I've been playing on and off as F2P in 2014 and subbing on and off as well in 2015 (just four months out of the year as I like playing as Preferred more). I'm still thinking about subbing next week to get Chapter X early access but I don't like how I felt forced to play the game everyday to get my money worth and I'm still burned out after my last sub. I probably would just sub late next month so I would get three chapters unlocks in a single 60 days non-recurring sub (and miss HK-55.... oh well, no big loss there, I love my HK-51). I'm not in a hurry with the game anyway.

I tend to abandon fanfic projects in favor of my own original WIP so I was worried that I might lost interest in this story fairly quickly but I've been replaying Mass Effect over and over and might as well finish it,

At the moment, I'm commissioning a ShepardXAlenko art in watercolour and thinking about commissioning another art for my SWTOR toons side by side with their mirrors.

I think I'm not going to bother with swtor until all 16 chapters are out. Besides, Rise of the Tomb Raider comes out on pc next week and I've a couple of other adventure games I want to play too.

Totally agree with finishing fanfic project. :D I'm nearing the end for mine after almost three years (I think) because I only churn out one chapter a month unlike some who could throw out three in a month; any ideas I have stewed slowly. :P

Normally, I never stick to one WIP that long since I am easily distracted by new writing ideas every now and then. I might write several thousand words before I stop and shelve it. For bigger novel projects, after the first draft (normally at 60k), I would stop and take a break and let the ideas settle down before I analyze them critically and deconstruct them from scratch. Sometimes I gave up after several drafts. I can get carried away trying to find the right flow and the right narrative and the right characterization and considering English is my second language, trying to please an average native English user is another workload I have to contend with.

Chapter 7 is up and yay, its still 24th. Naturally, there were some problematic sentences somewhere since I finish the bulk of the word count this evening and publish it on the fly. My head is still spinning and I need another day to edit through. Kinda interesting that in this chapter I have to look up on hair tutorials on cutting curly hair for men. Fortunately, this fanfic is quite a leisure project since I didn't need to do much. They were based on my canon Shepard's playthroughs and I merely expand on their narrative and closing some of the plotholes that nag me while I was playing the game. The next chapter will be fun; Shadow Broker, runaway Spectre, secret identity, and a kidnapping case.

English is my second language too. :) I fly by the seat of my pants. Write actually. I don't do drafts. All I have are just images, a vague idea of what I want. I'm not joking. :D Sometimes I get a clear sequence in my head, sometimes I don't. It's the latter that slows me down. The development rate is about a paragraph on a good day and a few lines on a bad day.

I'm more for adventure rather than romance and preferred to examine how the future would look like in the ME universe; my vision, not Bioware's. Hence, I try to determine what kind of problems would appear and how it can be solved while at the same time, weaving Shep and her LI into the tapestry. Of course I couldn't cover everything, it's tough, hence I begged for forgiveness in advance from would-be-readers on the fact I'll tend to drop the ball or write stupid things / dialogue. :P

I'll be honest and say I've even forgotten some of what I wrote in the early chapters. I would go back and read, going, "oh did I put that? Oh geeez, what bad phrasing, I really need to do better. Oh, wacky ideas which I can blame on other SF novels"..  But the end is near and I'm going to revise all the chapters once I'm done.

I'm going to try for DA next. Actually I did false starts, two times. I was out of sorts and I recently realised why. DA lore. I'm not happy with all that stuff so I'm going AU where anything is possible but still takes place in the DA universe.

I wrote random genre every year but I tend to primarily write very dark psychological thrillers. Never actually try writing a scifi romance before, my last WIP was an Urban Fantasy with diverse Asian mythology and modern existentialism but I'm so burned out writing them at the moment (I'm rebuilding my main female character). I never actually found any scifi romance novels that I like and the ones that I do like tend to be very short novellas. Like they always say, if you can't find what you like to read, you write them. If I do this one right, I might create another scifi romance for end of the year WIP.

But right now, I'm more interested in exploring Shepard and Kaidan's personal narrative than their romance narrative since it sits in the middle of ME2 and ME3 when they should be estranged as a couple. I'm in the middle of another ME3 playthrough and there was a lot of unresolved personal conflicts with Shepard that I want to touch. At the moment, I'm planning this to be a 60k length which is a respectable length for a novel. I don't really have plans to extend it since I don't have that patience as both writer and reader so I want to finish this relatively quick. A little spoiler; my Shepard's real last name is actually Amell *wink2*

I like Kaidan but I want to kick his butt in ME3. :D  Good chapter. Roll in the hay nicely written. Toombs showed up. Unexpected but he did send his hate and rage in ME2.

Some of the stuff I put in the fanfic was inspired by Frank Herbert's vision of human evolution in his Dune saga, completed by his son after his death. In this case, I applied it to the asari and protheans since the humans in the ME universe have no advance mental capabilities. Dune is but one of a few SF (book series and tv, Babylon 5 especially) resources I look to for some ideas, possibilities.

Frankly, I'm more attached to FemShep than I do with Kaidan. The first few drafts of this was in her POVs, it was originally named "Ghost in the Machine". Come to think of it, I like the old name better, updated.

I'm reading James SA Corey's Leviathan Wakes at the moment and I just want to see if I could make the dual narrative work (since I might utilize this again). I allowed Shepard to be more emotional than usual which may seem to be out of character but not really if its her personal narrative, while Kaidan took the role as the passive observer which was Shepard's role in the game. I'm trying to see if I could make the separate voice thing distinctive. I'm still unsure whether I'm successful at the moment but it was still too early to know.

To me, Kaidan is an enigma I want to explore further. I play a lot of Bioware romances but he get a lot more interesting the more I dissected his character. There were a lot of surprising things that did happen in the game that was very subtle but significant only to their romance. Like TIM trying to control Shepard in ME2 by threatening her lover and then TIM used him to punish Shepard in ME3. And while everyone seems angry about Horizon, he was the first one showing his true loyalty to Shepard by sacrificing his home and his family during the Vancouver attack. It was really her choice to prove herself worthy to him. Then during the Citadel standoff, he just found out that his father had died and then had to point a gun at the woman he loves who was silently begging him to trust her. I like their dynamic the most in the game. Their narrative could stand on their own even without extensive rewrites and DLCs or grand display of affections. Besides, he get regular amount of hate on average and easily one of the most unpopular character i.e: too safe and boring and everyone loves Garrus... then again, FemShep too.

Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to get attached to either Virmire Survivor, simply because of the disservice done to their characters in the subsequent games.  So much so, that I even have a hard time seeing the modified versions of them that I write for my AU fiction as Shep romances (although I like Miri/Kaidan).  But that's something else entirely.

Between Ash and Kaidan, I think that Kaidan was the more likable, and from a military standpoint, the more capable (biotics, etc).  However, from a character POV Ashley had the most do play with, in regards to growth.  By the time we meet Kaidan, he's pretty well accomplished everything he wanted to in life.  That's part of why he's so well adjusted, which is refreshing.  Conversely, Ash still has a chip on her shoulder, so her hopes and dreams are a battle she yet strives for, which gives more for me to play with in writing.  However, that also means that you can have Kaidan move on to other pursuits, which is a different advantage, depending on the story you are trying to tell.

Much of the VS's allure is whether or not they were romanced, IMO, b/c otherwise you lose much of the character development they would otherwise have had.  For myself, one of the more interesting ideas I toyed with was my AU Ash meeting the "canon" Kaidan, and the both of them discussing the various branches their lives took.  I eventually cut it from the final story, for pacing purposes, but it was interesting nonetheless.

It was a given that a lot of LI's character development have romance as its perquisite which is why I hated how it severely limit the narrative since in ME2, most of the characters' development was romance-gated. Much of what I like in Ashley is what I already have in my Colonist/Sole Survivor Shepard and to me they mirror each other. I like that FemShep sees her as a younger sister and was a lot warmer to her than with unromanced Kaidan. But I hated how regressed Ashley become in ME3 and hated her new look and I felt her tragic end on Virmire as a way for her to let go of her guilt over surviving the massacre on Eden Prime. I love that Kaidan still mourned her as well.

I'm supposed to publish the new chapter today but I didn't like the words I've been punching and I've been handwriting chapters out instead. Had my niece's birthday party earlier today but spent most of the week procrastinating and that's really not helping. Ah, the sound of self-imposed deadlines swooshing by.

COOPER : Come on, TARS. . .come on, TARS!

I'm down to the last stretch. The last chapter I guess which would probably be longer than the usual length I usually keep for each chapter. I feel like Cooper, last stretch, come on, come on!

The soundtrack for Interstellar, some pieces of it, especially where a church organ comes in, reminds me of 2001 A Space Odyssey. No Time For Caution is definitely one of those hair raising hyperventilating moments where viewers are caught up with the visuals, the emotions.

And that Dylan Thomas poetry when they left Earth and the music. Feels.

I personally found a lot to like about Ash (not so much Kaidan).  I think I've said before that the tiny snippet of a scene where Ashley wants to tease Liara about asari promiscuity gave me great grounds to play with where Ash is concerned - facetious and playful.  In my fic, once I'd added in the return banter from Shep and Liara herself, their team gelled and they became a close knit group of friends (Girl Squad!)- that just made Ashley's suspicions about ties to Cerberus all the more scathing for Shepard and some extra friction between the 'good guys' for drama.

Good news; I am rolling with millions in SWTOR....

Bad news; I am still procrastinating... reading The Expanse book 2, stuff on theory of war, some PNR, playing ME3 and Minecraft and someone actually wrote that they wanted to read more of my erotica again.... :/ never satisfied are we...? Maybe I should just sell my soul and make money from that.

At least its Chinese New Year.... yeah~~~~holidays!

It's funny how fast the money can accrue from just questing, lol!  Since I've usually been F2P, I generally try to blow all my money on stuff at the Cartel whenever I hit the limit.  Don't feel too bad about the procrastinating, we are all guilty of it, lol!

I've got a new piece in the works. Story is all figured out/outlined; I just need to write it! We're looking at five chapters and I'll post 'em as I go, though the first chapter will be pretty short and the last will be a fluff epilogue and also pretty short.

Protagonist is: ... Morinth!! I killed her on my canon game run but after playing ME3 I decided to resurrect her in my head and rewrite her character-arc -- literally, I did a piece on it. I'll post that up here sometime later, but in a nutshell: she is recruited in ME2 as Morinth (out with the "I can conveniently turn into my mother"-BS) and reforms herself over the course of the events, ultimately becoming an asari-commando and saving both her sisters in the Reaper War.

And again, as this is follows my canon, it will be set in a Synthesis world, which plays a really important role in the plot (gives rise to the conflict).

So anyway, this will be a continuation of her story. And it's gonna be great! I'm sure of this. :)

Sounds like an interesting take on it...especially if recruited outside the context of her mother's sidemission.  Be interesting to see that family dynamic from a different perspective!  Best of luck on the story!

Interesting to consider how one might handle such an addiction and impulse for murder, and reform themselves.  A journey from villain to anti-hero to hero, it sounds like, and a cool way to approach it!  Myself, I dealt with Ardat-Yakshi affliction by using Drell Solipsism as a biological counter to them.  Specifically, I had Kolyat and Falere become an item, much to the chagrin of one of my beta readers, haha!

Hi there,

I have been hoping to read any fan fiction that is working towards Andromeda in some form, but have not been able to see anything in that area. If anyone knows of anything, or is working on something. I would really appreciate the link.

In the meantime, I have been doing some experimenting on the ark idea in a narrative outline.. I will be highly unlikely to publish, I am not a writer and my confidence was shredded when I did try and experiment with ideas.

All i can really say is that it is based around the life of Jonah Ashland and plays out over a period of 60 years. I give him a Prothean Cypher from the Mars Archive as a young man in the 2120's. This enabled him to understand the technology in MArs and gave his company a timeframe to reverse engineer enough understanding that empowered the human expansion wave that started in the 2130's.

I plan to have some form of written narrative of the main events I cover in Ashland's life. I  have a form of outline that maps out where I think the journey could end. I already know that the piece of the puzzle that eluded Ashland for so long was finally uncovered by Shepard in 2183, and that Ashland and his allies had shifted up their efforts significantly as a result of Sovereign's attack. That was when Ashland fully comprehended the full enormity of the message he got decades before.

I do have an ending solution built that I accept at the moment, but I have allowed a couple of alternative scenarios just in case the story goes places I do not expect it to.

I am unlikely to publish what is essentially just me saying good bye to the MW, and moving my head into Andromeda some time in the future. If there are anyone else doing that sort of work, I would really like to check it out.

Many thanks

Not asking you to read. Just addressing your question. :D

I have something like that near the end of my fic (which is ending soon) but it's not a tie to MEA. This is because I threw out the last segment of ME3, the reason I wrote the fic in the first place, and also established changes to some events; Aria and Omega for an example. Some chars in ME3 plus some of the DLCs do not exist in my fic.

The link I mentioned is tenuous. There is an expedition but there are no aliens on on it. No asari, turians, krogans, etc. The reason and  who are the people on the expedition, I won't mention. The destination might not even be Andromeda. The only thing that is the same; expedition to another galaxy. This event is a foreshadowing of what is to come much later, if I intend to continue.

Finally finished my fic. I originally meant to write about something but a review said I was taking a slow trot to the finish line. So I cut and slash down to bare bones and end off. :D

Now I can poke and edit the early chapters. It's hardly going to matter in the long run, the fic will drop off the radar,  forgotten and vanish into the depths. But I'd like to tidy and correct mistakes.

Yup, thanks! I kept the mission, just changed the outcome so that Morinth is recruited as Morinth (not as Samara) and went from there.

Here is that piece: http://archiveofouro...hapters/1719748

And now my latest: http://archiveofouro...apters/14110927

I'm a bit behind schedule -- trying to slay my online class during the Spring Break so I'm mostly done with it when I return -- but it should not take me too long.

Kolyat/Falere is definitely an intriguing ship. I'll have to look that one up through your AO3. =)

Just read that piece!  It pained me to read Samara's death, but I really like the way you altered the history to allow Morinth to grow as a character!  Interesting comparison between the liability of Samara's code, as opposed to Morinth's addiction to seemingly murderous hedonism!

Will have to give the rest of it a shot, but take your time, I well know what it's like to balance projects and life, lol!  If you end up having time, the Falere/Kolyat pairing happens in "Paladins of Typhon," although it's a smaller piece of a much larger story.  Their union specifically occurs here...

Jeez, I never realized how AO3 names chapters...my chapter naming is so screwed for that story, lol!  Well, at least they are in order, so you can go numerically.  Will have to address the actual chapter names at some point...which will be a task for 50-60 freaking chapters, lol!

I'm surprised. Absolutely surprised no one called me out on some of the jumbles. I supposed I did get the points across and I did warn first readers that I was doing a fly-by-seat-of-pants writing, that I'm a greenie at fic writing, so there will be stuff that doesn't sound right or make sense.

I've to admit I couldn't figure out what I was thinking of then when I made the mistakes. I guess it's a case of images in head not translating into words. Straightened out 19 chapters as best I could so far. Hopefully the whole thing wouldn't have gaping holes by the time I'm done.

A 'lore' question, if I may?

Is there any reason why Miranda Lawson couldn't have been unknowingly indoctrinated?  She doesn't encounter any of the Prothean VI's so wouldn't have triggered "Indoctrinated presence detected" but are there any other reasons that would say, no she can't have been indoctrinated because X?

Picked up some of my old stuff, which wasn't too bad with a few tweaks, and I'm trying to get it moving again.

Hard to say but I think it's unlikely she would be in close proximity to reaper devices. Would TIM have risked her given her genetic makeup is unique?

P.S. I found this recently. I like this one, it has my fav ships in it from B5 and ME. :D  As the ships get bigger and bigger, my eyes went wider. My eyes nearly popped when I saw that a Reaper measures 2000m. And finally, I know the length of the Normandy.
