Okay. I suddenly find myself sitting here in awe of your work, and while there are many writers out there who make me feel like a bumbling fiction novice, you are one of the handful that outshine any talent I could ever hope to have to such an extent that I almost feel silly for even THINKING about posting a story to the same realm of literary art.
You have managed to pull such an emotional response from me, and apparently from many others, and I think it's a wonderful piece you've put together here. If I ever manage to evoke one-tenth of the emotion from my readers as you have from me just now... I'd consider it a rousing success.
Well done. Perhaps that might seem like trivial praise, but it's not something I say often.
Well done.
@Icyflare, since Drussius wants to play, too - good guess. Yeah, I'm currently on emergency surgery residency
Edit: omg this colour thing... <_<

Geez. I just love the way my computer handles sites with logins. I signed up for FF.net a few days ago. I log in, I read a one-shot, decide to post a review that is full of praise, and for some reason when I hit submit it logs me out and registers my review as coming from "Guest".
But Noxi... Well done.
Haha, yeah, that happens a lot, apparently. :\\ Happens all the time when I go to view fics. I've made a habit of checking the top right hand corner before I start reading, and even then, it's kind of a gamble. Perhaps I'll end my reviews with my username...as insurance...
But yeah, that's one of the annoying quirks that's popped up over the past month. The first month I was on FFnet, I logged in...once? Twice? It kept my login for weeks. Since around mid June it's been wonky. I log out nearly once a day, which is kind of weird. I review a lot, so...I'm paranoid of leaving guest reviews. Not that theyr're bad or worse, but sometimes I have questions, and I value the discussions via PMs I have with authors over their works
Honestly, Jen's writing is fantastic. When/if you have time, Nova et Vetera's a pretty wonderful trek.

Edit: I added Nova et Vetera and Flotsam, as well as a few others, to my list of alerts over there now that I have an account. I look forward to getting into all of them.

That's really strange. I've heard some phone browsers lose login info quickly, so if you're using a phone, that could be the cause. Adblocker and other such programs on your browser may be preventing the login info from sticking? Check to see if your browser is saving any cookies. Also, try allowing full exceptions for BSN and FFnet(both safe websites) and see if that helps? I liked browsers before when there were a lot more settings readily available to alter.Drussius wrote...
FF.net isn't the only place that has done this login thing to me. It happens here too. And for some reason when it logs me out, it does it like nine times in a row. Login, click link to see something, logged out. Log back in, click link again, logged out. Log back in, etc... Gets irritating!

Aaaaahhh thank you both, your really are too generous with your praise. I'm blushing furiously now - going to have a cold shower and try to pack my bag for vacation in the hour I have before the cab comes!
Enjoy your vacation! And be sure to pack a laptop or something so you can grace us with more stories. There are no vacations for writers I read stories from. Just ask lill

For FF.net, I have the account settings page bookmarked. That way, if it's logged you out, it always asks for a login before you can do anything else.
Also. Plus, I made a special gmail account for FFN, so I can just use the oauth from there, making it a one-click operation.

In other news, has anyone had a chance to think about the collaboration I suggested a few pages back (something like 2 weeks ago)? I had a few people express interest, but I've not heard much more since. I'd really love to see some new ways of looking at things in this continuity.

Collaboration? I'm interested in knowing more about this.
Basically for the past 18 months or so I've been establishing my own version of ME3's events, both as a prediction of what may have happened (some details were hauntingly accurate, truth be told, although others were sadly waaaay off) and as a way to put my own unique spin on things. I currently use this continuity for all fics I write (such as the one I'm doing now). however, my ultimate goal is to make something that people feel that they can participate freely in. I do this to an extent by shaping my fic entirely around Reader votes, which decide all of the big decisions in the plot (which so far have included curing the Genophage, curing Kepral's Syndrome, Killing admiral Xen, Destroying or sparing Omega and killing or sparing the Illusive Man).
However, I want to expand the involvement of others in this continuity. to this end, i was hoping that other author's may feel comfortable contributing small one-shots or short narratives of their own to pad out the story by telling readers about what happens around the main plot. I wanted to test the water by inviting people to write pieces that pad out one in-story event at first: The final Battle for Tuchanka or The Battle of the Draktarra Plains. This is a battle that features Krogan in battlemechs, indoctrinated Yahg and the All-Thresher (like I said, some haunting similarities to what we got in the end). However, as I'm focused on advancing the main plot, I was only able to tell the story of the battle from the viewpoint of Shepard and the team he took with him (Thane, Mordin, Grunt, a new character called Delexia, the Turian pirate, and another one called Jorall, the Krogan Warlord).
What I'd hoped for ultimately was a collection of fics detailing various things. I detailed a small snippet about what the rest of the squad was doing during the start of the battle, but there's a lot of room for expansion. Like, maybe you wanted to tell the story of what Zaeed got up to during this battle, or you wanted to write about what the Revenant did, or maybe you even want to write about a squad of entirely OC Krogan and what they did. As long as the central plot isn't changed in any way, you can write what you want.
If you're interested and need more info, let me know!

I'd really appreciate some feedback on this one. I've written it in Second Person Perspective, and I've tried to do something clever with that. Let me know what you think!

*snip* So... distraction disguised as a question. How do you guys come up with names for your Shepard/OCs in your stories? Do they have some sort of meaning behind them or were you just making it up on the fly?
Most of the time, I just name my Shepards something that I like. Such as Rachel, Sara/Serra or Kate. Rarely do I attach meanings to my names as far as Mass Effect goes simply because it takes me forever to search through name databases to find something that fits whatever character I'm trying to portray and I really didn't want to bother with that in this fandom. About the only thing I did with naming my Earthborn Shepard was switching Kate to Kat. Same name as a basis, but the nickname changed because I don't think orphans are too concerned about giving out traditional nicknames to people. Especially if they're in a gang.

Miranda has used 'Yvonne Stryker' as an alias (and a more obscure one in 'Freya'), has an Alliance agent on her tail who goes by the name of 'John' and I nearly named a salarian 'Devn' but instead took a syllable out of the actor's name to make 'Ryn'.
Hi, I am a dork.

Personally, I like to name my Shepards and I like it when other people name theirs. I like to read about how they think the Shepard character should be like. It's very fascinating for me to see how different my Shepard can be from others. So, I'm not really looking to put my Shepard in place of any author's when reading a story. Maybe that's because I'm writing my own, or something else, but I tend to be a tad disappointed when authors take the general, everyman Shepard route.

Do any of you feel nerdy at the thought of someone looking at the dictionary (if that's even possible) of your Word processor and seeing that you've taught it works like krogan, quarians, asari, T'Soni and all kinds of other terms unique to Mass Effect? This thought just came to me as I'm typing Chapter 2 for my fic and it made me laugh....
Ha! I like it more that my iPad (where I sometimes use Pages on the fly to write things) has learned turian, krogan, asari, Liara, Tali, datapad, Omni-tool and a few others. It's funnier when it autocorrects something ELSE I'm writing with some Mass Effect jargon, so my texts and emails are sometimes nerd fails.
Tali was the first hurdle, since I named my dog Tali
