run to a panel a week, as anything else is just too daunting.
