There's generally not a lot of info on the Blitz itself, so it's possible that maybe Shepard had been on Elysium along with other recruits to blow off steam. Or maybe, s/he wasn't in the ground forces when it occured. The codex does also mention that Alliance ships were fighting off the batarian ones above Elysium, so maybe Shepard had been one of those ships instead, like Pressley, if s/he is not a War Hero.
Or simply Bioware writers were too lazy to come up with three different dialogs.
Given some of the other crap in ME3, I'd say that would be the answer.
No, I think all Shepards played a part in the Blitz. Having played through ME 3 three times with three different characters, I can say that if the scene you're talking about is the one I'm thinking of, Joker says something about Shepard being under more stress than during the Blitz, and then adds a line that varies depending on your service history, whether it be referencing Elysium, Akuze or Torfan.
As for music, yes, I queue up my entire playlist of MP3s and just let it play. Mostly classic rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath/Ozzy Ozbourne, Aerosmith, AC-DC, Bob Dylan, etc.), and 80's hair bands (Poison, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Ratt, etc.) some stuff that's a little less old (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Live, REM, etc... can I just note that I'm suddenly feeling old here, since I was going to call this "newer" stuff and it's all from the late 80's and the 90's...

), plus a few oddballs in my collection such as anime music from Bubblegum Crisis or Key the Metal Idol, or instrumental stuff such as the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack.
I just let my whole library play what it wants. Distraction is less of a problem to me than most people though. Because I am very used to blocking out both of my daughter's music such as Beyonce and Justin Bieber and whatnot (not a fan, no offense to those who are), and the techno/dance stuff, whatever you'd call it, from my daughter's Dance Central game.
